Interesting story about this song. The music was originally written and performed by Mike Campbell as a demo for Tom Petty. One night, Nicks was at Petty's house to pick up a demo of Campbell's songs that Petty had rejected. Stevie picked up the wrong cassette which had this song on it. Stevie liked the music and wrote the lyrics to Oh My Love for it and began recording it with Fleetwood Mac. She was so happy with how it sounded that she called Tom to let him listen to it, only to be met with Petty screaming at her through the phone that she stole his song. Nicks then had to inform the other members of Fleetwood Mac that they had to stop recording the song because she had unintentionally stolen it from Tom Petty. She even went so far as to erase the tape of the incomplete Fleetwood Mac version. However, she kept her lyrics. Petty then recorded his lyrics over the Campbell demo for a little tune entitled Runaway Trains. You might have heard of it. Sometime later, Nicks came across the lyrics and sat down at a piano and created her own composition for it, which eventually became the song she released on The Other Side Of The Mirror. So the song went from Mike Campbell demo to Fleetwood Mac recording to Tom Petty's Runway Trains, and finally to Stevie Nick's Oh My Baby. faroutmagazine.co.uk/stevie-nicks-tom-petty-furious-reaction-to-stolen-song/
This is partially wrong. The original Ooh My Love music appears in the deluxe Tango In The Night unreleased version of Ooh My Love. Stevie didn't erase anything, because it appears on the deluxe. She completely redid the composition for The Other Side Of The Mirror, keeping the few lyrics she used with Fleetwood Mac, but added more and a bridge. All done with the help of Rick Nowels.
@@GothicTrunk Thanks for the correction. I was basing the info about her erasing the recording of the Fleetwood Mac version on the article that I linked to at the end of my comment. I'm not sure whether the writer just added that or if Nicks just misspoke.
Thank you for posting this; I almost forgot this great song! I love this one because I can feel full power and pure feelings. Love it. Big hug Stevie; I love you! xx
BUT THE ENDING OF THE OTHER VERSION: OOH BABY~BABY~~NO ONE, CAN TAKE YOU AWAY FROM ME~NO~NO ONE: IT CAN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT. BUT THIS VERSE WAS GOOD. THIS SONG HAS GOT TO BE ANOTHER ONE ABOUT LINSEY~~~`
