Improve Pelvic Floor With Posture

  • How we hold ourselves can change the amount of pressure down on our pelvic floor. Our abdominal muscles and even our ribcage position can put small (or sometimes large) amounts of pressure down, which can be more than the pelvic floor can handle. This is a common issue with prolapse, and even bladder leaking.
If we can work on changing that pressure, then we can work on being able to help the pelvic floor from the top down!
Watch the video to see my recommendations for troubleshooting posture and learn how to reduce pressure on the pelvic floor.

I am always arching my back to "stand up straight". This was very helpful!

Thank you so much! This has me standing and sitting tall all day. What a great way to fix my posture!

Really well explained and makes me realise why I and and so many others have pelvic floor issues. If only we were taught at an earlier age what the impact of our postures create in later life.

Hello Sarah, when I elongate spine like this I can't breath correctly 360. I feel shortness in my breath and my belly pooch out. Why is that?

Thank you for the comment - I am not a 100% sure. Its hard to know without seeing you move! I would find someone to work with you in person! Follow this link to find someone to work with you in person.

Thank you for this ❤ please would you have any advice for how to sit with a hypertonic pelvic floor? My PT says standing or lying down as mucj as possible is best - avoid sitting if i can - but i work in an office so this is hard!

A tight pelvic floor is hard! I would find someone who has taken the PCES course to hopefully get you functional.

A great cue that works for me is a string lifting my chest up. I find the cue string on the crown of the head makes me lengthen from the back however I feel gently doing this cue gives a slight forward lean bias which allows me to lengthen from the back. Does this cue sound correct or have you used it before? Thanks.

I will use a stacking cue like that as well - more like sternum over pubic bone - it sounds like your cueing is similar!
