Out of all 3 singers, Floor is the only one who has caused me to experience physical manifestations of the connection to the music in the form of goosebumps & tears. Somehow she speaks to my soul. The songs she has done on the Beste Zangers show are totally off the Nightwish path & also showcase her unmatched versatility. I found her from Nightwish then explored After Forever & ReVamp (her bands). Then saw her duets with Simone Simon from Epica. (One day, take a listen to Epica - Sancta Terra ft. Floor)I referred to her as a metal goddess. Then after Beste Zangers, simply Goddess is more fitting as she can truly do it all. When she sings a cover, it becomes her own. Floor’s version of Lady Gaga’s “Shallow” is now #1 in the Netherlands. Mama makes me cry even after 100 listens. Mama is the only word I can understand in the song as it’s sung in Dutch. She has a unique voice, I remember my first Floorgasm (I think it wasn't call like that) it was with After Forever, Leaden Legacy, and never lost her track. Loved her with ReVamp, and absolutely adore her now with Nightwish, she has grown a lot, always improving her singing. My Goddess, My Queen. Great human being, and artist.
When I saw Tarja in concert.... I cried like a baby from the start of the concert to the end... and the end was PAINFUL. I expect something VERY similar with Floor when I'll see her. Sadly I was left of my expectation when I saw Anette live. She also seemed to lack voice stamina... by the end of the show it was clearly showing .

Two years ago I heard Nightwish for the first time, and a day doesn't go by without listening to them. I don't like to compare and I will not, but in my opinion Floor has the best Voice on the planet, to me Tuomas Holopainen is a musical genius....Keep going
Just when I thought I was the oldest fan, you come out of the woodwork and steal it from me. Lol I am a 74 year old NW junkie. Floor got me here, and The group kept me here. Their songs have so much meaning. Their choreography, and lighting techniques are great also. Thank you for being a fan. I will go to a concert if one comes in my area or within a thousand miles of where I live.
Huge floor fan here. She can do it all, and I love her stylistic choices, where Tarja's turn me away from her. I respect the other singers, but I'm a Floor fan all the way, have been since the first After Forever album in 2000. As an example of a stylistic choice, Tarja sings this in a grand operatic style, because that's what she knows. Anette sings this as a poppy song, because that's what she knows. Floor starts the song out small and intimate, as the song deserves - but builds up her power and closes it out in a grand style, adding punch and power to the song.
One of my sisters asked me which version of this song do I like best. I told her I like all three. She asked me which version do I love. I told her I love Floor's version.

I love your approach. It's positive. Yes, there were 3 eras of this band, each one important, and yes, it's an evolution to the present Nightwish. Each of us have preferences to one singer or another, but it is important to see the living band as a result of evolution in time.
Great review Olly. I like how you pick up on particular aspects of the performance. Some reviewers just have very little to say about the detail of the music, which makes you wonder why they do it! For me, Floor Jansen is an extraordinary vocalist -- a soprano with a huge vocal range. She has the ability to move effortlessly from a fragile and soulful sound, like molten-glass, through to full power operatic vocals. Check out the way she does this in this performance. She's incredibly relaxed in the first two verses and choruses. Each word is crystal clear, there's a beautiful melodic warmth to the timbre of her voice and her vibrato is clear and perfect. Then after the guitar solo and step-up key change, the song builds to a crescendo and this requires a more powerful vocal lead to match the tone of the song. Here she amps up the power and gives a commanding performance that is stunning. You can sense the passion she has for the music. She's giving 100% commitment to the song and rewarding the fans for showing up. Wow! With a voice like that, she has the world at her feet.
I totally agree with you. There is so much so hear in the song and the power of Floor, gives it life. She sings with clarity and perfection. I enjoy and love Nightwish.
The concert is in the Czech Republic, is a festival and is called Master of Rock.My favorite of the three is Floor.So much feeling and so much power in the voice.Divine.You can do the same with Ever dream, the same will come out.
I believe that Floor is the last piece....the last piece for the penultimate Nightwish....the instrument and passion to express Tuomas's vehicle of spirit.

I tried to explain evolution of Nightwish this way been a fan for over 20 years discovered a Nightwish by accident as I was strictly a metal head heard Tarja opera singer and I fell in love with the mix of metal and opera. Your spot on as Tarja left and Annette was brought in it became more rock/ pop Annette good singer but not a good fit for Nightwish as I expected more from the music:compositions of Touamas. It almost seemed he was trying to compose the music to Annette short comings and not reach out and explore Tarja vocal operatic range. The energy with the band was and fans was not at a high level. They were just playing music. Floor brought the energy up even higher for Touamas and the other band mates to again reach even higher expression and energy. Floor rejuvenated and in my opinion saved Nightwish. Great reaction and my favorite Nightwish song is always live and the next one👍

@@ollytherock7324 Actually, it was in 2015 but the DVD of the festival was released in 2016. I was lucky enough to be there right at the front. There and then Floor brought me back to Nightwish.
I love Tarja, and some of the early songs she recorded with them are amongst my favourites. She was also the singer the first time I saw Nightwish live so holds a special place for me, but there is no doubt that Floor is a more versatile singer (is there a more versatile singer than Floor alive today even?) and Floor has a beautiful quality to her voice that just tears at your heart. I've listened to Floor since her After Forever days (and was lucky enough to see her live with that band.) Her joining Nightwish is fantastic, and I love how she makes so many of the older songs (Tarja & Anette era) her own without making the originals any less beautiful when you listen to them, I just wish Tuomas could have rewritten the end of GLS whilst Tarja, was still with them, would love to hear her give it that big ending too!
When you hear Floor sing a Nightwish song you are hearing it the way Toumas wanted it to sound originally when he wrote the song regardless of which singer he wrote it for. All you have to do is watch his face in “She’s my Sin” 2013 and that will tell you.

Good job. I started listening to Nightwish in the late '90s, but was never a fan strictly because I really disliked Tarja. Only two songs from the Tarja era were on my playlist (Sleeping Sun and Walking in the Air), and both of these I loved in spite of Tarja. I once drove from Cleveland to Detroit with Sleeping Sun on repeat the whole way. Tarja's insistence on that heavy slow vibrato reminds me of all the French songs from the '60s and '70s where every song had to have the same stupid vibrato. The minute I heard Floor's version, Tarja's was replaced. I always felt that Tarja was much more concerned with the mechanics of singing at the expense of singing with any kind of emotion. I know many people like Tarja's version, some because it's more cold and clinical, but that's not why I listen to music. The best thing about Nightwish 'then' was that it introduced me to the whole female-fronted symphonic metal universe (After Forever, Within Temptation, The Gathering, Epica, Elis, Leaves' Eyes, Edenbridge, etc.) which I probably wouldn't have discovered without Nightwish. I listened to Nightwish sporadically with Anette, but only one song from that era ended on my playlist (Eva - and I pray that I can hear Floor sing that someday), but since I was very familiar with Floor from After Forever and Revamp, I immediately boarded the Nightwish train when she joined. Now I have 4 selections from Nightwish on my playlist, but they are the entire Wacken, Wembley, Tampere, and Bloodstock concerts, and I'm a happy guy. I'm loving your journey into Nightwish - everybody has shared your emotions while discovering them, and I think that's why the reactions are so popular - it's like discovering them all over again.

Before watching my own sleeping sun :), I want to commend you on your choice of videos; the sound quality was very good and I listened to all three singers. Great breakdown too. In the end... that emotional buzzer, right? ;) Gets me too.
Tarja version was mesmerising. Annettes verion I could have done without hearing it. Floor version was incredibly moving. You are right Olly Its a journey of development both for the band and the listener. For me at least Tarja was classic era Nightwish, Floor is present and future of Nightwish, Long may they reign,
Olly The Rock binging Nightwish and hitting the Sleeping Sun trifecta. Right on! 🤘This is one of those ones that's very close between Floor and Tarja for me. There's a bunch of those though. I'm going to be happy either way. But Floor was made for Nightwish that is evident to me.
So Floor has an advantage on songs like this, where a big dynamic range adds so much more to the performance. Tarja’s version is awesome but that kind of operatic singing is really hard to sing softly since that style was originally meant to project above all else, as no mics existed when it was originated. So to the modern ear it seems less emotionally involving. Annette makes some really interesting phrasing choices live; definitely putting her own spin on it, but ultimately it’s not quite as “Nightwishy” as the other two, even though the studio albums she did with them are as good any the band has done. But the huge advantage Floor had when she did this song or any other Nightwish song, was her experience. She was already 5 years older when she joined Nightwish than Tarja was when she left. I think this was another 2 years later. And she had already been lead singer in 2 other significant bands for 15 years! You clearly hear a performer connecting with the song, but you also hear her emotionally supercharging it with all the little details and dynamics only a seasoned pro can bring.
Floor has no "advantage" in this song, quite the opposite. You seem to forget a little detail: the song was written specifically for Tarja's voice. Tuomas always wrote with her vocal range in mind. Floor had to adapt to older material written for other singers with completely different vocal tone. It's not about microphones or age, the only "adavantage" Floor has is she's an amazing singer and she can turn any song into her own song and sound better than the original song (Beste Zangers is proof of that...).
I agree that’s her biggest advantage. I feel like her almost preternatural talent is a given at this point though. But given her ability to hear all the previous versions of this song as well as all the other old Nightwish songs, it’s no wonder that she can do killer versions of all of them
Best singer in the world!!! At least in metal. But she could choose any other genre and be a top singer! I found Nightwish with Tarja, I lost them with Anette, and I found them again with Floor. I started my music journey with metal in 1970. Bands like Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin etc. Bands which can now call classical metal bands. And then we got Anette... She just not fit to metal. She is good singer, but not metal. She have some really good Nightwish songs, ballad types and that one jazz song. Those she fits perfectly! And also to song Scaretale, that she made perfectly. And then we got Floor, and my day brightened. She is perfect fit to Nightwish. Really match made in heaven. Music by Tuomas + Floor´s voice and ability use emotions = perfection. Floor`s first concert with Nightwish was in Seattle 1.10.2012. (hmm, what a day, now is also 1.10.!). That was also in news (those afternoon newspapers), Floor came to continue show, cos Anette could not. And there was links to RUclips videos from that show. Very poor quality, I guess taken by phone. There could have been who ever singing or playing, sound quality was so poor. Anyway, visited in RUclips sometimes, looking if any better video exits. Nihgtwish visited then Argentina, mid Dec 2012. And someone made so called multicamera video. Friends different locations in the hall, making film (phones?, or digicamera?) and someone made one film from those. It was published in Jan 2013. First time quite ok quality, not same than Nightwish do their owns. But anyway good. And I was watching it, not much moved whole 2h. Could not, it was just so mesmerizing. And then they reached Ghost Love Score..., and THAT PART!.There it was, instant feeling, Nightwish must get this woman as permanent member. She is awesome, amazing. I guess I looked that one small part 10 times in a row. Her voice was so magical. I guess there was my first Floorgasm, even that word came much later :D . So, who I like most... :D BTW. Please check Sleeping Sun from Tampere 2015. Maybe you could do extra reaction video from it : ) ? I don´t know how to say this in English. But in Tampere there was a bridge coming out from stage. And when Tuomas start play his opening part to this song, Floor walked to that bridge. So she was singing it in the middle of audience! It was just awesome to see. And audio is better than this Czech video.

I can see that for sure. This song was written with Tarja voice. One thing I love is that Tuomas always writes with the lead singer in his mind. Unlike Tarja or Annette that are in one type of music background. Floor seems to be more versatile, would you agree with that. I for one agree with this song that Tarja was the right person for the song.
If you listen to the softer parts of the song Floors voice is so much more refined than Tarjas. Only flaw is the sudden switch to the louder part, her introduction of to the guitarpart is heavenly.
Floor's version just sounds... *right* somehow. Hers is my favourite version, followed by Tarja's version from the early years of the band when she still had more brassy warmth in her voice and didn't over-enunciate everything. Anette, well. She tried her best with what she had.
As an old Nightwish fan since the Tarja-Era your facial expressions during these three videos remind me of my own reactions. No disrespect to Annette, her new (own) stuff is cool, she seems to be home now (what she never was with Nightwish - just my opinion). But she had to fill the complete wrong shoes back then. Joining a band who had become famous with an operatic singer, a girl from the pop/rock genre playing together with musicians, who actually decided to create the darkest (and partwise hardest/most metal) album of their carreer.
Time after time that I watch your reaction videos I get confirmed that it was a good thing for me to jump your Nightwish train. You have an excellent way with words and your words speak my mind. I also commend you for the fact that you haven't touched the other 2 epic ones (The Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest show on Earth) yet, because it really is important to have a good sense of the band's history and their musical evolution as a result of it before really appreciating those two master pieces to their fullest. For the chronology of Nightwish's 3 front women I have only one word: KARMA !!!

I highly recommend a band called, "Epica". They are another symphonic metal band that you could add to your collection. A great idea listening to the three versions back to back. The song was obviously originally written for Tarja's voice and as I first heard it from the studio version I think that is how it should sound. Annette whilst a good singer (and her studio work has many of my favourite Nightwish tracks), did not perform well live with Nightwish - she did not have the vocal range to perform Tarja's songs as they should be heard. Floor on the other hand can certainly perform Tarja's songs as well as Tarja, and in many cases better. Rather than copy the way Tarja sang them she introduces changes to make them her own as shown in this performance. Having watched Floor's version of Ghost Love Score the original Tarja version is weak in comparison, the changes she has introduced like the closing notes make the song so much better.
The Tampere version is better. Listen to it when you have the chance. You won't regret it. Also from Tampere, and since you like Marko, check out "The Islander". He's on lead vocals, on that one. Also, subbed!
Just my opinion but Floor took Nightwish to a higher level. I was always been interested in the band but with Floor's vocals, I've become completely obsessed with Nightwish!
The problem with Anette not having any operatic side is that most of the old time Nightwish fan LOVED Nightwish partly BECAUSE of the Opera voice Tarja was using. I might be wrong, BUT if Anette had be the FIRST Nightwish singer... the band wouldn't have build the fan base they had already when Anette came in.
Yeah the song is great and Tarja and Annette version LIVE sound different, but here and elsewhere Floor has that emotional charge to the song that makes you feel the presentation especially LIVE. A really good trilogy and Ever Dream LIVE was also done by all 3 if you want another round of this. Kai Hahto the drummer came over from a great band Wintersun. I cannot understand how Floor can bring so much of emotions of her singging, and that is the reason why I love her. And I agree with - Team Open Spirit, check Live at Tampere 2015 version of this song. So so so good. I think slightly better than this one. Floor is phenomenal in whole Tamere show.
Sorry, but you should have taken the Tampere version - Floor is absolutely killing it - best version ever, and there are 7 other bands who have tried it. There are absolutely no one who can do what she does in the Tampere version. And you should also listen to The Islander from Tampere. It's Marco yhe bassist who is the prime singer with Floor coming in as backing. And then My Walden - also from Tampere concert. It clearly shows Nightwish's versatility - it's Troy who starts singing, and he plays the back pipe. And you should also take The Greatest Show on Earth from Tampere - 21 minutes - a journey you have never experienced before about the universe, from big bang and up to where we are destroying our selves. It's the famous scientists Richard Darking who is speaking.
If Tuomas really does write the song on the singer, it must've been hard to sing the song for the other two. Comparing is fine by me, everyone has their preference. I know which version I like. There's even no point to say which one.
This is just my opinion but to me Floor's version is my favourite, followed by Tarja's and unfortunately I don't like Anette's version. I just felt that even though Anette has a good voice, it just didn't suit all of Nightwish's songs with maybe one or two exceptions. Having said that I like what Anette is currently doing with the group The Dark Element specially their latest release "Songs The Night Sings". The whole Nightwish story is so....Nightwish. Time has shown us that no matter who is the singer, it's the compositions. I agree with you that all three singers have brought something to the table, certainly Tarja because she was the first. All the decades of bands from Deep Purple, Queen,yes ElP and many more that incorporated or attempted to use symphonic and operatic elements ended up in the hands of the master and his voices(Hmmm...sounds like Phantom of The opera). I wandered away during the second voice because...I really didn't like it. I listened to Sahara, and thought , I really like this song but I wish somebody else was singing it(had to get that off my chest, been bothering me for a while). I don't know what you may have already learned about the story, but there is some credence to the concept of Nightwish really wanting Floor after Tarja left, but she wasn't available. In my simple American terms Nightwish then suffered through a bad quarterback draft year. In retrospect I think Elize Ryd would have been a better choice but(it's said the band didn't feel she had the required experience). it also might help to know that Floor and Tarja are good friends(as it should being two of the best), it's also said that Tarja suggested Floor as her replacement(apocryphal). Annette did a a great job as a placeholder, certainly following Tarja had to be...intimidating, but now everything just seems so... right. Let me warn you first the band is weird or creepy haha but not to the point of Satanism. These ladies are really talented composers though. It's a combinations of growls/screams and soprano vocals.

I love your approach. It's positive. Yes, there were 3 eras of this band, each one important, and yes, it's an evolution to the present Nightwish. Each of us have preferences to one singer or another, but it is important to see the living band as a result of evolution in time.

Great review Olly. I like how you pick up on particular aspects of the performance. Some reviewers just have very little to say about the detail of the music, which makes you wonder why they do it! For me, Floor Jansen is an extraordinary vocalist -- a soprano with a huge vocal range. She has the ability to move effortlessly from a fragile and soulful sound, like molten-glass, through to full power operatic vocals. Check out the way she does this in this performance. She's incredibly relaxed in the first two verses and choruses. Each word is crystal clear, there's a beautiful melodic warmth to the timbre of her voice and her vibrato is clear and perfect. Then after the guitar solo and step-up key change, the song builds to a crescendo and this requires a more powerful vocal lead to match the tone of the song. Here she amps up the power and gives a commanding performance that is stunning. You can sense the passion she has for the music. She's giving 100% commitment to the song and rewarding the fans for showing up. Wow! With a voice like that, she has the world at her feet.
I totally agree with you. There is so much so hear in the song and the power of Floor, gives it life. She sings with clarity and perfection. I enjoy and love Nightwish.
The concert is in the Czech Republic, is a festival and is called Master of Rock.My favorite of the three is Floor.So much feeling and so much power in the voice.Divine.You can do the same with Ever dream, the same will come out.
I believe that Floor is the last piece....the last piece for the penultimate Nightwish....the instrument and passion to express Tuomas's vehicle of spirit.

I tried to explain evolution of Nightwish this way been a fan for over 20 years discovered a Nightwish by accident as I was strictly a metal head heard Tarja opera singer and I fell in love with the mix of metal and opera. Your spot on as Tarja left and Annette was brought in it became more rock/ pop Annette good singer but not a good fit for Nightwish as I expected more from the music:compositions of Touamas. It almost seemed he was trying to compose the music to Annette short comings and not reach out and explore Tarja vocal operatic range. The energy with the band was and fans was not at a high level. They were just playing music. Floor brought the energy up even higher for Touamas and the other band mates to again reach even higher expression and energy. Floor rejuvenated and in my opinion saved Nightwish. Great reaction and my favorite Nightwish song is always live and the next one👍

@@ollytherock7324 Actually, it was in 2015 but the DVD of the festival was released in 2016. I was lucky enough to be there right at the front. There and then Floor brought me back to Nightwish.
I love Tarja, and some of the early songs she recorded with them are amongst my favourites. She was also the singer the first time I saw Nightwish live so holds a special place for me, but there is no doubt that Floor is a more versatile singer (is there a more versatile singer than Floor alive today even?) and Floor has a beautiful quality to her voice that just tears at your heart. I've listened to Floor since her After Forever days (and was lucky enough to see her live with that band.) Her joining Nightwish is fantastic, and I love how she makes so many of the older songs (Tarja & Anette era) her own without making the originals any less beautiful when you listen to them, I just wish Tuomas could have rewritten the end of GLS whilst Tarja, was still with them, would love to hear her give it that big ending too!

When you hear Floor sing a Nightwish song you are hearing it the way Toumas wanted it to sound originally when he wrote the song regardless of which singer he wrote it for. All you have to do is watch his face in “She’s my Sin” 2013 and that will tell you.

We were there when this was performed at Tampere. We cried. That was something. And we have been there since Tarja. Tampere was... Everything...
Good job. I started listening to Nightwish in the late '90s, but was never a fan strictly because I really disliked Tarja. Only two songs from the Tarja era were on my playlist (Sleeping Sun and Walking in the Air), and both of these I loved in spite of Tarja. I once drove from Cleveland to Detroit with Sleeping Sun on repeat the whole way. Tarja's insistence on that heavy slow vibrato reminds me of all the French songs from the '60s and '70s where every song had to have the same stupid vibrato. The minute I heard Floor's version, Tarja's was replaced. I always felt that Tarja was much more concerned with the mechanics of singing at the expense of singing with any kind of emotion. I know many people like Tarja's version, some because it's more cold and clinical, but that's not why I listen to music. The best thing about Nightwish 'then' was that it introduced me to the whole female-fronted symphonic metal universe (After Forever, Within Temptation, The Gathering, Epica, Elis, Leaves' Eyes, Edenbridge, etc.) which I probably wouldn't have discovered without Nightwish. I listened to Nightwish sporadically with Anette, but only one song from that era ended on my playlist (Eva - and I pray that I can hear Floor sing that someday), but since I was very familiar with Floor from After Forever and Revamp, I immediately boarded the Nightwish train when she joined. Now I have 4 selections from Nightwish on my playlist, but they are the entire Wacken, Wembley, Tampere, and Bloodstock concerts, and I'm a happy guy.
I'm loving your journey into Nightwish - everybody has shared your emotions while discovering them, and I think that's why the reactions are so popular - it's like discovering them all over again.

So Floor has an advantage on songs like this, where a big dynamic range adds so much more to the performance.
Tarja’s version is awesome but that kind of operatic singing is really hard to sing softly since that style was originally meant to project above all else, as no mics existed when it was originated. So to the modern ear it seems less emotionally involving.
Annette makes some really interesting phrasing choices live; definitely putting her own spin on it, but ultimately it’s not quite as “Nightwishy” as the other two, even though the studio albums she did with them are as good any the band has done.
But the huge advantage Floor had when she did this song or any other Nightwish song, was her experience. She was already 5 years older when she joined Nightwish than Tarja was when she left. I think this was another 2 years later. And she had already been lead singer in 2 other significant bands for 15 years!
You clearly hear a performer connecting with the song, but you also hear her emotionally supercharging it with all the little details and dynamics only a seasoned pro can bring.
Floor has no "advantage" in this song, quite the opposite. You seem to forget a little detail: the song was written specifically for Tarja's voice. Tuomas always wrote with her vocal range in mind. Floor had to adapt to older material written for other singers with completely different vocal tone. It's not about microphones or age, the only "adavantage" Floor has is she's an amazing singer and she can turn any song into her own song and sound better than the original song (Beste Zangers is proof of that...).
I agree that’s her biggest advantage. I feel like her almost preternatural talent is a given at this point though. But given her ability to hear all the previous versions of this song as well as all the other old Nightwish songs, it’s no wonder that she can do killer versions of all of them
Best singer in the world!!! At least in metal. But she could choose any other genre and be a top singer!
I found Nightwish with Tarja, I lost them with Anette, and I found them again with Floor.
I started my music journey with metal in 1970. Bands like Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin etc. Bands which can now call classical metal bands. And then we got Anette... She just not fit to metal. She is good singer, but not metal. She have some really good Nightwish songs, ballad types and that one jazz song. Those she fits perfectly! And also to song Scaretale, that she made perfectly.
And then we got Floor, and my day brightened. She is perfect fit to Nightwish. Really match made in heaven. Music by Tuomas + Floor´s voice and ability use emotions = perfection.
Floor`s first concert with Nightwish was in Seattle 1.10.2012. (hmm, what a day, now is also 1.10.!). That was also in news (those afternoon newspapers), Floor came to continue show, cos Anette could not. And there was links to RUclips videos from that show. Very poor quality, I guess taken by phone. There could have been who ever singing or playing, sound quality was so poor. Anyway, visited in RUclips sometimes, looking if any better video exits.
Nihgtwish visited then Argentina, mid Dec 2012. And someone made so called multicamera video. Friends different locations in the hall, making film (phones?, or digicamera?) and someone made one film from those. It was published in Jan 2013. First time quite ok quality, not same than Nightwish do their owns. But anyway good. And I was watching it, not much moved whole 2h. Could not, it was just so mesmerizing. And then they reached Ghost Love Score..., and THAT PART!.There it was, instant feeling, Nightwish must get this woman as permanent member. She is awesome, amazing. I guess I looked that one small part 10 times in a row. Her voice was so magical. I guess there was my first Floorgasm, even that word came much later :D .
So, who I like most... :D
BTW. Please check Sleeping Sun from Tampere 2015. Maybe you could do extra reaction video from it : ) ?
I don´t know how to say this in English. But in Tampere there was a bridge coming out from stage. And when Tuomas start play his opening part to this song, Floor walked to that bridge. So she was singing it in the middle of audience! It was just awesome to see. And audio is better than this Czech video.

I can see that for sure. This song was written with Tarja voice. One thing I love is that Tuomas always writes with the lead singer in his mind. Unlike Tarja or Annette that are in one type of music background. Floor seems to be more versatile, would you agree with that. I for one agree with this song that Tarja was the right person for the song.
If you listen to the softer parts of the song Floors voice is so much more refined than Tarjas. Only flaw is the sudden switch to the louder part, her introduction of to the guitarpart is heavenly.

Floor's version just sounds... *right* somehow. Hers is my favourite version, followed by Tarja's version from the early years of the band when she still had more brassy warmth in her voice and didn't over-enunciate everything. Anette, well. She tried her best with what she had.

As an old Nightwish fan since the Tarja-Era your facial expressions during these three videos remind me of my own reactions.
No disrespect to Annette, her new (own) stuff is cool, she seems to be home now (what she never was with Nightwish - just my opinion). But she had to fill the complete wrong shoes back then. Joining a band who had become famous with an operatic singer, a girl from the pop/rock genre playing together with musicians, who actually decided to create the darkest (and partwise hardest/most metal) album of their carreer.

Time after time that I watch your reaction videos I get confirmed that it was a good thing for me to jump your Nightwish train. You have an excellent way with words and your words speak my mind. I also commend you for the fact that you haven't touched the other 2 epic ones (The Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest show on Earth) yet, because it really is important to have a good sense of the band's history and their musical evolution as a result of it before really appreciating those two master pieces to their fullest. For the chronology of Nightwish's 3 front women I have only one word: KARMA !!!

A great idea listening to the three versions back to back. The song was obviously originally written for Tarja's voice and as I first heard it from the studio version I think that is how it should sound. Annette whilst a good singer (and her studio work has many of my favourite Nightwish tracks), did not perform well live with Nightwish - she did not have the vocal range to perform Tarja's songs as they should be heard. Floor on the other hand can certainly perform Tarja's songs as well as Tarja, and in many cases better. Rather than copy the way Tarja sang them she introduces changes to make them her own as shown in this performance. Having watched Floor's version of Ghost Love Score the original Tarja version is weak in comparison, the changes she has introduced like the closing notes make the song so much better.
The Tampere version is better. Listen to it when you have the chance. You won't regret it.
Also from Tampere, and since you like Marko, check out "The Islander". He's on lead vocals, on that one.

Just my opinion but Floor took Nightwish to a higher level. I was always been interested in the band but with Floor's vocals, I've become completely obsessed with Nightwish!
Same here and i love how floor really kept the dream that Tuomas had.
The problem with Anette not having any operatic side is that most of the old time Nightwish fan LOVED Nightwish partly BECAUSE of the Opera voice Tarja was using. I might be wrong, BUT if Anette had be the FIRST Nightwish singer... the band wouldn't have build the fan base they had already when Anette came in.
Yeah the song is great and Tarja and Annette version LIVE sound different, but here and elsewhere Floor has that emotional charge to the song that makes you feel the presentation especially LIVE. A really good trilogy and Ever Dream LIVE was also done by all 3 if you want another round of this.
Kai Hahto the drummer came over from a great band Wintersun. If you want to hear the double bass he does check out Sons of Winter and Starts LIVE at Sonic Pump Studios (ruclips.net/video/Tl5T-glTdXw/видео.html) the harmony of the vocals and guitars are also amazing with the group, Jari the vocalist had TB so only has 75% or so lung capacity!!!

I cannot understand how Floor can bring so much of emotions of her singging, and that is the reason why I love her. And I agree with - Team Open Spirit, check Live at Tampere 2015 version of this song. So so so good. I think slightly better than this one. Floor is phenomenal in whole Tamere show.

Sorry, but you should have taken the Tampere version - Floor is absolutely killing it - best version ever, and there are 7 other bands who have tried it. There are absolutely no one who can do what she does in the Tampere version.
And you should also listen to The Islander from Tampere. It's Marco yhe bassist who is the prime singer with Floor coming in as backing.
And then My Walden - also from Tampere concert. It clearly shows Nightwish's versatility - it's Troy who starts singing, and he plays the back pipe.
And you should also take The Greatest Show on Earth from Tampere - 21 minutes - a journey you have never experienced before about the universe, from big bang and up to where we are destroying our selves. It's the famous scientists Richard Darking who is speaking.

If Tuomas really does write the song on the singer, it must've been hard to sing the song for the other two. Comparing is fine by me, everyone has their preference. I know which version I like. There's even no point to say which one.

This is just my opinion but to me Floor's version is my favourite, followed by Tarja's and unfortunately I don't like Anette's version. I just felt that even though Anette has a good voice, it just didn't suit all of Nightwish's songs with maybe one or two exceptions. Having said that I like what Anette is currently doing with the group The Dark Element specially their latest release "Songs The Night Sings". The whole Nightwish story is so....Nightwish. Time has shown us that no matter who is the singer, it's the compositions. I agree with you that all three singers have brought something to the table, certainly Tarja because she was the first. All the decades of bands from Deep Purple, Queen,yes ElP and many more that incorporated or attempted to use symphonic and operatic elements ended up in the hands of the master and his voices(Hmmm...sounds like Phantom of The opera). I wandered away during the second voice because...I really didn't like it. I listened to Sahara, and thought , I really like this song but I wish somebody else was singing it(had to get that off my chest, been bothering me for a while). I don't know what you may have already learned about the story, but there is some credence to the concept of Nightwish really wanting Floor after Tarja left, but she wasn't available. In my simple American terms Nightwish then suffered through a bad quarterback draft year. In retrospect I think Elize Ryd would have been a better choice but(it's said the band didn't feel she had the required experience). it also might help to know that Floor and Tarja are good friends(as it should being two of the best), it's also said that Tarja suggested Floor as her replacement(apocryphal). Annette did a a great job as a placeholder, certainly following Tarja had to be...intimidating, but now everything just seems so... right. The master is now free to take us wherever he wants.....can't wait much longer...new album soon....please. Also, if you've read this far, have you checked out Unleash The Archers?
