"The F1 that we bought was an Indycar."
Even Albert Einstein would struggle with this one.
“The Formula One that we actually purchased was a Indy car”. Well buddy, so I guess you are not building a street legal F1 then…
Exactly what I thought. Indy cars are definitely NOT F1 cars!
The build videos on Casey's channel talk more about why they went with this chassis.
Essentially it boils down to at the time the chassis were pretty much identical and this chassis was accessible. The majority of the differences are in aero, and they are altering the car to match F1 spec.
Everything else can be attributed to the hotrod idea
@@fatpad00 I fully understand that, and by any means I would thrash or say bad things about this awesome project. BUT, it needs to be pointed out that it is not a F1 car, no matter the reasons for it (cost, technical issues...) Want to call it a single seater that resembles a F1 car? Fine... But it never was and never will be a "Street legal F1 car"....
@@mafracao ok, ya, the thumbnail is misleading. Its definitely not a "street legal F1 car" is not accurate at all. That makes it sound like a modern F1 car with lights and turn signals.
Calling it the "F1 hotrod" I would say is fair because it gets the point and goals of the build across without being needlessly wordy. Especially when you're casting a wide net like on youtube and the average viewer may not understand the difference, even if that isnt a perfect description.
I think having this guy talk about it kinda did an injustice to explaining what it really is. I was hoping Casey would also be in this video to explain that side of it
Street legal Indy car is still pretty sick, but of course calling it an F1 car gets the attention
the difference between this and a F1 car is everything
it identifies as one
Calling this an F1 car like it’s some generic term for single seater racing cars is really poor form.
Yeah, you would think that guys involved in this would at least use the correct terminology and nomenclature to describe a freaking cart chassis with a Hayabusa engine.
Calling this "F1 inspired" is like calling a Merc clr, production car inspired.
agreed when i saw th epic before coming to this vid iw as like that's a Indycar not a f1 car. A f1 car is way more majestic
As soon as he said 'street legal F1 car' I thought, oh like Casey is doing. Then he said that Casey was doing it. So now I know who is behind it.
Right. Casey isn't a builder, he is more of a showman and talker. Meanwhile everyone else does the work.
This channel used to be the best car stories and now every video is just a plug.
Excited to be part of building this project!
Legends, both of you :D
Ever consider an electric reverse? Need an auxiliary battery, maybe a large starter motor, rig it so you can switch the chain drive over to the electric motor, then engage it, simple compact short range reverse capability.
@@mattpovah5952 check out the reverse on a Honda Goldwing
You lost me at "Indy car"
Cool move but long way from calling that a F1 car. I suppose back in the day 4 cylinder low displacement cars were the F1 cars so technically anything could be. However at this point I'd call it a formula Hayabusa for the street.
Don’t Formula 3000 cars have small displacement engines like this in them?
@@chrisdooley6468 the tell tail there is 3000, they’re 3000cc. They used the cosworth engines from formula 1 when turbos took over.
Bmw used to manufacture 4 cylinder turbos for f1. The perfect engine is hard find because f1 engine have very low tolerances and a cold engine would be completely seized. The only engine I can think of that could work would be the Lexus LFA engine but good luck finding one.
Finally someone is asking the important questions. 🙏
A bmw sedan with a built and turbo'd m10 is more f1 inspired than a cart chassis with a Hayabusa engine
Yeah I don't understand why they keep saying it's anything to do with F1 when saying a street legal Cart would be just as cool.
Not the first. Look up Gary Cheney in New Hampshire. He made a Raynard road course car street legal and put an LS1 in it. Also, Dallara IndyCar Factory makes tandem two-seater road legal cars.
If you have enough time and money, you can make pretty much anything street legal.
Register in Montana as a street legal go cart all you need is head lights tail lights and one mirror

It makes me really happy that Jeremy Clarkson's description of paddle shifter setups is still being used.
Flappy Paddle Gearbox isn't the normal term for them? I know people who don't watch TopGear/The Grand Tour and still call them that.
@@TonySki 🤯
@@TonySki do you think that might have something to do with that when Clarkson coined the term “Flappy Paddle” Top Gear was the most watched show on earth?
That is going to be so cool. Can't wait to see it done.
Not sure what Freddy is going to compare the panel gaps too though...
yeah wonder how many points this one will get on the List?!
Yea just google the others out there that have been done before this guy came up with the "First" idea even.
Calling that a "F1" car is clickbait af
That's why it says, "Formula One inspired car." The body work is being completely cut, formed, & changed to look like an early 90s F1 car
@@obsidianstudiosfreshfilms2750 Cutting and pasting the same comment is so cringe, I almost feel bad for you. Give it up, you made a formula car that is road legal... then you made a huge mistake by comparing it to the pinnacle of motorsport. Accept it and learn from it, what you've done is still cool in it's own right.
Don't double down on stupid.
@@sublevel03 We literally say in the video it was inspired by the F1 cars in the 90s lol.. clearly you didn't watch the video. We can't help the title or thumbnail
Can you make an F1 car street Legal? Is the answer no as this is not an F1 car.
That's why it says, "Formula One inspired car." The body work is being completely cut, formed, & changed to look like an early 90s F1 car
@@obsidianstudiosfreshfilms2750 In what way is that relevant to the point Chris made? Also cut n paste much?
@@owensparks5013 The content addresses all of this information...
@@obsidianstudiosfreshfilms2750 So if I make a video with the title "How to fly a F15 fighter jet on a private pilot's licence" and then in the video explain that I've painted a cesena light grey and fitted some fiberglass to it, then that's all good?
@@owensparks5013 We don't make the titles, we just told our story...
Super easy to make anything street legal in Montana.
Lights, mirrors, horn and we can put a license plate on anything.
sorry to break this to you, but there is a good number of former F1 cars that have been made street legal, you would by no means be the first one
Nice! Got any links?
Here ! They just delete my comment 🔥
I can't seem to find an actual F1 chassis turned into a street legal car, only IndyCar chassis, so, this one wouldn't be the first either, because it's not an F1 car in the beginning. But still, this is about the coolest shit ever
Love the idea, but this is at best, what? F3? F5?
That's why it says, "Formula One inspired car." The body work is being completely cut, formed, & changed to look like an early 90s F1 car
In Florida everything is street legal. Look into the reverse Honda uses on the Goldwing. If I'm not mistaken it uses an electric motor to reverse the bike, your car should be light and maybe you can retrofit it.
We were thinking about doing this
I've seen the guy use a starter motor to reverse his motorcycle engine car
running a no-profit so you can build a race car, seems like a scheme
This project is seperate to his non profit. The non profit is to teach young people skills to help them get into Motorsport and engineering.
He builds cars like this as like his “day job” to make a living and RUclips content.
Epic! Seeing people meet their near impossible goals is something we should all be happy for. Great work and cannot wait to hear about the pull over stories! 😁
It is not at all unusual for genuine recent Formula One racing cars to be driven on Public Highways, usually for Public Relations exercises by the actual Formula One Organisation itself to increase Grand Prix attendances, or by advertisers (most commonly Red Bull) seeking publicity. The vehicle shown on this VinWiki episode is not a Formula One car and cannot legally be described as such. It is difficult to understand why spectators or viewers at the forthcoming Formula One Grand Prix in Miami, Florida on 8th May 2022 would wish to see an essentially home-built and outdated version of a 'racing car' when they can see twenty of the actual contemporary cars in action on the track.
Hate it when people call basic single seaters "f1" cars, there nothing alike, not even close
Agreed
Single seat? Check
Open Wheels? Check
Revs beyond 10K RPM? Check
Giant front and rear spoiler? Check
@@sk8erguy61hotmail it's not even close too a f3 car let alone a f1 car.
@@sk8erguy61hotmail By that definition a cow is pretty much the same as a race horse. Four legs and a tail, check.
That's why it says, "Formula One inspired car." The body work is being completely cut, formed, & changed to look like an early 90s F1 car
So not an F1 car with a "not an F1" engine. WTF happened to this channel? It's an interesting enough car without having to lie about it.
right? was going to ask this exact same thing...not an F1 chassis, not an F1 engine, or even close to it...plenty of V12, V10...hell even high revving V8's out there that are already coming from street driven cars...
+1 this is not nearly cool enough to have f1 attached to it. Honestly, the street converted nascar's are cooler than this.
Ya this one didn't hit the mark for vinwiki
That's why it says, "Formula One inspired car." The body work is being completely cut, formed, & changed to look like an early 90s F1 car
@@obsidianstudiosfreshfilms2750 he said it started with a cart chassis and aero. Literally zero f1 connection. Equating every open wheel car with f1 is such a basic, cringe move that no one involved in race cars should be doing that
With reverse some Harley Davison bike with a sidecar used a electric power just to reverse it
We had thought about implementing something like this
I always thought when F1 raced on the streets of Monaco that the cars were technically "road" legal atleast for a little while anyway😉
why am I not surprised that it's Casey Putsch doing this project?
I have been watching this build since Casey obtained the Chassis/Body.
Removable Fenders/Skirts in Black Carbon Fiber would make this Legal/Operational in Damp Situation on Public Roadways!
Depending on which State this is going to be Licensed, don't you need a Windshield and Wipers? I know that (here in Washington State) one of the requirements for a D.O.T./State Patrol Inspection required both...
I cannot wait for this build to be fully complete and Legal! 🖖
I mean somebody tell Colton Herta to stop worrying, by VinWiki’s definition he is already driving an F1 car
Well, ask Caparo how their attempt went
i only needed the intro to gather the answer is "no"
I really hope these dudes are successful. Wishing them nothing but the best!
The roden Fzed. An manufacturer in new Zealand currently trying to build a road legal f1 car (v8 era variant) not a bad attempt at it either.
Look into rpm gearboxes. Other RUclips have used them in a street bike powered golf cart. It is probably the only option that can handle your torque.
Would a set of smaller electric motors work for reverse it's used on the Honda goldwings might be a usable tech that's easy to get
Why would you not do the double Hayabusa block v8 build. Wasted opportunity to say the least there guy
Ive built T-Rex 3 wheelers with Hayabusa engines, they sell an external reverse gear kit for the engine
I’ve seen one with a plate on it in Florida on I-95 which is probably a lot easier to do down here so it is possible
That would be me 😁💯🏎🙏🏻
Great story brother once used a garage door opener to get reverse on a gsxr600 go kart I built long time ago wasn't fast but definitely saved me from pushing and was easy to set up
Hands down this is cool. But I’m sorry to me it’s just a kit car. A true f1 would be the original motor. And try to figure or engineer an easier way to start the car.
While this is certainly a pretty cool build, it’s ridiculous to try and make some kind of comparison to a F1 car. The only similarity is that it’s an open wheel single seater. He says it “looks like an early 90s F1 car.” On what planet? If anything, it’s vaguely similar to a mid 1960s formula car.
I think you’re missing the point that he was not to replicate a particular from the one car point was to create something similar they can have the similar shape to form a one car…
The body work is being completely cut, formed, & changed to look like an early 90s F1 car
Dang I was hoping for a S85 V10. 😂
Casey seems like a really great guy!!
i had a friend back in 2000 that had a blue street legal indy car with a chevy 350 and a porsche dog box trans, it was simple and worked. So what i'm saying is i had a friend that had one that was built 5 years before that, so street legal indy car has been done before.
But not F1
@@Dwendele They're building an indy car to look like an f1 car, not an actual f1 car.
a 1uz would be really good for this car. Change the rods and add a cam it can handle 12k rpm and with 180 headers it would sound really good and have the power too being that they can make 1000hp with those mods and a turbo. Can still rev to 8k without doing rods and make around 800hp.
How much are one of those cars ????
Seems more like an Indy car than f1. Still cool
I see road legal IndyCars all the time especially around IMS. Some single and some two up but they’ve got Indiana tags on them.
love hearing this guy's stories
There are some motorcycles/trikes that have reverse and they use the starter.
There’s been a f1 car spotted in Jacksonville FL recently . Seen video of it on 95 surprised I haven’t see. A pic of it pulled over lmao
Only 6 channels?? Mate, we only had 4 when we were growing up.
Whats the plan if it rains? Florida weather-wait 10 min and the weather will change.
By this logic I can call it a go kart
what is next...? a street legal Top Fuel dragster?
you could have started with a Skip Barber chassis... use as template but really nothing of it would be left
Firstly this is NOT F1 car, secondly it is still look cool
Looks like a perfect candidate for one of those aussie or kiwi built Hayabusa based v8s.
Life wouldn't exist without a really long tube
You guys should change the title of the video to street legal open wheel racecar
Haha only 6 TV channels when you were growing up? Laughs in 1980's BBC and ITV.
Some dude around here in florida has a street legal f1 I've seen him pull up to a meet
I have one question is that the one cylinder 90 HP with crazy torque?
Hayabusa engine is 140hp 1340cc inline 4
Hayabusa is an inline4 block. About 190bhp.
This one makes 225hp
"It's impossible to have a F1 car drive on the street. It's impossible to have the maintenance on the engine"
Formula One team has entered the chat 5:41
Sorry, don’t mind but could you show the car more than yourself. And maybe include a video of it on the street too. That would be nice . Thank you
you can drive an f1 on the start of a button the rpm has to be dropped consirably though
BAC mono would have been a bit easier but nearly as fun!
Awesome dream, great execution. Casey is an amazing dude. Rustam, I also like your foundation, keep it up man.
I've tried doing this before!!
F1 this f1 that but it's a IRL car
You lucky!!! When u was a kid in Madeira Island - Portugal we only had one channel and was crap lol
Cut up a radical to make a not so radical. Nice
Put the motorcycle engine in neutral and add a small electric motor for reverse
Awww... i wanted to se that thing finished, run and drive.
This is not the first one. Look up popular mechanics one mans quest to make a street legal Indycar. It’s from 10/20/19
Ah this thing is going to be a Alain Prost F1-tribute car right😉
Take the gearbox from the Honda gold wing bike.
So click bait? This is nothing like an F1 car!
This just gave me an incredible idea for a vehicle.... :D
That is quite interesting.
Yup!!! This definitely sounds like a Casey from Genius Grage would get involved with and make happen!! LoL
Anyone up for a game, take a drink everytime this dude says "useable" or "we can use".
i wonder which cost more, the build or the chin
👍 Forbes should by the Disney race track back
Lol Red Bull beat you to the punch
We wanted to make a Koenigsegg... so we bought a Kia...
Lamborghini swap, hellcat swap, rx7 swap, I could go all day
The build we’ve all been waiting for
Yess!!
ruclips.net/video/ZNv94AXy8Qw/видео.html
Are they going to blow it up!
Try doing it to Australian ADR standards then talk to the guy who has built the Ferrari engined Zacaria. 😎👍
6 THAT IS A LUXURY
I'll give ya $2,000 for it! 😂
Why not use an electric motorcycle drivetrain, energica ego,no gears and reverse
This video can better, bring back NFT guy
Should have just bought a bac mono
turning an indy into driver f1 ferrari is so sick
Let's not forget about when Casey cried about his garage build Lykan replica and Donut Media reminding the world they're a fake garbage car. #NeverForget
My grandpa has a street legal indycar
