Photos great. Ilya Repin was a fabulous artist. The voice narration spoils the video with her nasal American accent which makes her sound stupid, why? Listen with sound off. Repin was born in Ukraine and spent his mature years in what is now Finland. His paintings are very politically “edgy” and are not all exhibited in russia despite the fact that Repin is considered “Russia’s most loved realist painter”. In his painting “They Were Not Expecting Him”, a man returning from war (or prison) shows a home with a portrait of Taras Shevchenko on the wall, Ukraine’s most famous poet. Repin was good friends with Tolstoy and Gogol. Gogol was another Ukrainian who wrote about Ukraine, but highly metaphorically. Thanks for the visuals, change the voiceover to a Ukrainian English speaker for more clicks.
