  • Join us at Swansea Station as we depart for Cardiff, and eventually Paddington, behind 5029 "Nunney Castle" through Bridgend and onto the steep inclines on the Vale of Glamorgan line. Our train almost grinds to a halt west of Llantwit Major before descending down to Barry and eventually Cardiff Central, a mear 54 miles. All stations and times are show as well as open window along the way. Happy Memories

Ah! Brings back memories as I fired on that route 60 years ago as a Neath engineman.

Excellent video. Nunney Castle didn't appear to be in the best of health with a bad steam leak from the front end. The climb from Southerndown Road up to Llantwit Major is a long one but it's 'only' 1 in 141 and a Castle should'n't have too much trouble with that.

19:00 Could have done with a bit of Shed-power on the back to keep things moving!
