    In May of this year(2018), I bought a 2017 Kawasaki Vulcan 650S. It was brand new with 2 miles. The motorcycle was an overstock of last years model. That said, Im 6'1, 185 lbs and I can assure you the suspension on the Vulcan S is perfectly fine on bad roads. There is a small tool in the tool bag under the seat that allows you, in literally 2 seconds, to adjust the suspension and select between 1 of the 8 different settings. The settings range from: 1 = perfect road conditions to 8 = Extremely rough road conditions. There are some nasty bumps on the expressway that would literally pop me up off the seat a "1/2 inch on the lowest setting. After adjusting to setting 3, I barely notice the same bump and it feels like riding over one of those cables that track how many cars pass through point x that the Highway Dept lays across a lane from time to time. Also, the suspension adjustment location is always accessible and requires no labor/wrenching/or uncovering to get at. For Highways and long distance rides? This was my first bike and after the engine break-in period, I took a solo road trip over 1,000 miles from Western, NY to Flat Rock NC. The posted Speed Limit for extended duration's down I-86 was 70 MPH and generally speaking, most vehicles were doing 80 - 85 and I had zero problem maintaining speed, control, or comfort. Disregard the comments on the "odd shape" of the handle bars because you absolutely do not notice it. Additionally, the only piece that I would reccomend for a long trip on that bike is a $10 or less plastic Cruise Assist that grips the throttle with no permanent mounting, any assembly steps, or dis-assembly steps when you want it off. You can also with 1 finger spin the assist out of the way if you dont want to use it or if youre changing from highway to city riding and feel like its in the way normally. I find that its not an issue while changing from stop-n-go to highway but its an option none-the-less. This is the exact item I use: www.ebay.com/itm/Crampbuster-Motorcycle-Throttle-Cruise-Assist-Rocker-CB3-/13051386849

      Follow up on exhaust decibel because I noticed it in a few comments. I'm up late at night quite often and I live in an apartment complex. I've asked 6 neighbors if the noise from ignition, leaving, or arrival is too loud at night/day. These people have bedroom and living room windows 20 ft - 150 ft (1st through 3rd floors) from where I park and they all said that they never hear it unless there is absolutely no sound in the apartment and the windows are wide open. Even then, its barely audible and a small box fan drowns the sound completely.
      On the road at 4k RPM's or less, the bike is as quiet as any car. Its loud-ish when you open it up or if holding at 90+ but, even then... The speakers I have mounted can play music crystal clear while wearing a full helmet with locked visor. There are many other sport-cruisers that are significantly louder. You don't buy this bike to be heard coming down the road. You buy it because it's adjustable for anyone short/tall (ergo-fit parts), inexpensive, physically comfortable, handles well, looks alright, and is great for a commuter, day, mid-range to long-range trips.
      The single complaint I have on this bike is that the Maximum top speed is 114 MPH (+/- 5 MPH) after 110 it barely creeps out each 1 mph after. Literally every 7 seconds you gain that 1 mph. I don't intend to drive that fast so its really not a problem for me. However, the engine is supposed to be the same as the Ninja 650 and I cannot see that even with the slightly higher base weight of the Vulcan. Whether its gearing or not, I don't know. What I do know is that you absolutely cannot rip a power-wheelie in any gear, so gearing would affect torque/acceleration at the cost of top-speed right? The gearing argument seems a bit off to me unless I've mistaken something with how works or whats actually meant when people say that. Which is entirely possible. Anyways hope that helps.
      Accessories so far:
      - I've mounted a Blue Tooth sound system on the handle bars, 2 boss speakers with a 600 watt amp under the seat. ($79.99) Amazon
      - Handle Bar Mount Cell Phone Holder ($19.99) DICKS
      - 3.1 Amp Dual USB Quick Charge SAE Adapter with an ON/OFF Switch ($6.99) - Amazon
      - Cruise Assist ($8.99) Amazon
      - Leather Saddle Bags - ($136) Dealership *Buy Lockable Metal/Plastic/Fiberglass Bags that come WITH the Mounts*
      The Key with the bags is that most leather ones use plastic clips to hold the bags closed which work fine but, they don't lock. So if you're on a road trip or any quick errand run for that matter and you stop to; eat, go shopping at multiple stores, or do anything for that matter where you don't have the bike in constant visual contact, you risk have the bags raided or unzipped off the bike (which takes a whole 3 seconds or less to do). I use a single zip-tie on each bag which only slightly slows down a potential thief and when I park for the day, the bags come off and are hauled inside. Its really a pain in the ass.

    I spent three years comparing the Vulcan S and the Street 750. I made my decision because of one very arrogant and rude answer from a tech at the HD dealership. The Vulcan S won out because it is simply more bike for the money and it leaves the Harley in the dust on many fronts. Harley Davidson is dying for a reason. Shitty customer service is one of them.

    Excellent review. I had difficulty understanding certain English a couple of times though but understood most of the time. You answered about every question I had about the comparison. I was surprised that the Harley was lighter and less quick but more fuel efficient and less expensive!!! I would have guess the opposite on all counts. This review was fascinating because of that. Also that Harley’s suspension was better in the real world. The looks of the Harley are without question better and more “cruiserish”. My friend just bought the Vulcan s last week without even giving the Harley street 750 a chance. The Harley’s are more expensive here in the states but most people would simply choose which ever one is better as long as prices aren’t much higher.
    Anyways fantastic review.

    Harley sucks, please be honest guys. Harley is just over hyped piece of shit with bad engineering and high cost of maintainence. Kawasaki may not be "fun" to ride as a cruiser, but in the long run that is the bike that will last.

    ......ONE MORE THING IS THAT HD MAKES IT PEEK TORQUE AT VERY LOW REVS AS COMPARED TO THE KAWASAKI, AND THAT RESULTS IN VERY GOOD PULL AT LOW REVS N ALSO THERE IS LESSER GEAR SHIFTING IN LOW SPEEDS AND NOT TO FORGET THE BURBLING SOUND OF A V Twin.

    • @namepassword2106
      @namepassword2106 5 лет назад
