I guess he thought Gukesh would put forward his hand for a handshake coz that's basic courtesy when he shakes hands with one he'd come forward to shake hands with the other podium holder as well. But I guess Gukesh just didn't think that deep especially after such a hectic few days. You could see Ian's expression though, it was like "Oh! You won't shake hands with me huh..." And I mean why wouldn't he, when he was shaking hands with everyone only to stop before Ian. Ik he's only just 17 but the maturity he has shown on so many occasions, this is a basic thing.

I mean I absolutely understand why they behaved like that. How do you answer the question, “which person you had the best match against?” or “what best conversation you had with a foreign player?”
I mean I would also give a diplomatic answer like, ever match was good, or I loved them all.
I understand that they don't wanna disappoint or offend anyone, we also forget the human element in all this, they maybe players and celebs but they're also human.

Completely wrong take. These questions were a terrible idea. Its almost a disrespect to the kind of work that the players put in for an event like this and the dejection that comes after failing to take the top spot. The whole "ambassadors of the game" is a bad take and only makes sense if you ignore what goes into a tournament like this.
"Describe the candidates in one word", "Whose games did you enjoy the most" "Most interesting conversation", "If candidates was a movie what would the title be"? Seriously? A day after the end of 14 rounds of classical games, each of which takes anywhere from 3 to 6 hours? Even pragg who was in a relatively jovial mood was stunned by the "did you pick up any canadian slangs" .. probably thinking like .. lady .. do you think this thing is a joke where we barely get to sleep enough and are constantly putting our time and energy to prep .. you think I am out hanging with locals learning slangs?
Vidit, Gukesh, Humpy, Nurgyul had decent answers sure .. but these are also people who either finished on a high, or knew early enough that the tournament was over for them and had had multiple days to come to terms with it.

@@Pjvk18 Wise man, tell me one thing...wht shows ur mentality level...ur words! Not ur attire, ur money & blah blah. So this is the answer of ur 1st question.
Now...imagine & put yourself in his place (which u can't do ever in reality I guess).
Guy failed at multiple instances to b world champion & almost zero hope among these emerging ultra strong youngsters. I guess he has been the most unfortunate loser of this WCC cycle.
So even if he is frustrated on himself & still standing there, what wud u expect him to do?? Fake cheer & clap too? No he is very honest in his behaviour.
Magnus, just after loosing much less important games, didn't appear in press conferences at multiple instances. And yet you all lick his feet.
Ian is 10 times more sport than Magnus...but fact is You all loosers search for easy targets to unleash your frustration. And Ian is the easiest just bcoz he is expressive.

@@TheRealGigaCat well...again u shown small mentality...In online olympiad, put urself in place of Russia...you'd have felt the same. Be noted, if Russia wud hv protested against this decision than India probably wud not become joint champion. I m sure if USA was in place of India, Russia never wud have agreed on this decision. But for India they have brotherly feeling. Kramnik was the 1st one among elites, who shown affection & appreciation towards Anand, otherwise America & other western countries just don't like Indians to dominate in any field.
Let alone chess, Russia always stood by India after independence that's why we r here today in 2024.
Ian, he is an impulsive guy but not a bad one at all. I've noticed his good side many times...like his blitz game vs Hari, he didn't complain to arbiter...otherwise it wud have costed Hari that game.
Magnus' behaviour was very bad with Anand ji after defeating him in 2013....but Nepo paid utmost respect to Anand ji on many occasions. Russians are honest in their behaviour & purer at heart in comparison to many western countries.
