    I had the chance to compare the Atlas Orion to the Laowa Proteus 45mm amber version. A real competitor to other lenses in this category especially for this price!

    Love the proteus lens more. Seems to have way better more natural skin tones. Would love to get one of those beasts. I wonder how consistent the colors are from lens to lens. I trust that laowa has that under control but lens color shifts are definitely common in cine lens sets. Great review

    Its like the Proteus anamorpchics harder in every specific area but then when you have the comparisons the orion always seems so much more pleasant.

      It’s very hard to to tell. There is also the over all look and feel you’re right. I like the bokeh in the Proteus a lot more because it’s very oval and not so edgy. But the flairs on the Orions are more pleasant in my eyes. But if you consider the price points it gets even harder.😬

    Also, I was looking for the Proteus vs. the Atlas Mercurys, since they're pretty close in price but I never expected them to look this great compared to the Orion, which are much more expensive.

    • @Allinfilmmaker
      @Allinfilmmaker  Год назад

      Yes exactly neither on the Proteus as well not on the Orion. Around 05:25 you see the sensor coverage. It is enough to work with the FF sensor because you have to crop the sides anyway with the 16:9 sensor. If you need you can use clear image zoom to get more coverage.

    Hmm, next to Atlas Orion I don't like how Laowa looks at all. Kind of dull, artificial looking horizontal flare and also feels like at close focus the squeeze ration changes to something like 1.5x . The last one is kind of a bummer because what I've always loved about anamorphics is that they make people look slimmer in the frame

    Interesting. There’s a mention of CA on the Proteus but not the Orion but in the video by FilmRiot there was quite clearly a lot of CA on the Orion and NOT the proteus. That was against a black and white focus chart. Probably worth checking that again..

    What do you think a budget camera can work well with this lens? Of all the options, I am currently considering only the canon r6 mark ii, because it can shoot video in 6k.

    • @Allinfilmmaker
      @Allinfilmmaker  Год назад +2

      Hmm depends on your exact budget. And what else you want to shoot with it? Something like a Black magic 6k will work too. Its „cheap“ but there is no usable autofocus. Higher resolutions than 4k are only important if you have to deliver a final 4k file. I used it with the FX6 so it’s also only a 4k camera. So it really depends what else you want to do with the camera.

    • @badzombie3942

      @@Allinfilmmaker Yes, I would like the final 4k. Although perhaps this is not important, and Sony Alpha a7 IV is suitable here.

      @@badzombie3942 sorry for the delay! Yeah i am mostly a sony shooter so i can’t give a lot of different inputs on other brands. I use also a A7IV and i think with that one you can work too. But there are a lot of things to consider if you are unsure about the right camera. Can give you only some factors which you have to choose at the end.
      Which color sience you prefer?
      Which resolusion you need?
      Which maximal framerate?
      You need a good Ibis?
      What glass you want to shoot with? Also PL mount?
      What kind of memory cards you have to buy when you get the cam and how expensive is it?
      You need the possibility to shoot in RAW?
      Haha and a lot more.
      If i had to buy a new budget cam today i probably would go with the A7IV.
      Hope this helped you✌🏼
