    I've been doing both for several years now and don't see a problem. They just complement each other in my sports routine. There is no need to limit yourself to one activity if you do not want to become a pro-athlete in one area. It is simply important to arrange the programming properly, logically and according to your capacity during the week. After all, the most important thing is that those activities bring you joy and satisfaction, without overthinking everything.

    • @sportybeth
      @sportybeth  8 дней назад

      Yeeees totally agree, absolutely no need to limit yourself to one sport and adding in some HYROX training overcomes that “high intensity all the time with no zone 3” problem too so it’s a win win.
      Overthinking however.. I’m a pro 😂. I actually enjoy deeply thinking about things. It’s how I have made my life into something I really enjoy.

    So a 55 minute workout for doubles Hyrox is more anaerobic ? Are you sure ? Considering there’s 8km of running, 1km of rowing and 1 km of ski-erg.

    • @sportybeth
      @sportybeth  7 дней назад

      Yes it’s on-off so work/rest your heart rate goes up into anerobic zones and then back down in between. But don’t worry I’ve got a video coming out on that exact topic next week.
      It’s like Matt chan was saying about his endurance race he had to stop start. My original HYROX was all zone 4 and zone 5 because I had to do similar, go fast and then go slow because that’s how my body adapted with CrossFit I had no aerobic base.

    I've recently become convinced that Zone 2 cardio has tremendous benefits to healthspan and being able to do the things I want as I age. Like you, I like going on long walks/hikes over different terrains and I want to be able to do that for as long as I can.
    It seems like Hyrox is popularizing Zone 2 training by making it exciting and necessary for being competitive in the sport.

    • @sportybeth

    I'm 62 and have done strength training since my teens. It is my first live. But I've also done sports like basketball, volleyball, and baseball in my youth, and skiing, triathlon, trail running and armored combat as an adult. When CrossFit came around I picked up various aspects to add to my training to be a more well rounded athlete. HIITs, AMRAPs, and EMOMs can be great adds. That being said, I think being a hybrid athlete is better for long term fitness. I love your videos, btw, ignore the hypercritical comments and just do what you do.

      that's BS. We don't know anything about PCOs. Women are advised to do what feels right for them. The energy systems our body utilizes most efficiently change over the cycle, and yes, if you want to you can adapt your training accordingly. But saying only do low intensity is straight up false. High cortisol is nothing to be afraid off, unless it becomes chronic. Stress is good!

      I would never cite it as a legitimate scientific source without finding the paper it came from no. But I did use it in a way it absolutely can be used, to gather information from multiple sources to come up with a general consensus. Because it has access to all of the information currently available online. It’s also really good at reasoning and combining information which is what it did here. CrossFit can’t possibly meet criteria for zone 2 and 3 because it’s too short and longer workouts are too muscular endurance focused. But like I said feel free to fact check me and come back here and leave your findings.

      I picked a picture of me doing CrossFit recently. But to be fair my body shape has changed a fair amount since quitting CrossFit and also adding in running.
      As for “you used to be in shape” I was skinny but not healthy I had an eating disorder. My resting heart rate was higher than it is now. You shouldn’t celebrate people’s bodies when they were sick with eating disorders and actively purging their food or binging then starving themselves. Why would I use an image of myself then unless i was talking about my ED history. My body has looked lots of different ways doing CrossFit I’ve done it for 9 years.

    I think this is a fascinating and timely topic, and one that will continue to grow traction. Anyone who reacts defensively about CrossFit, that's on them, that's their hangup. You are being super clear that you come from a background of loving and investing a ton of time and energy in CrossFit training. You are not bashing the sport. CrossFit is incredibly new (Hyrox even more so!) in the grand scheme of things; these are programs that have been around for a blip of time within the realm of athletics, and I think it's natural for some hype to run it's course with something like CrossFit, where some time has passed and perhaps people are noticing some holes or issues, especially when it's a very "all-in", insular culture. Doesn’t mean there won't still be people who love it and swear by it. The points you bring up about aerobic training etc., I think with longevity being a huge point of discussion now, and running booming in popularity, Hyrox have really crafted something poised to explode because it encompasses a well-rounded variety of activities and is so inclusive. Personally, I find this very exciting. Overall, I find a lot of what you're saying highly relatable, especially the rest piece. That may be the biggest challenge of all! At the end of the day, we have to remember that what might be favourable for a mid-20s or 30s man may not be ideal training for a mid-30s or 40s woman/mother, and it's essential that we maintain awareness of how all these activites are stressors that compound with life's existing stressors, and sometimes that can amount to too much of one thing. Life maintains many seasons and it's ok to expand and flow, trying new things! Those who love CrossFit and don't want to stray can keep doing what they're doing if it works for them and they feel content and strong. Just wanted to share that there is nothing wrong with talking about this and anyone who's giving you flack is wasting their time! Do we really want to be doing things without questioning them, and checking in to see whether they're still serving us as we intended?? I think this is a healthy conversation to have!

    I would recommend listening to Dr Stacey Sims on longevity for women. Bro advice doesn’t apply to women over 40. Older women have a lot to gain from a mix of lifting heavy shit, sprints and plyometrics. Those recommended amounts of weight are all based on men - you as a 33 year old woman will be given recommendations based off of sedentary over 50 year old men.

      So you’re literally the exact kind of person I was talking about at the start of the video. What gives you the right to tell me to not talk about something that has been a big part of my life for the last 9 years? I still watch the sport, I still listen to the podcasts and I was still doing it once a week up until a few weeks ago. After HYROX I’ll probably get a block membership of 10 so I can drop in and do sessions as I like because I still love and enjoy the sport. But I have every right to talk about why the methodology isn’t currently right for my goals and the issues with it to hopefully stop others making the same mistake. Maybe someone will see this and just make sure they do some zone 3 and 2 as well as CrossFit like Matt chan was saying.
      I’d love to know why you care so much what I discuss? If it was F45 or orange theory I’m sure there would be no issue. Even if it was Olympic weightlifting which I have discussed at length why I don’t solely do that anymore… or powerlifting… or strongwomen, or triathlon. But if I say why I don’t do CrossFit for virtually the same reasons people get so mad. It’s weird.
