when i realized it was clickbait, i was honestly planning on disliking out of spite, but then I got so immersed in the editing, the pacing, and realized that this is PEAK. YOURE GONNA GO FAR HOMIE IM ROOTING FOR YOU
"...but I'm not." Those are big words for a mortal, especially one so versed in the art of death. I saw the gleam in your eyes as you drained the light from another's. That was the smile of a master craftsman taking joy in their work. You have felt in your own hands how slender the thread is, yet you dangle yours in front of the fates so blithely. Pray this title is clickbait, child.
The advantage of doing engineering is that you know how to build a ramp! In a more literal sense it can also be a way to get unto film sets. Things like lighting, set-building, advanced camera systems, and so on are all easier if you know some engineering and have that engineering-y mindset! Hope you get far my dude!
I'm still in uni and changed my 4-year BS major three times, halfway through each. Imagine taking 5-6 years to graduate because you went from Computer Science, to Animation, to Music Production. And when I get out, I only plan on trading and opening up a business anyway.. which a degree isn't even needed for 😭 I'm finishing off my degree so I at least have a fallback, and I still prefer sticking with Music Production anyway as I already love music as a producer and artist. It only costed me $50k extra tho 💀At least it gives me time to learn and practice what I really want to do most on the side.
honestly an amazing video and genuinely hit me in my heart. i do economics in my own life and i really expected an experience that's not game theory and maximising equations and functions. definitely empathise in your pursuit of passions and feels like an absolute slog trying to get through it, but i still have a smidge of hope knowing i do have a passion for the big picture of things. love the michael reeves mention as well 🔥
Best of luck. 4 or so years in college is nothing compared to a life of work. Make that life of work more enjoyable. I also say that as someone who jumped from engineering as my dad did to sociology to english teacher and finally settling to be an accountant. The pandemic didn't help. I think this job is really dull though, but i'm also a dull person. My partner jumped ship from physics to medicine (that person is so happy to have done pre med) I'm still trying to build my ramp to my art/comic career, but the industry and online community isn't that fun. From two people jumping off ramp from their careers to the next, best of luck.
You filmed this like a music video holy shit this is jaw droppingly incredible. The pacing, the color correction and theory, the timing, the LIGHTING, the freakin flawless swoosh transitions Nothing short of perfection.
I did exactly this, built my portfolio, posted on social media and it got me a job in content creation. You're videos are amazing, keep posting, keep learning and you're gonna be sailing before you graduate bro ❤
I recently graduated and I have to say that I feel the worst I've ever felt. I have a trainee job lined up and I've been working in the meantime, but I look back to my time at university, a time that I didn't enjoy, and I just want to be an undergraduate again. You realise how good you had it when you leave university and quickly realise that university, studying, school is really easy and such a privilege to experience. The people that left school at 16 and immediately started working are the hardest workers out there. I've been on a honeymoon for years and don't want to leave. I want to be forever young, naïve, transitionary. I've been thinking of becoming a vagabond recently, a wanderer: taking a tent and putting all my belongings in a bag and just walking across beautiful rurality. I would sleep for as long as I want, stay as long as I desire and move when I want. People complain about their degree or their study, and while I can appreciate your complaints, you MUST understand that life essentially ends after university for many people. Perhaps I'm just lazy, dull and arrogant but you should enjoy university. At least Scotland has four-year degrees, so you get to waste more time than I did (very jealous). It's good to have a passion though; my passion is architecture, but it's not the type of thing you can enter willy nilly. But I think most people have similar experiences to me but I'm just very scared of being old and being unable to romanticise my problems. People want 'young love', not 'love'. In this same sense, my angst is only tolerable to me because I am young.
thats such a cool life, living that come up story, pushing through college (or 9to5) and not being able to wait to come home and pursue your dreams. on paper anyways in reality its not that fun
I'm a senior in college and it feels like I'm hitting a wall where what I want to do with my life and what I have to do with my life feel irreconcilable BUT who says I can't just build a big ramp? Create a new job that incorporates both? Who's REALLY keeping me from what I want to do (other than myself)? Great video. Color grading, audio, edits were sick. Keep up the great work- you already know you've got something.
bro you are literally me, electrical and computer engineering is not something games dev kid me, or current me can ever accept. Very grateful to have been here and to be privileged enough that I can say, WE WILL MAKE IT OUT, OR DIE TRYING 😭😭
Unironically one of the most wonderful videos to watch. So many amazing show compositions and wonderful uses of camera angles. The cinematography is beautiful! Keep it up, mate!
Dude words cannot describe how much I relate to this. I started Commerce Marketing two years ago (which thankfully is a piss easy course), but literally like 3 months ago I just lost all passion for it since ultimately I want to become a manga and book writer. Now luckily I've only got one year till I graduate but fuck it sucks.
Oh my god this is amazing! Good luck, Sam! As someone who’s also had to build a ramp while being stuck in a Game Art degree (I didn’t like the 3D modelling and other code like modules) and is finally working on animated shows for a living, I believe you can do it! You got this >:D ✨
I just found your channel and watched your 3 videos and it's just an amazing work, i really enjoyed watching these and i appreciated every second of them.
i dont even wanna know how much time went into these 2,5min of content, just lemme tell you how this is one of the coolest videos Ive seen in a while and keep it up
Gosh dang this is crazy high production value. The quality was dripping off every shot ong, so good. Gonna subscribe, hope i get to see more like this some day
damn bro I feel you! I'm in computer engineering and I feel the same way. School doesn't scratch the itch I thought it would. I make my music and start any other creative endeavours I have whenever I have free time. Continue on your path, get that degree! You won't ever have to depend on your art as your income so you'll always make what you truly want to make. Respect bro, nice video!
BRO THIS IS FIRE. The lighting, the cinematography, the editing, the pacing I have just subscribed man keep it up you got this YOU WILL BUILD THAT RAMP
Well, you are where I was 3 years ago. Did I make what I wanted to make? No. My anxiety has eaten me alive... but I'm still there and even with the job (or lack of it at this moment) I can still be creative. Still show what I'm capable of. I'll try my best to make something meaningful, what shouts "ME" in a creative way. Slow and steady, without deadline. But in a reasonable time :)
that was amazing. existing without the opportunity to do what you want and love is not being alive. and not being alive is worse than being dead. build that ramp, kid!
mechanical engineer that still makes youtube videos here! I was in the exact same situation as you a couple years ago, and honestly what I'm most proud of are the videos I've made while also working full time as an engineer. Don't let your job squash out your dreams- keep creating no matter what!
Seriously amazing video quality. Even though it was short, you did an excellent job of keeping me engaged and interested. You have TONS of potential. Great work man!
I actually love this! I've honestly been feeling a similar way. I can see you're going places as far as filmmaking is concerned thought, because you have a great sense for telling a story with this medium!
same here bro, i wanted to be a game developer artist but that isnt available in my country so i went with the "closest" thing and i fell into architecture. I don't have much regret in live but this is one of them. I thought to myself that i could use my architecture degree as a stepping stone towards my dream career but what i do in my course is still far from what i need to learn. And so i thought doing things like you, make my own portfolio that showcase things that helps me getting in to game dev but that is such hard thing if every night i have to lose sleep doing my plates. But like the old saying goes, if there's a will, there's a way.
Despite being live action, this feels so incredibly animated! Like a storytime animation come to life. With a weirdly inspiring message at the end, keep going dude! You'll build that ramp in no time.
Im almost done with my degree and feel like ill be a bit lost by the end of it. I didnt think to build a ramp, i hardly know what i want to do with my life job-wise but tbh this video is so inspiring and entertaining. It makes me feel like theres definitely hope and i dont have to just feel like im going nowhere. Good video bro!
