3 years before the Swede, Paul-Henri Mathieu almost pulled a Soderling by hitting insanely hard on both sides going for small targets way more that against any other player. And also playing the short angles extremely well (something Djokovic did to finally beat Nadal in '21) Almost worked...

@Bolly Classics Oh please. He played like crap in 2020 final. And yes I know about his foot problems. The thing is you guys are just out of your mind with excuses. Rafa lost just one set on his way to that semi final and handed 3 bagels. You guys are just bitter and try to downgrade Djokovic as usual. Good thing most people laugh at you. Rafa himseld did not use injury as an excuse. He gave praise to Novak and you should take example out of him rather than being losers.

    • @theobecquet8477

Everybody knows that Novak is/was always the biggest threat against Rafa on clay, but everybody should also aknowledge the fact that Novak's tactics wouldn't have worked against THIS Rafa. Yes, he's improved his serve, offensive game and variety but Those defensive gets and passing shots that he used to do until 2012/2013, he's not able to do It anymore on a regular basis. Their H2H at Roland Garros is 7/2 for a reason, and even in the 2020 final Rafa was vulnerable but Novak played like shit. If Novak played at his peak in those 2020/2021 matches he would've destroyed Rafa.

    • @truthseekertitan3986

@@theobecquet8477 Wrong. Rafa's level was considerably wayyy higher in 2020 RG final match because he thought himself to be the underdog. Everything was against him.. the unusual time of RG due to Covid, the chilled weather, the new heavy balls and the lack of match play as there was no clay swing last year.. all these things made Djokovic favourite and Rafa underdog and that's what triggered Rafa's level. He destroyed Djokovic to bits. Djokovic and his camp thought their boy is gonna destroy Rafa bcoz of these factors playing into their hands and as a result Djokovic got soft and took his win for granted. This year's exact opposite. Rafa was the favourite and Djokovic the underdog (in both of their own minds). Djokovic got focused and Rafa got somewhat slacked. And obviously during the third set, Rafa got injured midmatch, hence so many UE from neutral baseline positions. None of those UE from similar positions occurred in '20 RG final. Rafa wasn't even 80% of physical and mental level of RG '20 final. It's the truth.

This highlight is biased upon Paul, always focus on good points of Paul. Even he was a loser.
About 2021 FO semi, besides foot injury, condition was not quite favored to Nadal because as Djoc’s coach Goran previously
Mentioned that he wanted to see the match at semi rather than final. There is obvious reason why he mentioned like that.
First, court surface condition, if sun shines, then hard clay gives more bounce which is much more favor to nadal. And
Night session which semi would bring heavy thick moisture absorbing high topspin ball bounce which Nadal much complained
after Semi final. The second reason, obviously mental sphere which data proves. The most close match at the FO between two
Players was in 2013 semi match which was decided by a blink of eyes. Other than that always FO final or other was one side
Story except match in 2015 (due to injury for Nadal ).
