Sorry but he cannot recover from this disease. It is called A.L.S there's no cure. The band has stopped allready. They were playing together 60 years allready. Then sad news came. They had to stop before they wanted to stop. No Earring without George. '
I Started listening to Golden Earring when I Was in Germany in the Us Army about 1975. We used to play the Moontan Album alot and Especially The Vanilla Queen, and get High as a Kite, long time ago, now here it is 2023 still rocking out to the Earring, Amazing Band, Awesome, definitely Underated, if bands now days could rock like these guys.
Well I've always said it & I'll say it again George Kooymans is an amazing guitarist & has never really gotten the recognition that he deserves over the years...
George sure is a good guitarist and made sound of the Earring over the years, but with superb guitarist Eelco Gelling the Earring was realy a top band. The never reached that level again.
Phenomenal performance here. This is interesting because it’s obviously before they added Eelco Gelling, for the dual guitar attack. GE’s live album from 1977 is sooooo terrifyingly great.
I think I remember the red purple jacket of Barry's,and the sax with frizzy hair, I was 39,and terrified of prog, rock, but the skill and genius etched a respect that we were gifted those moments.
I know Golden Earring now for 47 years, but I never heard the song Lucky number before and I have never seen Barry playing sax on stage. Never too old to learn something new!
Yoo Nick, the song is on the flip-side of (Kill Me)Ce Soir. And frankly: Lucky Number should also have been released as (hit)single that time. On cd you’ll find on their album The Devil Made Us Do It (4 cd’s). Enjoy.
@@440centerline Hah ! I was at that show, too. IIRC, the place was a little over half full. It was a great show at one of my favorite venues here in Cleveburg. Nice light show to go with the tunes.
Pure Dutch showmanship here, my favorite GE elpee is Switch, Moontan was a chartburner still in '74, so glad to see such a peak performance in a SF venue, an i would've love to have been there, i was three years from CDL.. i did see the CUT tour in SF '84
I dunno. For me, Naked Truth Live was pretty darn close to perfection.. but STILL shows how underrated this band is. Almost tragic Edit: ruclips.net/video/yr4P0Be-Grc/видео.html
Saw Golden Earring twice first time in Frankfurt even recorded it still have the tape this show was the same and in Long beach California. They opened for rush but I went there to see Golden Earring what a good band think I'll play my tape it came out good for a small recorder
One of the greatest bands with only 2 major hits , to me their prog stuff holds it's own and is very well crafted ! no wonder :The Who's" management signed these guys to Track records .. excellent musicianship !
this was the time that dutch guitarist like eelco gelling, jan akkerman, george kooijmans and dirk vanderhorst where the world top of guitarist our country never produced so much and so good guitar players this is a great concert at the homeground of grateful dead jefferson airplane and santana
I never expected to be able to relive this set. Dan Johnson and I went mostly to see Earthquake who was also on the bill. Had no idea Golden Earring's set lasted 1 3/4 hours. Thank you, band, for the great live set and thank you to Duke Albert for posting.
@@dukealbert7017 The song She Flies On Strange Wings is a story about Erika from the anime Tosho(General) Daimos(aka Starbirds) and June from the anime Gatchaman(aka Battle Of The Planets). After all, they are female anime characters that had wings or bird outfit. It is also part of the anime Robot Romance Trilogy and the love story between Richard and Erika in the Tosho Daimos anime. I didn't know and I am surprised that the members of Golden Earring are such big anime fans. Those Japtoons must be very popular in The Netherlands.
This is a truly amazing concert, there is never a dull moment, full of energy right from the start until the end. Fantastic interplay between all the bandmembers. I really love how Barry not tries to play the macho, he just enjoys himself like any of the others and it really shows. Very sad we will never see and hear them play again as a full band. We will all keep on listening to those amazing songs they recorded over all those years.
I'm very happy that someone was able to keep this memorable show up.... because this is indeed a classic Golden Earring show & it showcases this band at the peak of their career....
the awesome radar love at 1:06:00 - too bad blue öyster cult never did their own version of it, would be interesting what three guitars would do to this...but, then you do get a cesar zuijderwijk drum solo a little later on in the mix...not to be missed! one of the unsung masters.
No joke: when Keith Moon died, Cesar was the first to get the call to replace Moon, since Golden Earring and The Who had toured together multiple times and they were good friends and label mates. Cesar declined the offer since it involved moving to London permanently.
RastaSaiyaman thanks, that doesn`t surprise me one bit! cesar would have made at least as good a replacement for moonie as kenny jones... ;-) not surprised that cesar opted out though - as golden earring are as tight a team as the who ever were...the longest existing rock band in original formation: would that be about right?
RastaSaiyaman when the news came in that moon was dead, I remember thinking: "that`s it right there, they should call it quits". but hey, who am I, right?...of course the who carried on and each made themselves a few million quid before effectively breaking up in early `82.
don key shot I was lucky enough to see the Who with Keith Moon in '76 -Cesar was exactly right- I cherish THAT memory...but on the OTHER hand, ....wow....Cesar was and IS SO freaking good....AND SO under-rated...I love 'em both-
AWESOME......is the word for this, I have for no reason whatsoever not ever seen any of this band playing live on film and I now am gutted I been missing out on a lot of years of happy listening I would bet. Magic stuff, each member playing an integral part in it, musically brilliant for me.
since 1973 after watching them on The Old Grey Whistle Test I went to see Golden Earring live at Glasgow Apollo support was Alquin I was hooked and been a fan even since I have managed to see the band a few times the second time they came to Glasgow they had an unknown band support them called Lynyrd Skynyrd still as fresh today unfortunately they dont play anymore but left us with the 50th collection .
I bought the Moontan album, and I still think it was one of the best albums of the 70s. It seemed like only months later and Wham. They released the Switch album. Now you have the Moontan album compatible with the Switch album. They are both so good and hot. Which one is better? I still don't know which is a good place for the both of them. It was the best of times, the late 60s and 70s for rock. An explosion of rock albums were made than. We of that time and that generation were truly blessed. Dave in Sierra Vista AZ
This video is amazing - has always been one of my very favorite bands, and I have never been fortunate enough to experience one of their concerts - maybe I need to go to the Netherlands! Thank you for this video!
Saw them perform in 1976 Cleveland Ohio at the Allen Theater- superb concert. I was blown away I worked at the Cleveland Agora and was witness to many bands but Golden Earring was over and above

That guitar riff on "Rodeo" is a masterpiece; I never seem to play it right! It's the syncopation with the drums that is so hard; it's slightly "off" somehow?
What a powerful performance by a band at its peak!!! Too bad I never saw them live and never will. Must have been a wonderful time when Aerosmith or Queen opened fo GE during tours, hard to believe it considering the fact how criminally underrated GE is these days!!!
My friend Frank and I were at this concert and right in the front. I can see our heads boppin'. I come back to watch this time and time again just to reminisce. When the drummer ejected at the end of Radar Love we thought it was kinda cool but kinda cheap and corny at the same time. good times.
Gorge kooymans is perhaps the most underrated guitar player , I wish him a fully recovery
Sorry but he cannot recover from this disease. It is called A.L.S there's no cure.

@@ronaldbrands7318this is really sad.

Golden Earring were a rare breed who actually kept their vow to retire if one of them couldn’t continue. Gotta have mad respect for that alone

The best years of the Earring .....the 70''s !!!
The Best years of the history of rock n' roll!!!!
Maybe the 60s
Definitely the 80s
Their last song..
Unfortunately the Earring have ceased as a Band, due to George Kooymans ill health. Best wishes to all the Guys and their Families. 🎸🎶💓
Sad but it happens to all of us. Enjoy the memories until they too fade away!
Mighty good drummer and bass player too! Complimenti!
Wat een optreden! GE in topvorm.
Geweldige solo van George op Rodeo.
De rest ook geweldig.
Vreselijk einde van een geniale band.

the guitar solo on Switch - wow
Yes indeed... George Kooymans is an amazing guitarist... to bad he hardly ever gets mentioned...
Nos anos 70,ví Golden Earring no Sabado Som e fui logo comprar o disco Moontan e Switch! Depois saiu o To the Hilt!
Para mim,a fase progressiva dos 70 é o auge dessa banda.
A coletânea the greatest rock sensation também é excelente.
The psychedelic polydor years também.
