    I'm 30years old. As Bald said - we can not miss Soviet past. Because our grand parents were suffering, our parents were fighting for independence and we have to cherish what they have built for us. It was worst years of Lithuania's history, stopped development which Lithuania had since early 20th century, killed ~30% of people, mostly intellectual, rich people, created shady schemes (bribes, corruption, etc.) and we are still fighting with all these leftovers.
    And not only that, balts (Latvians and Lithuanians) are not slavs, they have totally different culture, language, history, etc.
    And nobody reacts to word Soviet as a trigger, but everyone wants aknowledgment of differences and that it was dark past against people's will.

The Baltic countries take a staunch EU position precisely because they haven't forgotten what the Soviet Union did to them and fear what Putin could do in the future. After we adopted Euro prices doubled, but salaries tripled or even quadrupled in some places. For example six years ago my salary as a salesman in one shopping mall was 900 Litas per month, which was about 260 Eur! And now in Vilnius it's quite usual to get about 800-1200 Eur (after taxes) for casual job per month. The progress in prices/salaries is really fast here

    Also, would love to replicate on Johnys last words. We do not want to delete our history, we wish it woul'nt have happened. It is still very painfull to a lot of Lithianians, since there are still a lot of people that lost their loved ones or grandparents to the regime. Some of our parents or grandparents came back from the Siberia. The history is still alive. Of course there's always people that glamorize those times, but mostly we educate our youth on it . Constant discussions , art projects, exibitions created on it, so we would know. But it is not supose to be part of our identity, it was forced on us. :)

    • @grobuonis2773
      @grobuonis2773 2 года назад +17

      Agreed, that last sentence is just what I was going to say - not our history, therefore we don't have to preserve any of it. We're not deleting our history, in fact we're promoting and reviving it. "Destroying history" is one of the biggest pet peeves of mine. Two months prior to the removal of the monument to regime collaborator Cvirka (which made it into Bald's video), a new monument to Jonas Karolis Chodkevičius was unveiled, or what about that sculpture of Jonas Basanavičius from a few years ago. To do the opposite of what we have been doing since 1990 or even to have done nothing since then would be the real destruction of history, as we would end up having all of the same copy-pasted, inorganically imposed revolutionaries, heroes, holidays, national myths and narratives as 14 other faraway and sometimes culturally foreign countries. Now THAT would be destruction of OUR history.
