I just binge-watched your whole series. You did an amazing job on explaining and detailing the process. I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to put these out. It's made me feel much more confident in getting into trapping.
So interesting man. I like the way you walk us through the steps & your in absolute no rush. I've been watching your videos for over 1 hour straight, awesome!!
Great video and information, one question what size of board do you use to dry your red foxes on ? Looking to get started and a plenty full supply of foxes
Well I watched it for the second time, seen the fur go on the board, like to see it come off the board for the market and how you bag yours??? Keep us posted
I am going to be selling my hides to NAFA as well, and I have a couple questions about your coyote stretchers.I am using wire stretchers for the the time being and want to make up some split boards. Do you plain down the 1x4s to 5/8 since they're only an 1/8 inch off. And the NAFA specs show a simple rounded shape leading up to the nose. Your boards appear to have a double curve, one in the shoulder area, curving inward at the neck, and then back out at the head area. What made you choose this design, and where does it come from? Sorry for such a long comment. Great video.
Matt Mings I dont worry about planeing down the boards. you won't see that in a fur out critter. the curve looks worse on camera than it does in person, i came up with it to better fit the yotes in my area, it also enhances the mane area a little bit. if your selling to nafa go with there specs.
another great video. should make a video to sell I would buy it. Its great to see a youngster with so much passion for what he or she does. Thanks again
You mentioned you might do a video about making some things from the furs you didn't send to the auction. If you have, what are the titles so I can watch them. By the way, the presentation in your videos is great !
How do you keep the hair from slipping if you're not salting or treating with some kind of tanning formula? Is tanning totally different than preparing for fur sale and if so how do you keep it from rotting? Thanks for your videos man, been learning a lot from you!
Great videos brother. I live in Louisiana and I'm really getting interested in fur trapping. My question is how or what do I need to do in order to dry my furs down here in the deep South. It's not always cool down here during trapping season. How do I keep my furs from spoiling when I hang them. I only have a garage to hang my furs and a 50° - 60° temp might not always be possible. What are my options? Thanks for the info?
thanks for the videos I'm getting back into trapping and was looking for a refresher videos and I did have a question are coyotes the only one that's fur out when finished. thanks for the videos and good luck trapping
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us, sir. When i hang my fox pelt for drying, the fur and skin side gets realy wet, what should i do to stop that from happining because i want my pelt to get dry not wet:)
You sure you can skin griz pilgrim lmao. Enjoyed this alot I just started tapping them live to sale The the fox Penn's but I wanna tan some hides on my own and make some cool stuff out of them. This was extremely helpful and to the point. You got my like.
Do these methods translate well to reptiles? Or is that the dumbest ass question you ever heard? I got a chicken snake with a lawn implement. The rifle sling came out pretty good. I just wonder if a wash and dry cycle would have made things easier.
I really enjoyed this, It's interesting to hear all the questions ....it was a nice blend of things I haven't thought to ask and things you've already covered :) ...... I do like to ask a dumb question at least every other month, so you might have to do a part 2
Watch you beaver handling series and the follow up q&a. Well done. Sure encouraged me to pick up beaver again. It just got too messy… fat everywhere. You have a very smooth process, well thought out. Thanks for putting in the extra work to help us rookies out.
Would you sell direct to the customer? cut out the middle man and you make the profit? I'm interested in 2 coyote pelts. I liked ans subscribed so if you respond to this question, I will know it.
What's the difference between what you've done here and when I see people use egg or brain yo tan the hide? Can I get coyote pelt to a point where I can drape it over the back of a couch or maybe a blanket?
Alright bro first off great vid series I really enjoyed them I'm just starting out jus bought my first 4 traps last week and your videos are super helpful and informative love em only thing that I could ask is if you do decide to redo some of the skinning parts could you please try your best to get a closer shot of that I've only ever skinned a couple deer and those was jus to ear didn't save the hide. But thank you for putting this series up and hopefully you are doing well.
What prevents your hides from rotting over time? I thought it was necessary to brain matter to tan or use chemicals to remove the oils from the flesh. Do you use this same method for larger game such as deer?
I was also wondering about this issue? But what I was thinking removing fat causes oil's so removing it helps preserves with the drying process . Just my thoughts
Truly like your series , extremely informative , especially for a rookie like myself. Do you have a video out, on making split boards for coyote and fox ?
Can someone please explain why they won’t buy them if they’ve been salted? In the taxidermy world people absolutely flip out at the thought of not salting a hide. They say it “sets the hair.”
awesome videos!!👍 I was woundering if it's over night that you have the fleshed side out on the coyotes and then the fur side out for 4 to 5 days in 50 to 60 degrees?
I was wondering if you posted a video about the alum method of tanning. I have a fox fur - thin skinned and after 2 days of salting I wonder if I should add salt to my alum brine and if there's a risk of slippage after 2 days of brining?
Now after 2 days in the alum my beautiful red fox is slipping and disintegrating in my hands. 1oz alum per 1 gal. WTF!!!?? I spent so much time researching how to do it right. Everyone seems to have a million different recipes. This thing sucks. First my deer hide slipped, now this 😭
Yes. Unless it’s fox, bobcat, and coyote. If you tan your fur then when you tan you can turn it fur side out. But in the drying process and when they are going to auction it fur buyer.
So what you are REALLY saying is a Rinse and Spin? Cold clean water Rinse and then Spin Dry correct? Still great video very informative I am asking well I get it but I have been watching with three others to them you spin out the blood. To me it sounds like a rinse and spin in the washer.

Good day my name is Chris I love your videos I've been watching them for years unfortunately I only recently subscribed... I'm up in Canada been trapping for a few years now but still bit inexperienced, caught my first otters this year got them skinned and stretched but I'm smelling a little sour along the base of the tails I think I took too long to get them skinned out. I've been really busy and from what I've been watching and reading the bacteria is causing hair slippage on the tails I'm wondering if there's anything to remedy this before it's too late if its not already. Was hoping to have them tanned and keep his wall hangers.

I just boarded my first two skins, Opossum dried in three days which was boarded 7days after my first raccoon which was still sweating. I don't have a dedicated place to put them so I have them in my basement with a fan blowing on them hopefully to keep any bugs off them. The temp around 40ish or colder with a space heater on. I am guessing all the questions are coming from people that the animal is not dry in the 5 days you noted. It has been now 15 days and did not feel it sweating any longer but was still not dry yet. I was thinking the 60ish degree temp you noted would have been too warm and bacteria would have started to ruin the pelt.
great presentation. Just wonder how much can you get for the skin [fur] and what you do with the meat. Too bad you don't live near by my home, I would supply you with lot of skunks, possums and raccoons. They killing my chickens. I live in bay area ca. cheers.
I'm out here in CA and put up fur to tan. I'm a hunter and we call coyotes and bobcats. I probably will never sell fur out here, but I enjoy skinning, fleshing and stretching the furs we get. One thing I noticed is that you keep your skins fur side in. Do you sell them that way? How does a fur buyer know what he's getting without seeing the fur? I have to make sure I balance that drying time with being able to turn the fur back to fur side out for display. Just curious if you sell fur side in.
Hey Matt...Just one quick question...Are you just hanging your hides inside a building not refrigerated...? Oh...one more...do you leave them hide out or turn them fur out to sell...Thanks Tom
First of all, thanks a lot for sharing with us your experience and your knowledge. when ever i try to hang my fox skin for drying, it gets wet on fur and skin side. i left it hangin in the room for one week and it was still wet on skin and fur side. i hang my pelt in an empty unused room where there is no heat to warm up the room, so the temperature is pretty cold there. What should i do to prevent my pelt from getting wet on fur and skin side? Thank you again
We have a beaver problem at our mountain house. The neighbor next door traps and will get the beavers out. I hunt but never trapped. Now he has my interest going. I’m just getting ready to retire and going to get into some trapping in Missouri. Your video serious is very helpful. I will definitely be going back to them as I get started trapping. On part 4 you mentioned two fur companies with beam / board measurements, I didn’t catch the names. Again great job with all the information and presentations
as a taxidermist i always wash my skins but with soap never the ones with the blue specks because thats bleach. This not only cleans the fur but degreases the skin also, you then poison the skin to stop insects eating it. For selling skins alone I guess it’s different but for mounting you get a far better finished mount.
I just binge-watched your whole series. You did an amazing job on explaining and detailing the process. I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to put these out. It's made me feel much more confident in getting into trapping.

Im 15 and just getting into trapping and this is hellping me out a lot i appreciate you doing these videos
hay thanks it was helpful but it helped me think of one more question, will furs dry in 10-30 degrease
H.T.F. farmboy yes they will dry, but it take longer
How do you dry the tails if they haven't been split open and air dried?
Is anything else needed to preserve it in the long run?
Cheers.
Please provide the buyers for hides, where do you get your boards, and what is your average hide charges for coyotes. Love the work
Local fur buyers if you have them but most get sent to the fur auction. Easy to Google but make sure you read their requirements
you make it look easy. I watched all 4 vids nice job.
Thanks
I am going to be selling my hides to NAFA as well, and I have a couple questions about your coyote stretchers.I am using wire stretchers for the the time being and want to make up some split boards. thanks for the videos I'm getting back into trapping and was looking for a refresher videos and I did have a question are coyotes the only one that's fur out when finished. thanks for the videos and good luck trapping
I know you said no salt but I’m curious why. I see a lot of channels use salt and borax but maybe they aren’t selling them.
that is a good bit of info. thanks ,I agree with one other you should do some good hound hunting vids.
jerry prewett thanks will do
Thanks. Do you show that also?
Got a few hides this year that I'm wanting to tan, do I need to board em or just start with the salting process, they are already fleshed.
Dont use salt use borax
What can be done if a fox is dry from forgetting about the one fell behind my table. Is fur out rolled up????
Great Info! Did you catch all that fur yourself or are you a buyer? Do you sell through NAFA?
Sorry I asked the questions before watching the whole video! LOL
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us, sir. When i hang my fox pelt for drying, the fur and skin side gets realy wet, what should i do to stop that from happining because i want my pelt to get dry not wet:)

What do you do with the meat
Yeah, what do you do with the meat? Is it edible? Get kinda tired of beef/chicken/ pork all the time. Ha ha Bet it's 'gamey'.
@@gliderrider I have a walk in freezer and I hang them in there for a few weeks and I use them as dog food
How wide are your boards for coyotes
Why not salt ?

Are the furs used for taxidermy or what?
Mainly selling to fur auction.
This entire series was simple, blunt, to the point, and informative. Thank you, you've piqued my interest in this as a possible new hobby.
I’ve always been interested in things like this. I’m glad I stumbled upon your channel. You shared great information. Thanks a lot!!
lol i like the 4:50 part of your video that 'thing' hang on the wall
I've had trouble getting rid of fleas on fox and coyote and was wondering what you've done. Thanks for answering some questions of mine
I just freeze my fur. That kills any flea.

Thanks for sharing. I've been quite curious on how people produce fur products, and your videos really answers them out.
If I get a tanned coyote pelt that's rather stiff, is it possible to soften it back up?
