Waterman Absolute Brown is my favorite from your list, and my favorite brown ink all told. I always have a pen inked up with Absolute Brown. It looks incredible on aged paper, and I also use it often for writing letters. I discovered my all time favorite ink for writing letters and making journal entries this year. It's Montblanc Purdey and Sons Single Malt. It's a scented ink, and is unlike any other ink I've found. It is expensive. It was eighty dollars for 50ml when I bought it, but I think it's a bit cheaper now. I have inks from many brands, about three hundred and fifty different inks, not counting a shoebox full of cartridges, and far too many samples. and I do like a lot of them, but outside of this one expensive Montblanc ink, my two favorite brands, by far, are Iroshizuku and Waterman. Since Iroshizuku has gone to mass produced bottles, the price has dropped considerably, and now it's not very expensive at all. Waterman has always been a favorite, and I mean for decades. I have and use Absolute Brown, Harmonious Green, Tender Purple, Intense Black, Mysterious Blue, and Serenity Blue. Purple and green are my favorite colors, and the Tender Purple is in my top three purple inks. I haven't tried Audacious Red because I prefer dark red inks. Diamine Red Dragon is my ideal red. It's obviously red, but it's dark enough to use for most of the letter writing I do. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the Desert Rose, and Covid-19 has wiped out our income, anyway, so it may be a while before I can start buy ink, and certainly pens. But I'll get it sooner or later. If I might offer a suggestion. I'm not fond of ink swabs because they very rarely show me how an ink will look when it comes out of my pen. I'd really like to see swabs on one side of a card, and a writing sample on the other side. Seems like the best of both worlds to me.
Thank you James for this feedback , you are a very experienced in this INKY matter :D I love iroshizuku because i can sleep well knowing that even if i forget to wash a pen... it wont do any harm to it. I like waterman inks for the same reason and its hard for me to go out of this love triangle : waterman - montblanc - iroshizuku Looking forward to you getting the Desert Rose and sharing some feedback for this blend :D Thanks for the support and everything !
James Ritchie - Thanks for your insight, and I sure agree. I hope you and your family make it through this difficult time. With your having such an extensive collection I’d be curious to know what inks you’d absolutely avoid. For me it’s anything that has glitter or iron gall added.
“Desert Rose” is one of my new favorite colors. It’s in my top 5 for now. I love the sheening effect of this ink. It changes rather dramatically depending on which paper I use. I have a bad habit of inking every new pen I receive with my latest color obsession.
@@pen.venture I was wondering if you had any other joint ventures for unique inks on the drawing board or in stock which I missed... I was surprised how much nicer “Desert Rose” is in person.. That was happiness in a bottle & I didn’t have to drink it. Lol... I was gonna purchase Tono & Lin from Japan out of curiosity, but it’s an oddly described collection with vastly different styles of inks & the prices are a bit high to buy so much ink on spec just to play. And some of their ink collections are recommended for dip pens only. It seems their line of inks are all over the place. Oh well... I love color, thus I love fountain pen inks, especially if they are interesting...
A very fine list, indeed! Of your ten picks, I reckon my #1 is Iro’s Tsuki-Yo ink. I find it extremely attractive on the page. And Waterman’s Serenity blue is a very close second. I think I have too many blue (and blue-black) inks but these two are very dear to me. Funny you mentioned all KWZ inks having the vanilla aroma to them. I only have three KWZ inks. And they all are vanilla pots. Lol. When I bought my first bottle (Maroon #2) I was pleasantly puzzled with the scent.
Yes the scent of kwz offers a whole new dimension to the writing experience , if you have a fine nose you actually can get the smell of the pages while you write 😁
@@pen.venture ...Ha, I always do smell the scent as soon as I uncap the pen. And also when I begin writing. It comes right off the page. It’s weird and wonderful, to say the least. Besides, Kwz make splendid inks.
Noodles pens are ideal for Emerald of Chivor, the wide cut feed and flex nib really makes the most of the ink while also being very easy to clean and causing no problems with clogging. And my Konrad is too wet to use any other ink without it feathering and for some reason Emerald of Chivor doesn't have this problem.
I use mine in Twsbi Eco pens. It's easy to see when the pen needs to be agitated to keep the gold particles in suspension, and easy to completely take the pen apart for thorough cleaning.
I agree with the Jacques Herbin 1670 Emeraude de Chivor, I also like Vert Atlantide, with both silver and gold shimmer. I like Waterman inks too, my favorite is Inspired Blue, formerly called South Sea Blue. I use Harmonious green too. My red ink is Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses. It's a very well mannered burgundy. Another favorite from that company is LA Couleur Royale, a blue ink with some purple. My current brown ink is Jacques Herbin Lie de The, but thanks to your video, I want to try some Waterman Absolute Brown. It's hard to pick a favorite blue ink. I rotate between Montblanc Royal blue, Sheaffer Scrip, and Parker Blue Black Quink. I also like the black and blue black Parker Quink.
I simply find the burgundy inks not to my liking - but that is just personal taste :D MB Burgundy Red is one of the very few inks that I can say "I HATE" because no matter in what pen I put it is is skipping like crazy. As for Brown - try MB ToffeeBrown and Waterman Absolute Brown - two of my fav brown
I love Emeraud of Chivor in a TWSBI eco 1.4mm stub. It’s perfect for this. I have had this ink inside this pen for two years now - with refilling - and it’s very satisfying. Yes, sacrificed the pen,.....worth it.
I've visited several sites, and can't find the TWSBI eco with a 1.4mm stub ... just a 1.1mm stub. I love this ink ... in fact, I bought a sampler pack that should arrive any day now, and Emeraud of Chivor is one of inks I'll be receiving. But why would using this ink "sacrifice" a pen? I'm kind of a newbie and am trying to learn everything I can ...
@@michaelmotz3228 Sacrifice could be that either the ink will stain the pen , which isn’t a problem if you’re only going to use just that ink in just that pen, or designate which means only that ink in that pen! That’s what I’m doing with the TWSBI Iris. Because of the purple dominance in the rainbow, I’m only using purple ink in that pen!
Desert Rose makes my poor heart beat faster. I would have already ordered at least two bottles if the shipping costs to Austria weren't so high. 🥺 That ink looks utterly gorgeous and expensive, makes me think of royalty. By far the best and most original Diamine exclusive, imo.
Sorry to hear that - the only service we have available is DHL Express - but this is still accessible - its like 18 eur which comparing to a person like us ordering from Europe - its more than 25 eur.
Tsuki-yo is in my top 10 as well. Wonderful and beautiful ink. Sailor Bungubox First Love Sapphire may be my favorite ink period...if you love blues, I highly recommend it. It's expensive, but worth it as a treat for me at least.
I need to check that ink - i aldo like Sailor Jentle - Southen but my God it is very staining - no matter how quickly you change it, it likes to stick on everything
@@pen.venture That was one in your review I wanted to check out, although it would miss out on the name symmetry think. Do you have a Black Blue pen in stock? :)
I haven't used any KWZ inks, but I am on the same page as you for Waterman Serenity Blue. That is definitely my favorite blue, and I always have a pen inked with it! I didn't know the KWZ inks had a vanilla smell to them. I really love when inks have a smell, so I may have to pick up some bottles.
I've used shimmer inks in a TWSBI Eco demonstrator. Easily cleanable and beautiful in the demonstrator. Only pen I have that I would really use a shimmering ink in, though.
Great list, great video. I discovered yesterday that my favorite ink is now Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo (it used to be Montblanc Petrol Blue). I love Waterman inks too.
Many good choices. I like them all for various uses but my favorite for now is "Desert Rose". It is special to me. My everyday, anywhere favorite ink is Waterman Serenity Blue because as you say it can be used with any pen including my vintage pens. Thank you once again for a fantastic video. I am looking forward to the top ten pen video.

I don't think they put iron oxide into fountain pen inks. Maybe you are thinking about the acidic iron gall inks? I think reds are less popular because people associate them with mistakes on tests.
Im not sure ... but considering that i've experienced brown-yellow-red inks and seen first hand how they corrode the nibs underneath where ink sits the most and floods the feed.... i can only think of a single factor that does this and its present in red inks including brown/yellow (they are one big happy family). Iron gall inks contain acid ... different things (one is acid - one is oxide). Im not an expert i just asked Diamine and other ink manufacturers
Hey there Kathleen, try our website www.pen-venture.com , we have on the Momento Zero Grande series a 14k size 8 large gold nib, that is one of the largest nibs that it’s commonly available now
J. HERBIN Lie de Thé is a must. For Blue ink, Waterman is a very veeeery good choice (easily available, pretty inexpensive and good quality) but personnaly, I prefer Diamine Sapphire Blue : closer to my "lapis lazuli" expectation. Schneider makes good and really cheap Royal Blue ink too but I don't know if it's available in all countries.
Thank you for your top 10 inks. The only two from your list that I've tried are the Waterman inks. I have the blue and the brown. Both are excellent and, as you said, very safe in all pens. I also enjoy Diamine inks as they are so inexpensive and easy to collect in my country (UK).
Very good Presentation. I like also the Diamine brand. I have Imperial purple and it behave extremely well. From KWZ my hours and bought the Sheen Mashine but in Jinhao bent nib fountain pen , but the flow is not so good. Great video! Merry Christmas!!!
Usually with sheen inks flow its quite tricky to get right - i dont use them too much and that is the main reason why. Overall diamine is cheap and the colors option are so so many, easy to wash and super nice in all other aspects
re Emerald pf Chivor: it's not as hard to clean up as it sounds, but I would avoid pens you can't take apart for thorough cleaning just in case. I used it in Chinese pens of under $35, but I would also put it in a Sailor 1911 zoom if I "needed" to :) I would avoid using it in some piston filler that can't be taken apart like a pelikan or MB, but otherwise no issues.
:D you are correct - although it is good to picture the ink being more difficult to clean because if someone that doesnt have experience tries it... is is best to start with the idea of being a nightmare to clean :)) This year 2022 - im planning tonget a pilot custom 823 in a clear demo style and fill it up with a crazy ink like this and keep it like this for ever :D
You are the expert - i only asked many pen manufacturers why does my demonstrator pens where staining more with red ink and the ink flow was less wet when i used red inks (in the same category along red i put orange/brown-orange/yellow). What i got was this : " iron oxide as a pigment has a texture that in combination with the friction of the piston on the demonstrator barrel of the pen will actually micro scratch the material letting ink penetrate in the material and also due to its thickness - ink will not flow that easy in the feed channel. As a side note, this is why these inks Crust Up - they oxidise, but you're the expert
@@pen.venture the crusting could also be from crystallisation of the ink I find the threads of my diamine bottles sometimes get that the scratching could also be from the rust turning into black oxide from the friction of the piston
It seems like it would be more cost effective to purchase from high end collections of makeup. Draw on a few places on your body to check how the ink looks & reacts on your skin. But, you can buy the mica powder in numerous colors, some flat like just pigment color, some pearlescent & some with a high sparkle which is all safe for the skin. Once you start looking it can make you crazy. There are some crazy beautiful colors. I even found a sparkle powder reminiscent of “Emeraude de Chivor”. If the mica doesn’t give you the micron size, then I wouldn’t purchase it. It’ll tell you if it’s good for eyeshadow, make-up, nail polish & all kinds of stuff. 10-60 micron range of size is small enough to apply smoothly. I’ve seen 1-5 micron size, but colors are more limited, at least from what I’ve found. I think the next measurement smaller are nanobites. I have a chart somewhere about mL, micron & nanobite sizes. This is my idea of a good time. Lol... Oh & FYI, 10-60 micron size range fits thru an airbrush if mixed with paints, so it should fit thru a nib & feed if mixed with a dye based fountain pen ink, which most fountain pen inks are. If it’s pigment based ink, it’s in the description has been my experience. I’m still learning. This is the first hobby I’ve ever had & I began playing with pen & inks at the end of 2019. But they have tutorials on how to make your own make-up with mica powders from what I’ve read. I guess there must be some kind of base you purchase to mix & create makeup.I never checked it out. Sorry to be so long winded. I hope this is useful for you & not too annoying... 😏
Thank you for this Top 10 of inks! Number 1 was a surprise, now I got curious about Waterman inks The Visconti and Emerald of Chivor got my attention, that vibrant blue is quite nice. How similar is it to Leonardo Blue ink?
Thank you Alexandra - just give them a try - all waterman inks are safe and very underrated. Visconti blue is a more dark shade of blue and Leonardo is a more turquoise shade
@@pen.venture I've got Waterman Harmonious Green and like it. I've went from 1 bottle at the beginning of the year, to over 30 bottles of inks... but will find some place and use for the Serenity, Inspired and Mysterious inks, too :))
im not sure what to recommend - my favourite black is Aurora Black - but that is saturated and so so wet and juicy. I guess you can try to actually make it dry if you add some water to it, for example fill 70% of a converter with ink then the res30% fill it with water and experiment with that
@@kingcedric7120 not true - with ink it’s viscosity that makes it wet or not, so by adding water you dilute the pigment and looks like it’s more liquid and less actual ink, by adding soap you increase the visconsity and it flows like crazy
this will be a video full of cuts and so because i have no idea which are my favourite 10 pens out of my collection and i cant justify picking one than the other
Thank you ! you guessed - im all blue. Regarding the video - i think so, as far as i remember the only items that doesnt have a video is the diamine desert rose ink
I didn't know visconti ink bottle used to be glass, my Visconti ink back from 2016 is plastic, nice looking shape but unfortunately plastic.. I wish they would switch back to glass bottles.
🤩 you’ve picked Tsuki yo and this is my all time favourite ink, never mind favourite Blue ink. Incredible colour from wet to drier pens, the shading is awesome. Love it and your choice of Waterman inks. Absolutely incredible Blue as well. I have some Florida Blue from years ago, would that still be ok? It’s been kept in the dark anyway 👍🏻😃
Hey Richard, thank you :D that means a lot. On the Florida Blue, i see no problem, just give it a shake and check with something like a stick (NOT FLASH DRIVE :)) ) if there is any ink that formed clumps ... if there are none ... its ok :D
Hiya, army! Happy Christmas! Last month, I recently purchased Waterman Brown since I want to try it out, and I’m not typically a fan of brown inks. - This ink shades quite good and it’s SUPER safe! - Great video. I better hope 2021 will be an improvement than this year!
Thank you! Happy holidays - Merry Christmas ! Im happy that my suggestions for this ink was the definitive factor in your next choice of ink. 1. From your list I like the KWZ Blue-Black. The shimmer and sheen inks are fun to look at, but not useful to me. 2. My focus in inks is different from yours. I think you like inks that are easy to clean out of expensive pens. Due to a recent test I did, I am VERY focussed on inks that don't fade so fast. I was horrified to find that all my bright inks fade easily. The only inks I have that I trust in the sunlight are Noodler's Lexington Gray, Noodler's El Lawrence, and Platinum Clasic Citrus Black. I expect to move forward with more iron gall inks, like the Citrus Black.
1. Totally understandable - this is my taste and i can respect any different opinions 2. this is where i need to pay more attention and take a closer look at how my journals from 4 years ago look like - just didnt had time to check the ink and see how it stood the test of time. Be careful with iron gall - in some situations and some specific iron gall inks - can be harmful to inner parts of the fountain pens

Hello, do you sell absolute brown (Waterman) Do you ship to France? Thank you!!! 🌞🌞
Hmmm unfortunately we don’t sell waterman inks 😞
i guessed the top choice correctly ... it is the safest ink and that is the ink I always recommend as your first ink ... also known as Florida Blue.
Thanks for the feedback :D it is one of my most used inks so this is why it is on nr1 :D
Iron oxide isn't technically rust it is rust and not many inks use it as a pigment because it's a fairly thick pigment
@@pen.venture the crusting could also be from crystallisation of the ink I find the threads of my diamine bottles sometimes get that the scratching could also be from the rust turning into black oxide from the friction of the piston
wonder if you could use Emerald of Chivor as eye shadow. Make my eyes sparkle. 👀
you can... but i think getting it off the skin will be the tricky part :))
Hello my friend... From your list Montblanc catches my eye the most!
Hey Eugenio - i still keep that ink and not discard any leftovers :D ill be a sad day when its over
@@pen.venture 😉
Thank you for this Top 10 of inks! Number 1 was a surprise, now I got curious about Waterman inks
The Visconti and Emerald of Chivor got my attention, that vibrant blue is quite nice.
Wao vv use full information ☺️
Thank you ! i hope you enjoyed it
Can you still purchase Diamine Desert Rose? Is it sold in the U.S.?
Yes - it’s available on pen-venture.com 🙌🏻
It looks like it's an exclusive color to Pen Venture
Emy..your Voice is great:-) Thanks for your 10 Top Ten List...
Thank you Manuel :D - looking forward for that top 10 list but its so damn hard to pick in between my pens
do you all have a recommendation for a saturated black ink that runs on the drier side? My nib is very wet
im not sure what to recommend - my favourite black is Aurora Black - but that is saturated and so so wet and juicy. I guess you can try to actually make it dry if you add some water to it, for example fill 70% of a converter with ink then the res30% fill it with water and experiment with that
@@pen.venture mixing water to the ink makes it even wetter
@@kingcedric7120 not true - with ink it’s viscosity that makes it wet or not, so by adding water you dilute the pigment and looks like it’s more liquid and less actual ink, by adding soap you increase the visconsity and it flows like crazy
I’m not confident about how I’d rate it in terms of saturation, but Pelikan’s Brilliant Black 4001 is definitely quite a dry ink.
Organic Studios Nitrogen A lovely ink which will get everywhere when you open the bottle. Ask Penultimate Dave.
:)) - just saying this around my pens can bring out nightmares from my past experiences
My favourite ink is Emeraud de Chivor. Thank you for this video, now I want to try all these inks 😂😂
That is one crazy exotic choice - its the right season to use it again in my Christmas cards
@@pen.venture I think so, too
Cant wait for you to do a Top 10 Favourite Pens video Emy (:
this will be a video full of cuts and so because i have no idea which are my favourite 10 pens out of my collection and i cant justify picking one than the other
Quite sure that blue tone ink is your favourite lol Btw, would you make a video for all pen venture exclusive items?
Thank you ! you guessed - im all blue.
They used glass untill 2014 or 15 - they where more steady and less prone to tip over - i like them a lot
@@pen.venture that was nice. Couldn't understand their decision for switching to plastic.
On the Florida Blue, i see no problem, just give it a shake and check with something like a stick (NOT FLASH DRIVE :)) ) if there is any ink that formed clumps ... if there are none ... its ok :D
Wow, that Diamond looks like the Lamy Crystal Inks Azurite but on steroids!
Lamy Azurite is again one of the nicest blue-purple inks :D good one Eric!
Serenity blue is 💙
indeed - it is my favourite easy ink of mine
Great👍
Thank you
Hiya, army! Happy Christmas!
Last month, I recently purchased Waterman Brown since I want to try it out, and I’m not typically a fan of brown inks.
-
This ink shades quite good and it’s SUPER safe!
-
Great video. I better hope 2021 will be an improvement than this year!
Thank you! Happy holidays - Merry Christmas !
Im happy that my suggestions for this ink was the definitive factor in your next choice of ink. Enjoy the waterman ink - the possibility of it washing quickly and not letting any trace in the pens that use it ... makes it so much more valuable.
May 2021 bring 10x more video content and ill take it to a whole new level with Pen Venture
1. Totally understandable - this is my taste and i can respect any different opinions
2. this is where i need to pay more attention and take a closer look at how my journals from 4 years ago look like - just didnt had time to check the ink and see how it stood the test of time. Be careful with iron gall - in some situations and some specific iron gall inks - can be harmful to inner parts of the fountain pens

The Waterman Serenity is a bit nicer then Qink Royal Blue
i never tried Qink - i heard so many things about it
