This was lovely. It's a joy getting to meet Koneru, too, whom we've seen in the women's elite for ages but only as pictures and names. She always looks so stern and intense in pictures of her playing, and is such a beast at the board, that I was a little surprised she seemed so warm and relaxed here. I love the fact that Vishy maintained the connection with his motherland. He never became overly eurocentric. As a result, an entire generation of young Indian players have been influenced by him, and honor him in such a major way, that has allowed them to appreciate his effort.

If anything Chess currently has a Indian/Russian dominance in terms of homegrown talent (a bunch of Russian players changed federation after war though like Kosteniuk, Alekssenko, Fedoseev and some not so strong players too. A similar brain drain was also seen after USSR's collapse.

fabiano literally was born in the US and hikaru moved here when he was just 2 years old. The US is a country founded on immigration especially for better opportunities. Nonetheless, immigrants are Americans through and through.
