Greg Howe is so versatile and has had a great career. With Howe ll you can really see where he came from - and that is the school of King Edward himself. At this gig they tore up Light Up the Sky. I got to see them in, basically, a small pool hall in Norwalk, Connecticut, around the time Now Hear This came out. They were fuckin incredible!! One of my 5 favorite post VH, guitar heavy, hard rock bands. Severely under-rated, great talent and songs.
Really great guitar player!!! Saw him 30 plis years ago with this band. I saw he was going to play locally and went to see gim live after all these years and he is still an amazing guitar player. Hopefully he plays around here again.
Caught a Howe II performance way back (in what almost seems like the stone age). While waiting in line outside the venue you could tell a sound check was happening. I turned a nearby door handle...door was unlocked and I went in. Howe and the drummer were going through some of the most brain frying stuff I've ever heard. Got kicked out after about 10 minutes, but that shit sounded way better than what happened at the show (which was great) a couple hours later.
Jesus has Greg matured and become an even better player. Wheelhouse and Soundproof are (pun) proof of this as his technique has gotten cleaner and his compositions just keep getting better!
Man, love their stuff. I remember seeing them on tour back in the day, wish they would've continued with this format. Instead, Greg focused on his solo instrumental material, great in it's own right. I prefer this shred Van Halen format though, lol.
I read an interview with Greg where he said that his brother (the vocalist) ended up not taking it seriously and distancing himself from Greg, which also coincided with the decline of this kind of rock music. So Greg got on with his stuff.
I sent them a cassette tape in 1986, I was accepted off of that alone. Couldn't get the money to attend... if you know anything about that time, then you know who I would have been attending with and who would have been teaching at that time. I missed out BIG TIME

I remember walking behind MI's main building (that small street behind the Church of Scinetology) and bumping into Ritenour & Carlton who at the time were my favourite axemen and they burst into laughter when they saw my state of shock. Anyway, listening back to this show, I must say it hasn't aged that good, and Greg was so much more impressive throughout the 1990's (especially on his fifth album.... the one starting with "Howe about it"). But it definitely brings back great memories... and that was the end of an era, that's for sure !
