I love how you guys try to analyze what the plan is based on what resource he's going to. As a low ELO player, let me tell you...sometimes there is no plan. We go to resources for no reason and no plan behind it.
You hit the nail on the head. More often than not I'm just building a gold mining camp in late dark age or early Feudal age because I know I'll eventually need gold for various units/upgrades.
Meanwhile T90/Dave will be over-analyzing this asking "Oh, he might be getting on gold early to fast castle for a knight rush"
Nah bruh...I don't know what I'm doing. I know I just eventually need gold.

That's funny, but if a person resigns their name gets crossed out so you can tell who did it.

First game I've ever seen where the loser's base wasn't even touched, while the victor's had been decimated multiple times.
not to mention how bad the winner was about making villagers in the midgame

There are two kinds of Low ELO player.
The kind that surrenders as soon as they see an enemy army and the kind that doesn't surrender when they have no villagers, no TCs, a stable, a market, and are floating 56000 wood.
omg I am an 850 player and so many times i had to kill a person three times. Because they keep remaking their bases.

Makes me mad, I understand sticking it out as I have gotten wins from the clutches of defeat. But, that was because I had an economy and was holding. But, when a player has 1 tc, few villagers vs a fully imped mayan army, just quit. Honestly really annoying.

@@waleuska I'm more of a never give up type of person. Why? Because 1 time out of 50 the enemy will disconnect. That's +2% winrate.
I don't advocate cheesing though, if you're down to 1 archer and you're green don't hide behind a tree or some stupid crap like that.
That being said, so many games would be so much shorter if people just patrolled instead of simply moving.
Knowing that players like this are out there makes the game seem so much more approachable. I could relearn how to fast castle and some basic build orders and hover at like 1200, or I could just hop back into the game and play for fun and compete against my low elo brothers and sister at 800.
Team games and ffa are a happy in between mode. Starting inefficiencies are a little less impactful and forgiving in team games/ffa compared to 1v1
From what t90 and others have said there's been a bit of a improvement through the upper low-elo range and a fast castle and other basic builds will probably keep a player between 1000-1100 depending on other skills. I think 1200 would probably be the point a naked-fc starts getting punished now.

I feel so bad for blue. He constantly runs rings around his opponent, has way more eco for a long time and never gets attacked, yet he manages to throw simply by forgetting to make vils. The struggle is real.
He had villagers, they were just busy rushing head first into castles and TCs 11
It was a combination of him not focusing on his economy, probably wasting resources at the market to buy stone for castles, and him refusing to make much siege.
@@greywolf7577 Yep the town bell for like 10 minutes basically disintegrated his chances.
Throwing rams to the castle, throwing vills to the enemy army, and have 0 on woods for the last 20 mins, something tells me blue is a decent attacker but a horrible planner
He builds the mill before lumber camp because chopping stragglers is more efficient than gathering berries without a mill. actually better than vipa

I've never played AoE2, I don't play RTS games and yet this was absolutely riveting. You guys are great at real time commentary.
It's a real skill to be able to commentate something in a way that it's entertaining regardless of the viewer's knowledge of the game

@@Frank_Lee_Terrible Sounds pretty straightforward to me. Sometimes great things overstay their welcome and become less interesting over time, but these low ELO games he's *still* not getting tired of them.

He probably made 20 rams to take out a single castle but sent them all in 1 and maybe 2 at a time. He would send in a single ram by itself and forget about it as if it would raze the entire town. He delayed his imp time by at least 15 minutes just because the cost of the rams when he should have gone imp and got a treb
On the small chance that this will be read by T90:
It might be an interesting idea to coach one of the previous low elo legends who really ranks at the lower end (~200 ELO) in a live game against a better player (~1k), for instance by first walking the player through the dark age build and then walking them through strategies that come to mind. I'd love to see if it's possible to beat a much better player purely with a good strategy even if it is not well-executed. I liked how T90 started off LEL by focusing on things upon which the players could improve, and that way that aspect might come into play a bit more.
He would have to train them outside of a game. There is so much idle time from the person listening to you coach. They would quickly get behind, get rushed, and it would be frustrating for them in the end most likely.
Reminds me of the "Viper plays with his cousin" series, where Viper first told the cousin how to play, then the cousin told Viper what to do.
200 to 1k is such a huge difference you'd have to keep the numbers within like 200 ELO just to make sure they dont get turbo trounced even with help.
nejd there's just so much t90 would have to explain in such a short amount of time, and then that player would have to comprehend all of that while trying to follow a build order

16:05 to be fair, a crossbowman would not benefit from a thumb ring. However, a civilization that never devolved crossbowmen would benefit a ton from thumb rings.

I played AoE2 when it first came out years ago. i just bought a gaming PC and am getting back into it. this is warming my heart

Also couple archers would have done a lot for blue... And most important patrol, move/attack use i guess

Just play enough games until your ELO gets to where it should be. Then you roughly win half your games which is fine. I actually dont mind losing at Aoe2, coming from Wc3 where id get cheesed. Somehow its less angering in this game

Getting peon rushed never gets old right? WC3/SC2 have really big rushing issues that make them basically unplayable at the casual level. Someone will look up a rush build order and then either kill you in 5 mins or resign.

T90 you are my favorite caster, but I super enjoy when you cast with Dave too. It is like having you but PLUS, because Dave makes the cast fun in a different way. I don't think I'd enjoy you + Dave on every cast, that might be too much, but please do bring him more often! Thanks!

Having Dave on for Low Elo games definitely increases the entertainment value. Balances out T90 trying to be nice with his constructive criticism
Two things I learned from this match: If you only have 30 APM, don't use it on fancy micro. And if you remember to look at your economy at least once a minute, you will win on this ELO.
Dave!!! I like when Dave and T90 cast together. Always great fun. I will never forget Dave's cheese related pun from a couple of years ago, commenting on a player's bad move: "That's not gouda."
Love it when a game ends and you don't know who quit. Red hadn't even scouted his base!
I am not good at AOE2 and have almost exclusively played against the AI, but I gotta say watching this made me feel better about my game XD
Such an entertaining game, especially with Dave coasting. To top it off a perfect 10000 score for red at the end was too satisfying

24:00 - I suppose, ungarrisoned units had a waypoint and those petards couldn't go through the trees near the castle so they decided to make a big hook around the forest.

I believe Blue-Tengri is referring to Gengis Khan; Tengri was their indigenous faith, and he was born in a "blue city". The great Khan attributed his success to the nature spirits of Tengri shamanism. Sounds badass

1. You can build a building with >1 villager (e.g. Castles)
2. Get blacksmith upgrades

I'm noticing that most players don't consider Bulgarian Cavalry Archers.
While they lack the final armor upgrade or any civ bonuses, they still have bracer, heavy cav archer, Parthian and all that good stuff.
I imagine they would complement Konniks/Cavaliers decently well, and surprise a few enemy players.

maybe it's just me but I felt like red had control over this game pretty much the entire time. he held for an hour with almost no significant losses, and then made one push that decimated blue's eco. blue then went yolo and red held it until the game ended

Dang. I just got age of empires 2 definititive edition 2 or 3 days ago because of this channel. And after getting killed by the moderate ai a few times I can at least say that there are others like me lol

Honestly so much better than high ELO. They play what they think is cool, high ELO guys just play by numbers and the meta

And completely useless unless he wants to go into a tower rush, send forward vills to steal them or maybe wall off his opponent's resources in dark/feudal.
I could probably get on this, tbh. But to be fair, I never played AoE II. AoE III, but not AoE II, and not multiplayer.

Had a game recently where without even going inside their walls after they defensive castled, the opponent went from 60 vils all working to 50 vills idle, not in TCs, just idle.
15:28 and 15:55 I'm no professional but still, going archers with Spanish and Bulgarians IS NOT a mistake as you can still dish out some damage early game. After all, they are your range-damage dealers before you can transition to better units such as Conquistadors. But again, just my humble opinion
In defence of straggler tree cutters: its bad game design.
Lets look at it like we just jumped into the game without knowing anything. First off, You need wood, these are the nearest trees. The devs probably put them there to be chopped first. Second reason is that while building a lumber camp has a clear cost, walk time doesnt, so you might be inclined to think its basically free wood.
Interesting perspective, but the closest straggler should be chopped at least? If you build a lumbercamp too early, aren't you wasting villager creation time?
It's so crazy, watching this video made me realize how fantastic I am at the economy side of things and how abysmally inept I am at basically everything else.

I'm definitely not the greatest Age of Empires player so I would be considered a noob. I like watching these videos though because they are fun to watch.

I have a decent 20min fast castle build (18-20mins) using build orders, hot keys, everything. I'm 624ELO. I lost 2 games just while this was playing.
650 ELO player here.
I find FC gets punished A LOT! People are in feudal by 12 minutes and spamming archers and scouts by 15. If you don't wall and don't build counters in feudal I think it's pretty much certain on open maps that you'll get a scout or Archer rush at this ELO.
@@petersmythe6462 I usually do wall though but even when I do manage to do that before the scouts get in (or wall them in and take them out with spears), then the boom I can do inside is never enough to break out.
At this is my point. At this ELO early aggression is much more profitable than good (general) build orders.
