I spend 5-6 months a year in Lithuania and the rest in Switzerland. I'm not very good with language yet (it's one of the oldest languages apparently) but my gosh how Lithuanians appreciate you saying something in Lithuanian :) Great spirits! Each visit Vilnius is getting more and more beautiful, lots of constructions going on, lots of good cafes and restaurants. Guys, visit Labanoras and Neringa, those are wonderful. Pure nature. Lithuanian friends usually take me to Labanoras in winter. We make campfire, hike, make coffee, food. They just love nature like no one else :D :) Greetings from Switzerland, coming back in Summer!

I'm really glad that Lithuania has started to get some of the recognition that it deserves. There's so much more to Lithuania than Vilnius. Take some time to do some research and you'll find lots of lovely places, you will definitely be happy if you love nature . Head to the other side of Lithuania during the summer, along the Baltic coast.
Always the same in the Baltic country’s everything is so nice. Like you I’ve been to Tallinn (Estonia) and Riga (Latvia) and the people are fantastic. Food is excellent beer is nice and the service everywhere is brilliant too. Enjoy your weekend

Don’t be fooled by their distanced attitude: if you need a hand or seek help, they’ll get out of their way to lift you up. I had a little contract there for a couple of months. If things were easier to immigrate, I would’ve sell all my stuff and move there.
Looks lovely as are most Baltic countries, and trolley buses too…old enough to remember them in Manchester in the sixties. Spent a sleepless night in Bucharest in the seventies, kept awake by the sparking of buses going past the hotel.
I grew up in Cardiff in the 60s and we had trolley buses. The connecting arms were always jumping off but our trolley buses were double deckers so the driver couldn't re-connect them as the bus was too tall. I'm off to Vilnius in July to my nephews wedding. His future wife is Lithuanian. Appreciate your insight into the city.
Thanks for sharing Freddie! I had the good fortune of spending a few days in Vilnius in October, one the greatest cities in Europe. I was blown away by the architecture both old and new, a beautiful river and so much history. Hope you do another summer ride around the city in 2024!

Ohh Freddie & Monika, another fantastic adventure in Lithuania! It is so beautiful to see Vilnius covered in winter snow parks & bare trees and yet slushy mud on the roads with those classic electric buses. Sadly, a short trip but so energetic. The balaclava makes you look so gangster 😎
So beautiful! In the 1980s I visited the Baltic states. They were still under Soviet control. Most of our time was in Latvia. Loved this. Vilnius looks amazing. My old Russian teacher used to say that trolleybuses are a good metaphor for life: there’s a certain amount of freedom to steer your own path, but if you move too far away from the guidelines the sparks fly.
Does not apply now as Lithuania got its freedom back :) I am Swiss, got Lithuanian heritage. I spend half a year every year in Vilnius and love Labanoras forests and lakes. There's also Neringa, beautiful peaces of pure nature :) And the people are so Western and European compared to 20 years ago! Lithuania is growing rapidly recently :) Each visit it feels more like home
Being a Lithuanian, reading a quote by a Russian teacher, makes me interpret it differently :) One of the reasons Lithuania got its independence and its life back was exactly because of the immense desire and will to steer away from the soviet guidelines.. there were "sparks", but all was endured thanks to our Freedom Fighters.

Hey Freddie and Monika. Since I began watching your channel , I have become more and more intrigued by Lithuania and Vilnius in particular, after watching your various tips there. Now on my “ places to see” list. Thanks for your insights and for Monika’s excellent videos. Cheers.Dan. ✌️🏍🇨🇦
Finally!! Freddie. Its just as cold where you are as it is here in Kentucky. It’s -3 degrees with 6inches of snow on the ground. I’m so happy. Usually your on a beech in Bali or the Tenerife, or Lake Como. I bet those Carhartt clothes you got on kept ya warm. That’s all we wear here in out in the country. Lithuania looks like a nice place.
Hi Freddie and Monica what a spectacular place it looks great thanks for showing us places that I would love to visit one day. So clean and it looks like the people have a lot of respect for there country. I would love Britain to hopefully get there one day as it looks like they have lost it over the years. Maybe I am wrong. But Lithuania looks great. Have a great time regards Martin
Looks beautiful! The streets are so pretty and love what the locals do in the stairways! And shock horror life is going on as normal despite the snow 🌨. The UK closes down when ther is 2 cm of snow and a bit of frost😮. Monika's home country is beautiful and plan to visit Vilniusc soon. ❤
It’s so true, Lynn. It’s currently -10 degrees with a thick fresh covering of snow and everything works as normal (airports, roads shops and schools etc)
My European vacation days are behind me now, sadly. But as I refuse to fly anymore and going any other way from the US takes too long, well, that's that. However, I have had many wonderful visits and I must say, the East is my favorite. And my favorite place of all is Prague. The old central part of the city is breathtakingly beautiful and walking down the hill into it from the overlook at the government palace brings you further and further back in time to where the Saint Charles bridge crosses the river into Old Prague. Thankfully, Prague was never bombed during WW 2 so the buildings and streets are original and lovely. I missed out on Vilnius and from what I see here, I'd love to visit. I can't thank you both enough for filming your trips for us, they're beautifully done and very entertaining.
My Son is looking for somewhere to have weekend break. I will let him know about Vilnius, it looks nice there but hopefully the snow would have gone come March. Cheers.
Having a view towards a brutalist building would be a dream come true for me. I really love those. My Norway currently has an “electric bus-crisis” this winter. Charging issues and the batteries don’t last long enough. I’m sure the buses of Vilnius keep going through the winter.
Freddie,Monica what a beautifully warm, wrap me up in a cardigan video that was 🤗 this is exactly what was needed on a stormy Sunday afternoon. Thank you
Trolly buses are great, they were used in various UK cities until the 1970s including Cardiff where I grew up. If late for school we would use the standard excuse that the trolly bus was “de-polled” which did happen occasionally and would mean the driver having to re attach the pole to the overhead wires. Brilliant vehicles, no idea why they were got rid off.
How did the Baltic states remain beautiful under the Soviet era ? Next time you visit it would be nice to hear Monika ordering the food and drink in her own language. I had to smile as you were eloquently describing the beautifully kept communal stairs at the start of the video whilst paint was peeling off the walls ! 🇬🇧
The mentality and the culture of the people. Though soviets either outright killed or exiled to do backbreaking labor in the siberian tundra all our best and brightest, the culture remained.
Relaxing video Freddie & Monica (or Monika?). @@FreddieDobbs You won't do that for £17. I know airlines don't pay tax on aviation fuel, but I'll never understand how they do it for such little money.
The trolleys are of Czechoslovak origin, Now Czech, mostly from the 80s, I believe over half of them were built specifically in 1986. They still work great for how ancient they are, there is a running joke that the government can't get rid of them because the mechanics know how to fix them so well, but as you probably noticed, they are slowly getting replaced by new trolleys. For a while the government even wanted to get rid of them entirely and replace them with battery powered busses, but that never went anywhere and I'm really glad actually. The have a sort of nostalgic beauty.
We have cruised more times than I can remember but probably the best experience was our Baltic cruise visiting countries we would never normally visit, two days in St. Petersburg Russia was the icing on the cake for us absolutely fantastic, shame it's no longer available.

Spent 1/2 a day in Vilnius in August 2022, would have loved to spend more time there but had to go back to my truck and head for Klaipeda to catch a ferry, its a lovely city, but would also like to spend sometime looking round other parts of Lithuania as it looked lovely from the cab of a truck.
I remember the trolley buses from my childhood. They were discontinued sometime in the’60s I think. They seemed problematic in the harsh winters we have as those contact poles couldn’t cope with ice build up on the lines.
Looks amazing!! I'm a retired expat livjng jn Thailand. When I left the US I vowed i would never see another snowflake. So far, so good. Now visiting Phu Quoc, Vietnam. Awesome place. Nice and warm here. Have a great trip!!
I'm old enough to remember trolley busses running on London's streets. They were double-deckers but were beset by exactly the same problem of accidental disconnection. It was the bus Conductor's job to deploy a long pole to reconnect the trailing arm and get the bus going again. Unlike today's busses, the trolley bus was pollution free and also much quieter than their diesel engined brothers.
I visited Tallin, Riga with my wife on a city break, was fantastic. But the ultimate was last year, riding up through the Salwalky gap. Up through the Baltic states, boat to Helsinki and up to Nordkapp ! Summer of course ! I made a 5 part video which is here on RUclips ! 🎉
Gonna do a lap of the Baltic states come spring. Tallinn - Ventspils clockwise as it were. Was going to do the Suwalki gap but sadly, there was not enough time this year. Well, there was time but then my mate decided he wanted to tag along on a Vespa and I recon we’ll have more fun if we skip those extra 500km. Next year, quite possibly.
Brilliant , Freddie And Monica story and the is like Ljubljana ❤️🎶🌿 you’re place coffee and the BEERS 12% nice choices safe me a table next to yours ❤️🌍🎶🌿🏍
Freddie I can almost hear your teeth chattering over the video !! 🥶Knowing of your penchant for so many decent warm and w/p motorcycle jackets you may have been better off wearing one of those bad boys in your collection!.., especially one of your classic looking padded wax type ones, rather than that small summer jacket?!! ….I bet Monika was draped head to toe in some technical outdoorsy parka or wool overcoat etc!….”when in Rome…🤣🤣👊
Try 60 years for the trolleybuses ;) Everybody is in a love-hate relationship with them. An absolute icon of the city, so old, yet running well and I am not looking forward to the day they'll be replaced, which is supposed to happen soon-ish.
A hallway like that in Switzerland would be considered a fire hazard and is therefore not allowed. I lived all my 20s (several moons ago) in a Swiss town that had a large network of Trollys and I was facinated by them. Part of that facination is when the sparks fly with all those crackling sounds that accompanies them, that makes me stand with dropped jaw, like a small child.... Notice to Monika - try and get the sparking on camera, and watch it back in SloMo. Best done evenings, as the light fades! I^ve been facinated by the Baltic countries for a long time, especially as I know of a few lituanians, but i've unfortunately never been there... this video has at least got me online looking for possibilities, thanks.
We go to Bulgaria a lot and It seems really silly that we can fly to Sofia cheaper than getting a couple of meals in Weatherspoon's, long may it continue . And if you go visit Plovdiv oldest city in Europe.
I’ve saved Plovdiv to my list, thanks Malcolm. It’s cheaper to fly to Lithuania than it is to get a train from Ipswich to London- that always blows my mind🤯

Late autumn or winter is a bad time, best to visit in late spring, summer or early autumn.
@@gefreiterr 5months late, but i cannot take vacation leave during that time 😢
Spent 1/2 a day in Vilnius in August 2022, would have loved to spend more time there but had to go back to my truck and head for Klaipeda to catch a ferry, its a lovely city, but would also like to spend sometime looking round other parts of Lithuania as it looked lovely from the cab of a truck.
Looks a wonderful place to visit
Yet again another great video
I remember the trolley buses from my childhood. They were discontinued sometime in the’60s I think. They seemed problematic in the harsh winters we have as those contact poles couldn’t cope with ice build up on the lines.
lovely stuff
It's been -20 with the wind chill in the mtn's of TN. 48 tomorrow....time to get the speedo out!!!!!!!
Looks amazing!!
I'm a retired expat livjng jn Thailand. When I left the US I vowed i would never see another snowflake. So far, so good.
Now visiting Phu Quoc, Vietnam. Awesome place. Nice and warm here.
Have a great trip!!
I don’t blame you Bruce- I do prefer the warmth, too. Happy travels!
Love your videos. You guys are great!! Always look forward to the next one.
Stay safe!!!
I root for you and Monica, Freddie.
Thanks Ravi🤜🏼🤛🏼
I'm old enough to remember trolley busses running on London's streets. They were double-deckers but were beset by exactly the same problem of accidental disconnection. It was the bus Conductor's job to deploy a long pole to reconnect the trailing arm and get the bus going again. Unlike today's busses, the trolley bus was pollution free and also much quieter than their diesel engined brothers.
You should definitely go to Gdansk, Poland.
@@903lew well worth the trip. Ride safe
So jelly, that you two get carrot cake every time. I see you both are experts on carrot cake as I am!😊
It’s consumer research😆🍰
Brilliant , Freddie And Monica story and the is like Ljubljana ❤️🎶🌿 you’re place coffee and the BEERS 12% nice choices safe me a table next to yours ❤️🌍🎶🌿🏍
Ah come on Freddie we had -56c wind chill last week in Alberta Canada. Minus 5 is like a heat wave in the winter 😎😎😎😎
What nice surprise! You showed my beloved capital! I mean your clothes should be warmer😊
I do need a proper North Face style jacket I think. It feels great to be back❤️🇱🇹
Freddie I can almost hear your teeth chattering over the video !!
Not in Bulgaria we went from the Black Sea coast to Bansko approx 3/4 across the country for £15 ea.
These places now have a higher standard of living than Britain. Clean, tidy, safe, stylish, and people look far healthier and better dressed.
We had trolley busses in Bournemouth till the late 60's.
Don't remember you ever going to Ipswich Transport museum.
Ipswichs old trolley busses are in there.
I had no idea!🤯
First, you created my itch to visit the Isle of Wight. Now youve piqued my interest in Vilnius and other Baltic cities! Plus of course you regularly get me fixated on every single motorcycle you have on the channel. Says something about your infectious enthusiasm. Cheers from Alabama
Brrrr but interesting, think I want to go ta much 😊
Lithuania 👍👍👍
