Hello Michael, very good genuine series. No hype type of channel, just good honest car building fun. So, thank you for that. - Hey, I was thinking that you may want to incorporate into your series the cost of doing a restoration like this. We know the car cost you $500 and the control arms cost you $500 from eBay, but what about the rest of the items you're going to be putting into the car? Items such as the floor pan, the seats, the dash, the engine rebuild on a Porsche, the paint job on a Porsche (and yes... please do paint it.). All those will be huge costs and I think the viewers here would like to know what kind of money it costs to bring a car like this back to life. -- I know I would. -- Thank you for your hard work and dedication.
I remember those Targas. I used to work at Porsche 1972/74. It's likely that I stamped the engine number into the crankcase (block) and a bunch of other stuff. That car is definitely a keeper. The Old ones have a beauty that the modern ones lack. They had a rolling road at the works. The mechanics would run the cars at top speed on the road. You could stand next to them an get an ear full of the engine noise. Awesome. Enjoy.
Just a suggestion, treat the rust on those solid bars, panels & support structure of chassis adjacent to the floor with some rust removal chemicals and coat them before finishing of floor welding. For future proofing, since you are putting so much love and effort into restoration.
I’m really enjoying the build. I’m no safety nanny but please use some basics like ear muffs and dust mask. I never bothered when I was your age and now my most commonly used four letter word is “WHAT”. It’s extremely frustrating. God knows what’s in my lungs. Anyway, looking forward to the next episode. Cheers, Stuart 🇦🇺
Dude, I've just made pretty much the same comment before reading yours! I wish I'd used ear defenders and masks - can't undo the damage but I don't like seeing the next generation make the same mistakes.
I was going to write something very similar.. one day the ringing in my ears decided to stay..from angle grinding amongst other things. but here we are. Great project nontheless!
Frans Terhorst. Hey Frans, same here! I have a low pitched hiss and a high pitched squeal and my world is never quiet now. The quieter the surroundings the louder the noise in my ears.
@@scroungasworkshop4663 Hi Stuart, As an audiologist, I know that this is related to a hearing loss. If you get a really good set of hearing aids such as the Oticon OPN s1 the tinitus will fade into the background when you can hear normally again.
Thanks for sharing the video update on the 911 Targa build! I appreciate your POSITIVE outlook, great work ethic, and friendly "onscreen" personality. Thanks to you and other RUclipsrs, I am picking up my first project car next week. Keep up the good work!!!
Great job. Keep up the good work. It is fun to see this job come along. Not like the old school car shows I once laughed at. You will regret not doing the fuel lines and cables in the tunnel before finishing the floor.
Tunnel looked a bit ropey on the drivers side needed a clean up and rust proofing looks like it's had a front passenger side impact from underneath. 😅 Someone put it in a ditch.
Good on you ~ I really admire people who just get in there and "have a go" ~ and more often than not are handsomely rewarded with wonderful results. Greetings from Adelaide, South Australia.
Hello from Austria, the country in which the first Porsche was built. great restoration. and you are very personable. I really enjoy it ... I think that's what RUclips is for. Thx Martin
When I weld panels together, I find it easy to drill a 1/8" hole thru both panels, then a 1/4" hole in the 'new' panel. When welding, start by filling the 1/8" hole on the inside..by the time you work your way out, in circles, you have plenty of heat and penetration. Minimal grinding because it will lay flat...that is if your welder is set up right! Goodluck and have fun!
Quick tip, when drilling spot welds with the HF spot weld cutter, wedge a thick scraper between the two panels. This will avoid you drilling thru both panels due to the pressure..once thru the weld, it will pop loose and leave you less to fill when welding it back up. Hope this helps!
Sounds similar to My method. but I use a centerdrill and drill tru boath peices in one moment. The tip is 3mm and then expands conical up to round about6mm. I made sure everything that might possibly need to be messed with was still easily removal with the pans in! 🙂 Honestly the cables all move freely and the brake line looks brand new new! May end up just pulling a new fuel line thru in the future is all! 😊 Thanks!
Morning Michale from a very wet uk 🇬🇧 Great update on the 911 👍🏻 Glad you've an understanding wife working on her kitchen table lol 😂 It's going to a great year watching you put this together with other projects 😄 I know your working out in the sticks but use a little PPE please for your own good and the younger viewers 👍🏻 Cheers Stevie 😎🇬🇧
Yay! Another video! If hunting for a replacement/parts distributor, make sure it's for the 2.7, as I think the later 3-litre SC distributors rotate in the opposite direction from this.
You do need to take care though, the smell of old oil and grease might linger and the detergent can damage aluminium. Also if caught in the process you get to find out who the dishwasher actually belongs to.
So that's what it's called! I've fixed cars, rebuilt houses, repaired furniture, designed tools and knives, and who knows what-not using CAD technology. I also usually carry a rock or two in my toolboxes, a flat rounded smooth one and one with a good hammer-face . I've used um too.
This is brilliant stuff. It was great watching how you did the floor pan. It will be great to see the car on it’s wheels again when you’ve finished the floor
I would bet the cost of having the floor pans put in at a Porsche restoration facility would just about amount to enough to make restoring the car a total waste of money. I often see cars that have been restored at some restoration facility for sale at about 1/4 the cost of the restoration. I wonder how many people walked by the car you have as it sat at the salvage yard and wished they could restore it? Having the courage to jump in and start shows me that you will do well with it and come out with a very presentable product.
Honestly most all of them work freely and the brake line is like new 🙂 Only thing I may mess with in the future is the fuel line but I made sure I had easy access to pull a new one thru if I needed to! Thanks! 😊
I like the way you are doing things Mike!im mike also but most guys leave a lot of the original metal you removed it that’s what I like!! How you use the brand new piece more than a lot of other guys that leave as much of the old stuff!!! Why leave the old stuff when you have brand new metal?!!! 🙏👍👌💪✌️great job
Some great work going on there Michael. Huge respect from this side of The Pond mate. Few people really understand the hours of grinding and cutting it takes to clear the old cr@p off a rotten bodyshell. But I have said before please resist the urge to get that body 'onto its wheels'. I know its tempting but you have it secure in a great timber rig so just get all the underside 100% right, all threads tapped out, joints sealed and painted with all the pipes where they should be. THEN rotate it to do the rest. Patience Michael! I am not sure where the fuel pipes run in that car or if they are plastic or rubber but do please check where you have welded to make sure you haven't caught anything in that central tunnel. Way to go Michael ...
Thank you! We’ll be sure it’s wrapped up good before we lay it over! I was sure to be careful around the fuel lines, it uses the plastic ones. May end up pulling a steel line thru in the near future instead. 🙂
Fair play to your wife Michael if mine caught me stripping down a crusty old distributor on the kitchen work surface she’d probably kick my arse (ass) all around the room😂 Great work on the Porsche floor and amazing how well the surrounding structure is preserved!
In the future if you have an old lawn mower blade you can cut it in half ,and that will give you 2 spot weld removers. After you drill them ,and you run into 1 that gives you a hard time just slide it in between the body panels ,and use a hammer to slide it across to break the last of the spot weld.
Glad to hear you are all good & ready for action lol, like most of your viewers I would say wear a mask, as that stuff you are grinding off has been on their for years, keep up the great wk👍
It doesn’t need to be perfect your working on a car that you have never worked on before and when it’s all done and your cruising you will appreciate it more.
Nice work with the angle grinder, mate. You have a deftness with tools that is pleasing to watch and is the thing that separates you from many of the other channels. Rather watch a man who is good at his trade, than good at presenting to camera - I'm sure that that'll come along too ;-))
Budget Buildz no problem it’s getting one step closer to being finished there still a lot to do but can’t wait to see you and your family/friend’s enjoying it and hear the first start up when it’s done 👍
Great video, nice to see the Porsche getting worked on again, it's what made me subscribe to you channel.. can't wait to see more.....😉👍👌🏴🏴
Thanks!
No need to apologise for not being perfect, you have the courage to have a go, and that is all that is needed on a restoration of this complexity. 🎉🎉🎉
at 63 I don't excited about much but I am excited about seeing this one done
Usually when you see a project of this optimistic magnitude they never come to fruition. It's awesome seeing you get after it and getting it done!

Love your car jig that is COOL were there is a will there is a way vary professional work that Porsche is going to be sweet
Thanks! 😊
Fair play to your wife Michael if mine caught me stripping down a crusty old distributor on the kitchen work surface she’d probably kick my arse (ass) all around the room😂 Great work on the Porsche floor and amazing how well the surrounding structure is preserved!
Yeah she was like: "Have fun with that haha!" What a great moment.
😂😂😂😂😂
In the future if you have an old lawn mower blade you can cut it in half ,and that will give you 2 spot weld removers. After you drill them ,and you run into 1 that gives you a hard time just slide it in between the body panels ,and use a hammer to slide it across to break the last of the spot weld.
Thanks for the suggestion! Will have to give that a try 👍🏻
Nice progress! Keep a steady pace and it will all come together quite soon.
Thank you! 😊
Try some spot weld cutters - I bought mine off eBay cheap. I was amazed how well they worked and how much less panel damage I had
Cool I’ll check them out! Thanks for the suggestion!
Glad to hear you are all good & ready for action lol, like most of your viewers I would say wear a mask, as that stuff you are grinding off has been on their for years, keep up the great wk👍
Absolutely! Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying! 😊
Your awesome man
You do a great job
You make us feel building it
Thank you so much for the kind words! 😊
This restoration is awesome. The car is looking very good, can wait to see it soon back on the road.
Good Job!
Thank you! 😊
It doesn’t need to be perfect your working on a car that you have never worked on before and when it’s all done and your cruising you will appreciate it more.
You’re right about that! 😊
love watching this porsche rebuild!! Greetings from Holland!
Glad you’re enjoying!! 😊😊
Loved the new Porsche content! Excellent to see your rust removal and welding work.
Thank you! 😊
Your doing a fantastic job with the floor and have a look for weld through primer
Thank you! 😊 I used some, sorry forgot to mention that!
Nice work with the angle grinder, mate. You have a deftness with tools that is pleasing to watch and is the thing that separates you from many of the other channels. Rather watch a man who is good at his trade, than good at presenting to camera - I'm sure that that'll come along too ;-))
Thanks so much! 😊
It’s coming along and it bet it feels amazing to have that floor on brilliant work thanks for content
It sure does! Thank you! 😊
Budget Buildz no problem it’s getting one step closer to being finished there still a lot to do but can’t wait to see you and your family/friend’s enjoying it and hear the first start up when it’s done 👍
Nice work on the floor pans, amateur or not, still good work. Looking forward to the rest of this build
