Little Bit of Thoreau Tiny Cabin Cottage in The Blue Ridge Mountains
It's easy to fall in love with this sweet little cottage in the Blue Ridge Mountains. This tiny house design is a cottage that is located near Asheville, North Carolina outside of the Pisgah National Forest. The charming tiny home design is beautiful inside with its tiny house interior design and outside. This cabin building has a high ceiling, covered front porch, loft space, wood stove and warm wood interior in the perfect forest location that makes this cabin building look so good. The interior design uses reclaimed barn wood, with custom kitchen cabinets made from barn wood with a black walnut countertop made from sawmill planks for a warm and cozy look. It goes to show that simplicity can go a long way in cabin building design.
Directly behind the Little Bit Of Thoreau wood cabin are the foothills that are close to the Pisgah National Forest, a place where you can go hiking through miles of uninhabited wilderness, similar to the Great Smoky Mountains. The cabin building has a well that was sunk 325 feet into the bedrock which makes for pure, pristine water. The cabin building is less than 400 square feet in size, along with the small upstairs loft, and a good sized porch which extends the interior space outdoors and overlooks the valley down below. The cabin building exterior is made from board and batten roughly sawn Hemlock, with an interior that is all wood to include North Carolina, harvested Hemlock, Cypress and Oak, along with some reclaimed wood from local barns.
The exterior doors in the cabin building were made from a local craftsman, who also made the beautiful kitchen countertop using two-inch thick Walnut that he found at a local sawmill. The wood cabin is inspired by Appalachian culture and architectural design. The builders tried their best to use local timber and local craftsmen. Inside the wood cabin is very simple with nothing more than a few chairs, a table and a bed. The cabin building has electricity and running water, but for internet, you have to walk down the hill to get within a good range of the owner's daughters farmhouse. This is where the inspiration for Thoreau came from, as originally the tiny cabin design was going to be finished off with more furniture, decor and a full kitchen, but after living a life with the basics, the owner had no desire to move beyond the sense of raw simplicity that the wood cabin exudes.
The Little Bit of Thoreau is a cabin building that is sure to inspire, with a beautiful quality that leaves you feeling calm and relaxed. The wood cabin has no microwave or television, which these days is rare, rather than the norm. And that is a good thing, as it inspires creativity, contentment and appreciation for the simpler things in life. Just above the front door in the grain in the wood, you can make out the word love which seems like a poetic message meant to bless those who enter the lovely tiny cabin.
