I'm skeptical that anyone will see any actual savings. My county dropped taxes one year and raised the property value up so that we ended up paying more while they touted how great they were for "lowering" our taxes. I expect that's what will happen if this does get signed into law.
Yeah it’s going to just stay the same way it was before. This is BS
Corruption at it best! Someone is getting a huge kick back.
Lets see what actually happens.
States are not in the business of saving you tax money. Be assured, either sales or income tax will increase, or the value of your house will magically double.
Skeptical. My county dropped in one area and the school taxes increased. With me being 100% disabled, I still struggle to pay them annually.
They can lower the rates all day long. the problem is not so much the rates, but moreover, it's the appraisals. Hey Taxpayer, we're gonna save you $1300 in property tax (fine print: based on todays appraisals). Then they will just increase the appraisal values and you'll STILL pay the same amount. Do you REALLY believe that they will cut their own revenue? Especially a tax that you CAN'T control yourself. Property tax is a RENT we must pay to a landlord we did not chose. If we must pay someone else in order to OWN property, then we don't really own it. And that's not FREEDOM. Taxation in all forms is THEFT. Hey Texas, eliminate the property tax and see what happens. Rents go down. That's a biggy. I have one rental property and the taxes are MORE than the rent. It's frankly criminal.
Raise the sale tax and eliminate property tax completely, then we would actually OWN our property outright- property that we worked extremely hard for. I hate hate hate that the government can take your house if you don’t pay. Its wrong!😠
Technically it’s whoever pulled the loan from the bank to cover you until you pay it off. Not the govt. It’s usually loans straight from banks. They own most people’s houses until payed off
@@bulldawg71199 only for those currently borrowing. For those that paid it off, bought in cash, or built by hand they must pay the state rent for property they own. Else cops will come with guns to punish them. If that man refuses to be punished those cops will do nothing less that put a bullet in his brain.
How about we lower both and stop spending what we steal
So pass along your entire tax bill to renters? That's pretty unfair.
Seniors age 70+ shouldn’t have to pay my property taxes, they shouldn’t be at risk for losing their home to the govt. Most of those folks are just getting by on whatever little SS they can get. Let them focus on whatever health they have left.
They'll squeeze Seniors until they drain them Out of their Retirement or Savings !!!!!!!!!!!!
70+ is the most wealthy demographic. Do you want to steal from your poorer and younger children and grandchildren to pay for everything?
It’s still crazy that you pay taxes the rest of your life on something you 100% own.
More or less a scam. I moved to Germany, bought a house in 2019 now the house is worth well over 400k, property tax is about €40 a year.
Home prices have artificially raised so much that this is Not Nearly Enough .....
It's ridiculous you move to a community with mo children, but have to pay school taxes
So what about the other part being Appraisals. They are sure to increase as most school districts will not take that much of a cut so I would imaging Counties across the state will just increase the appraised value of your home. I hope I am wrong.
Why can't they simply just lower the tax rate? The tax rate in the austin area is about 2%, why not make it no more than 1%. My parents used to pay 0.80% in Louisiana (which is the highest property tax in the state) and it still was easily afforable. I think property taxes should be capped to no more than 1% of the property value. For me, its fair.
LA has state income tax, you want that over here too?
@@CommoditiesTrader No. But the amount of income tax one pays is under one's personal control. Not so for the Property tax. So the INCOME TAX, despite also being theft, is at least a fairer way to tax people. In Texas, I chose the Income Tax. Get rid of property tax. I actually chose to get rid of both, but we can dream right?
Try Living in Hutto, TX property taxes here is like 2.3%
The math aint mathin, how is the person that owns a $1million dollar home save 5x more than the person whos home is worth 3x less at $330k. That's more savings the more your property or PROPERTIES are worth. Seems like these politicians and there business buddies are going to get the biggest tax break!
i commented the same, that’s not fair at all
Perhaps it's because the tax rates are not linear? Taxes are in fact non-linear and rates for higher value properties are higher. Just like income taxes. They are called PROGRESSIVE tax rates for a reason. It's because the progressives wanted it that way and convinced us all it was a good thing. It's not. See what happens? It looks to you like they are getting more. But perhaps they have PAID more thanks to the anti-capitalist systems in place. Even in Texas. It's sad really.
Should be abolished... theft needs to stop.
They say how much one might save but they don't say how much one will end up PAYING. My friend lives in a suburb of Ft. Worth in $200k house and his taxes are $6000 a year. Listening to the numbers they're kicking around here, it sounds like my friend save $500 a year. That's not much savings.
500 less is better than nothing....
@@theelder91 I agree it's better than nothing. But Texas has some highest property taxes in the country and this new tax law they're talking about won't change that. $6000 a year is basically RENT. And if the day comes that you can't pay that "rent", the "LANDLORD" (the Government) WILL kick you out of the home you thought you owned.
Well said.
My house in Germany is over 400k and I’m paying €40 a year on property tax.
My taxes is 7500 a year as of last year and my house valued at 360,000 due to the massive inflation and price increases. Now after the housing prices cooled its valued at 270,000 about a 90K price drop. So if everything holds true I might end up getting like 3k dollar less in taxes. Increase in taxes was stupid increase after the pandemic. Paying this amount in property taxes is a damn ripoff. People can't afford keep their own homes.
The reason Texas has higher taxes on property is because they have never had a sales tax on groceries and so therefore they have to make the money up from somewhere else I have aunts and uncles that live in Waco
Be glad you’re getting some relief, try California!
You don’t want the smoke Texans.
Enjoy it
@GueraG4DAGOD homestead exemption is what you need and remember to ALWAYS protest 🪧.
Thank God I can't wait
Is the surplus $18B revenue from the sale of one of Texas's largest oil refineries that was sold for billions of dollars to the Saudis a few short years ago? Google it.
Just remember renters, you pay property taxes also. Might not be “your” property tax bill but you paying it for sure. So save yourself some money and vote for this. Don’t listen to the politicians that are trying to tell you that you do not pay property taxes. You do and believe that.
Denton count just raised property values to market value. So anything that this saved is gone.
It’s crazy that I’m paying 15k a year in property taxes.
Good new but how are they going to make up for it? Feels like the feel good before the hit. Are sales taxes going to rise? That would hurt a lot of people and put us behind possibility even more.
This property tax Cut is Nothing in comparison to the cost of living increase Americans have endured over the last 3 years. Drop in the Bucket. sssving m a $100.00 a month will make No Difference. To me or anyone else. As Long as Gas is over $ 3.00 a gallon, Food bill to High.
The govt of Texas has little to do with inflation,, in fact,,the Governor supports expanding drilling to reduced energy costs,, you shud thank him for this as it took guts to get done,, Biden giveaways a shutting down our economy drove up inflation,, not Texas legislators
Landlords are paying more than 6-month of rental income to property tax. How do they expect landlord will pass any tax relief to tenants. Renters get nothing from this bill and they will vote "NO".
It's not for renters. Incentives for homeownership is good.
I agree. Rents are high BECAUSE taxes are high. If property taxes did not exist, then Landlords would not need to cover those costs in their rents. The problem is that the TAXES will not be lower due to a RATE reduction. They will stay high because the government -- the ones that NEED the money -- are also the ones that determine the value of the property. Therefore, nothing changes for the Renter. Blame the government. Not the landlord.
embarrassed for everyone complaining in the comments about this. you can't help these people, nothing is ever good enough. moved to west texas and incredibly grateful for the cheap housing, cheap gas and this tax cut.
is not complaining about the benefits but how the benefits are shifted to benefit the high value properties more than the lower property value. do the math and find out for yourself
Great news!!
Income tax, school tax, property tax, gst, vat, registration, medical........list never end
Property taxes should never increase more than inflation
California’s system of property taxation under Article XIIIA of the state Constitution, commonly referred to as Proposition 13, values property at its 1975 fair market value with annual increases limited to the inflation rate, as measured by the California Consumer Price Index, or 2%, whichever is less. 0:14
So that's why my property taxes (school taxes) have gone up so much the last 2 years?! They were making it where they still get the same amount.
All the way up to a million? That’s the average price of a house in Los Angeles 😅
Sounds like publicity... the property values have doubled and tripled since 2012/2013.
Most of us will not benefit from this or it will be so small that the tax savings is minimal. People fail to see that the max homestead value you will receive is still 20% of your homes value.
The truth of this is. The rich are benefiting the most from this. Their cuts are gonna eat a vast majority of that money. 1 million dollar home onis someone who shouldn’t be getting a tax break. $6,700?!? Compared to people who are low income who will only getting maybe a couple $100 off? My property is 100k. I’ll see VERY little relief. This is a waste of money. Give it to schools. For infrastructure and security upgrades only. 18b can permanently house every homeless person in texas for the rest of their lives. If only the rich are gonna get 90% of the kickback. Whats the point?
People with 1m dollar homes are the ones funding the majority of your taxes you bozo.
Imagine bitching about getting a tax break.
@@teramater what tax break? Ahaha. My tax “relief” is $200. Thats a week of gas rn. Gtfoh. Dont try to gaslight me. The people who need the help the most will get the least benefit by this. If you were smart enough to read and understand english you’d be able to deduce this for yourself. Meanwhile Joe Rogan is gonna save $1,000’s on hos property taxes…. Who do you think NEEDS the help more? Me? Or Joe Rogan and all the other wealthy people who will be saving 1,000’s?
the poor subsidizing the rich on property taxes in texas
If you can afford a 1 mill house. You can afford the taxes.
We should be stealing and spending less of other peoples money.
$58 a month off taxes. Helps a little but very marginal
Let’s do this in LOS ANGELES NOW,dam property taxes are crazy high and people cannot retire, dam government are killing the people with there dam high property taxes!!!!
Agree
Why does Texas get a deal and everyone else in different states don't? They need to help everyone in the nation!
Hell no! Other states screw themselves with their ridiculous laws and policies
Trying to buy votes are we? Do the residents get refunds for all of the years they’ve been over paying and what services will be reduced. What happened to all of the over payments. Who’s freezer did it end up in?
1300 a year is just under 110 a month..i guess that’s something but it doesn’t rlly do much
Meanwhile in New Jersey they are finding ways to increase taxes 😢
more help to the rich. if you do the math: ($1300/330k; $3000/500k; $6700/900k) you will see the people that owns larger value properties get a larger percentage discount that the person who owns a lower value home. that is not fair here in texas nor in China.
the base of society will subsidize the wealthy in property taxes in texas
We need these in Los Angeles ca
Cover up, lady, geez. Modesty goes a long way, be a professional.
We should be exempted from public school taxation if our kids don't attend public school. They don't deserve my children as students, they don't deserve my taxes either.
Grow up.
that is texas tax money going to one group . instead of the texas people. that would be over 513 dollar per citizen. where is help texas act and give all texans an annual check.
take the taxes and build the wall.
Let the outof staters who move here pay more. Lower present residents prop. Tax . Several problems solved. Case closed.
There is no state taxes and Texas have to make for the services they provide as state. Other states charge state taxes but all that revenue goes to roads, schools and other services. We all have to pitch in for the cause.
How about making those that need the services pay more than those that don't need the services. Understand that we can't chose what services the Government provides, but the government can deem those that we must pay for. That's unlike almost every other service on the planet in which we CAN chose.
@@wacobeer6469 yes sir I agree with you 100% this is why we should have check and balance on everything.
GOOD FOR GOV. ABBOTT,,,IF HE RUNS FOR PRESIDENT HE HAS MY VOTE,,,NO MATTER HOW MUCH WE SAVE,,I MUCH RATHER MISSPEND IT THAN THE GOVERNMENT,,,,,
Isnt so much taxes but the value system. Have to say property tax from cou ty close to actual worth. The market baluation is insane. No way in God's green earth my 17 year old home increased 200,000+ in value. The sad part is since taxes went up, i surance too so I dare net most ate in negative escrow. Now, to lower your payment I would imagine that you need to pay the negative equity in full to reduce payment. Otjerwise, you are stuck for at least a year paying a high payment to make up the negative escrow. Since TX doesnt let you have a surplus in escrow...With tje onflation as ot is it sucks losing 500 extra a month on to of everything else skyrocketing.
instead of fixing the high housing tax for the people who have a home. these texas "leaders" are just throwing money in to a fire pit(poor legislation). they should use that money to subsidies businesses for a few years . after they raise the texas minimum wage to 19.25 an hour. with 18 billion . you can give 40000 companies about half million to help them out or up to or match their payroll
So silly. High schoolers working fast food don't need $19.25/hr. If you're trying to raise a family doing a job a high schooler should be doing, then you've made some bad choices along the way.
@@WinkyMcWinkerson that is what your party wants you to believe, these buisnesses short their worker so that their bottom line is bigger
@@WinkyMcWinkersoni think people like you are used to being exploited by the government. the government only cares about how much money it makes. if you waited for them to decide what is a good ammount then you would still be making nothing . or be rich at 75cents an hour

That is the case in every state

Will schools which already have the least paid teachers in the US get less money?
Hopefully. Public education has been an abject failure and throwing money at the problem has only made it worse.
Why would they be paid more for such atrocious results?
If people can afford a mlion dollar house they can afford more.
My 100% VA disability will be my property tax relief.
lol all of a sudden republicans love hand outs lol
So where is the shortfall money coming from?
Covid benefits they didnt give out probably. The texas system failed hard for covid relief. Bc each county had to set up their own portal for services. And many just didnt. Many small communities leaders just got a nice pay bonus and that’s really about it. Your local PD got new cars and they paid 14k each just to put the dashcams in them. Texas has a surplus of money on the system already. PLENTY of it too. They just use it for dumb stuff instead of the needs of the people. Why did we need federal money to fix the grid if we had this surplus? Stuff dont line up. Bureaucracy fails us, daily/weekly/yearly.
There isn't a shortfall. The state has 32.7 BILLION dollar surplus.
@@howulikedemrice You're thinking of the Rainy Day Fund. Not the same. Okay, so we apply the Rainy Day Fund. Once it's tapped out in a year or two, where does the money for these property tax cuts come from?
