How To Change My Salomon Quicklaces

- The patented Quicklace system compatible with Salomon Footwear and Nordic ski boots enables, fast, easy adjustment of the laces on the fly, ensuring they never untie or have loose ends.
Big Question we get is HOW DO WE PUT THEM ON & RE-LACE.
No Worries....Hugh Comes To The Rescue
I wouldn’t have purchased these boots if I’d known how difficult they made changing the laces. Incredible!
Yeah, it is all about intelligence and stuff
A good question to ask yourself if you are buying footwear is "Will I have to watch a six minute video to learn how to change my laces?"
Good point
I've had dozens of pairs of Salomons (both civilian and military grade versions) These laces outlast the shoe.
I'm watching this video to see if I can replace normal laces on other shoes with quicklaces.
@@proxyicarcus I have a Lowa's with similar lace system and it lasted for 3 month for me.
Just some man with working hiking boots knifes and lighters
Real shit
Great tutorial! I've been dreading re-threading my Solomon's all winter and I've finally done it in less than 5 minutes!
How do you get the goddamn laces through the fucking holes?
crap explanation about the hardest part, getting the clip on to the wheel
I’m twenty minutes in and haven’t managed to feed the first thread through the first channel. The little plastic ‘lace feeder’ just bends immediately and is absolutely no use. Incredibly frustrating. Now I know why normal shoes are still more popular...
I was in the same boat - if you burn the end into a little twist you can feed it through easier - and I used a fork (one of the little tines / blades of the fork) to make the tiny lacing holes slightly bigger - hope this helps.
Try using a toothpick to widen the channel first.
Haha. Same here. Had to get sewing needles. Then, how do you attach the laces to the first plastic feed thing - the instructions don’t show that. Really frustrating
But how do you fit the laces into the first latch? You seem to have skipped that bit
Now I know why I get a nice pair of saloman sense 6 shoes cheap at goodwill with broken laces....
It is mind boggling how this product has not been thought through when it comes to ease of install.
MG! When this two guys are the US elite! Do not let your enemies know that!
I just spent 2 hours replacing a shoe lace. The little plastic tube to slide the laces through the channel is useless. It's too flexible. It took forever to coax the laces through each hole with a fork and a bobby pin. There was blood.
Getting the laces through the slider was not easy. Then I had to improvise to get the cap to snap together.
I do like the shoes and I like the ease of using the laces but replacing a lace is so difficult that I probably won't buy another pair.
Same here. To snap plastic parts together I used two sets of pliers.
Skipped over most important part. How to put slider together!
Rubik's cube of shoe laces.
Literally the WORST and most frustrating thing of all time. Congrats, Saloman. Genuinely never buying any of your kit ever again, on principle.
I am at the last step and I cannot get the male and female bits to join. My knots are at the very end of the thread but they will not fit down inside and allow the to pieces to close.
I have the same issue.
I was able to overcome that issue by looking at this video, basically, get a pair of pliers and pull the string from both ends of the knot to make the knot as small as possible - ruclips.net/video/Z1mI58qtZhM/видео.html
What a pain in the arse! Just give me a regular lace.
Great video
Two things: after you put the connecting parts onto your two ends after it’s fed through, tie your knots off at the desired length BEFORE you cut it down to length
Also use sewing scissors or sharp kitchen scissors not a dorky operator knife
Thanks for this. Dog just got ahold of mine and I hope I can repair them now.
Good luck!
this is good but you need pliers to make sure the knot is super small!
Can a normal shoe lace be used in the Solomon running shoes instead of these things? Tnbis would be a reason not to buy the solomon runbners... Please advise... thansk! ~: 0
Very helpful video couldn’t of figured it out without it thanks!
Thank you so much for this video! :) 👍
Hugh is Da Man!
$10 shoelaces with plastic parts that wear out and break way before the shoes ever do. Bad system. Had to buy the whole kit for one broken clasp replacement. Just get shoes with normal laces.
agreed. The system broke on one of my shoes, in about a week. Had I known you couldn't find a shoelace to fit for a regular tie shoe, I 'd have bought something else. I hate these things.
Works and worked so well for more of my walking shoes .... good system
Is it possible to just ditch the quick release system and use the same laces as ordinary laces??
I am curious about this since my quick release broke..
Answer is.. not really due to the holes being so small. :/
Didn't show the hardest part of getting laces in clasp.
That's because it's impossible.
I was pausing video after each step going through needed supplies, as to follow along since this is an instruction video. In the same fashion i continued through the video. He says “these laces can be used for ski boots and tons of styles, but for this style (xa pro), go ahead and cut the loops off the end”....i had same style, xa pro’s, so i paused and cut the loops off. Pressed play, then it goes on to say some older versions of the same style/shoe have a loop down by toe and those styles you do need the loop... FFS you just told me to cut them off!! There goes $9 laces!
You've learnt a great life lesson here that you won't forget. You should be thanking them.
I feel bad for laughing
Just did the same thing 🙃😣
Great shoes but go for laces.
Also the lace holes are so small you can’t convert from the wire to laces.
Can you use the wire as ordinary laces?
would have been nice to put a link in the description👍
My clasp thing was different and easy...nothing to assemble. I couldn't see that part of the video very well....like when he attached some logo?
Can you reopen the male and female part that you closed at the end? Is there a way?
Nice vid! I wanted to ask if they could be used on a different boot brand. Thanks.
Great shoes, poor shoelace design. One piece of advice is to clear up the holes with a paper clip or something before feeding the new ones through. I just changed to regular laces, thought just using it for hiking.
I love the sneakers, but the shoe laces are a nightmare. I have had two pairs, and in both cases the shoe laces have broken. The shoe laces are expensive US$17 plus shipping on Amazon, and then trying to get the laces through those holes is not like what this guy is speeding through. It's hell on Earth, folks. I am not buying anymore of these sneakers, because I can't pop $250 every two months when the laces go bust and the sneaker is intact.
I have the Solomon SpeedCross3, The little plastic parts for the laces broke after I wore them about 10 times. The channels for the laces are so narrow you can't get new (Solomon) laces through them. Even laces specially designed for this shoe don't work. So basically I wore the shoes 10 times and now need to buy a new pair. Not Solomon though!
Having the same issue. Ridiculous.
@@alexpirie8182 Me too. Will never buy another pair of quick lace Solomons, or Solomons, given this type of lacing they provided, grrr.
I had the same issue but made the holes straight with a fork) And successfully put the laces through the laces.
its a pain in the ass, these re-lacing system sucks
Neve again, I can’t even get the locking mechanism open and it’s been sent with the little sprocket thingy already inside and closed up…
Nice knife.
Special shoe-lace replacing knife.
Where do you get the replacement strings? Amazon has some but the slider is already put together and can’t thread strings through it! Great shoes-horrible shoestrings!!
Benim biraz önce bir ucu çıktı mekanizmayı söküp tekrar satın almadan yapabilirmiyim
Thank you
Absolutely impossible to see what you’re doing with your fingers always in the way.
Bought my first (and only) pair of Soloman shoes , X ULTRA 04.
Three months of easy wear, no hiking, just every day shoes. The laces failed.
They failed because of a serious design and material flaw.
This is universal as evidenced by the number of videos on this very subject.
Why should anyone who bought Soloman shoes with this complicated, weak, lacing be
forced into buying new laces and installing them . This is a SOLOMAN problem.
The failure of this design is not the buyer's problem or responsibility.
Soloman should offer a no charge replacing/lacing service with free pick-up, re-lacing
and free return shipping, or a full refund of the cost of the shoe/boot.
just the fact that you need to make a video to explain your costumers how to change Sholaces 🤷🏻
IMO, Salomon created a solution for a problem that didn't exist. I've had maybe six or seven pairs over the year, got really interested in the X Ultra's, tried them on and hard pass. Not only with everything you clearly need to go through to change laces, but you can't dial in a fit with the lacing. It's all or nothing. Salomon has a rep of change for the sake of change. As a lot of gear companies do. I'll never, ever understand that. They had enough of rep that they'd always have a base. I'm hearing a lot of bad things over the past couple of years about their stuff crapping out early. It's a drag.
Thank u very much!!!
Somehow my easy overhand knot will not allow the caps to snap together. Any suggestions?
I had the same problem. I removed the knot on the female end. Then made a small loop and fed the loose end part way through the hole which doubled the width in the hole. I pulled it tight, snapped the caps and it's working.
I decided to ditch the end snap caps because I could not get the knots small enough to fit inside the snap-caps. So I just knotted the lace-ends, and tuck them under the tongue thing that is there to hide the loop underneath. Ridiculously complicated lacing system.
Thats a terrible sistem😒i prefer de traditional laces.
The knot for the male connector has to be very small. The male connector could be slightly bigger. I don't like lacing Speedcrosses. There could be some kind of crimp to connect the laces together...(?)
idiots skipped over the part I needed the most.
So... what if you DO have the older shoe and need the loops???
You two make a cute couple
Good vid but the barrel design for clasping the ends together is poor. knots at each end prevent the clasp from engaging. All they had to do was give a little more room inside the female section.. what a pain
Having the same issue right now...
@@alexpirie8182 Ditto.
Exact same issue on my end. So fucking annoying. Even with the tiniest of knots on both ends I am unable to clasp the two clips together.
Me too.... any success? And what was done?
@@ozricus I manipulated mine by continuing to melt it with lighter and push it hard into the hole with tweezers. 1 hour for one lace - painful!!!
Why? Solomon Why? Boots fit great and feel great, there’s no need for the cryptic lace system! Give purchasers the option to use your overly technical unnecessary convoluted lace system or not. Include a pair of normal laces in the box! Using a pen knife, matches should not be required to change laces. Not to mention one needs little hands/fingers to tie tiny knots. Just sell plain places.
Also using a toothpick or fork to make the holes more open before threading with a tube to get the laces through. Ugh !!! I lost count of how many times I said 'ridiculous' while threading these (with help from another person!).
İf you are young without a metal hip that does not hamper flexibity and causes pain when bending too much to tie ordinary laces
I cant get the last clasp closed, I had to use tools to get this to work.
What's the diameter of the quicklaces?
Needed way more tools than a lighter......wish I'd chucked the shoes and bought a pair of Aasics
Can't see what you're doing whatsoever!
How to change it with the loop?
If I would have known you cant replace the quick lace with traditional laces I would have never bought them. The quick lace system sucks, they constantly loosen up and they break easily. Great boot but terrible laces!
My sentiments exactly. I don't know what moron created this system but they can have 'em back. If it has this BS on them don't piss away your money.
Save yourself trouble. Just buy a standard lace shoe. The end.
Sucks that those boots aren't goretex.
Very poor instructional video. Show the viewer the piece clearly and which direction, clearly. All I can see is some fingers clasping small items. Where do the “toothed” round pieces go. You mention them at the beginning and then……Really poor guys. Lots of talk is all
Pretty hard to get the laces through. No way was the knot going into the smaller clasp. Take the lighter again melt the lace and make a knob not a knot. I just hope it will hold.
if only Salomon could keep their boots in stock
Directions with that lace are not real clear about you tying a knot- thanks for the video
Show the GD ends! I can’t see through your fingers. Next….
I'll never purchase Salomon again and warn others away from them too.
can these be bought somewhere? if so, can you point us to it?
You kinda whipped thru the gear shift part like it’s easy
putting the laces through the clasp is major pain in the neck--terrible design in the interest of "innovation." Love the shoes, but this lace design system is just idiotic. It has been almost an hour, and I still on the first shoe.
Took me about the same amount of time. RIDICULOUS design.
Can I communicate with you?
This is like the worst fever dream ever! Without a doubt, these are the best looking, most comfortable shoes I’ve ever had….. but, with the most horrendous shoe lace system ever devised for man! Sorry, it’s just not worth the time or the unnecessary headache, my brother! See ya! 👎👎
Couldn’t see a fucking thing.
That was terrible. Your hands blocked everything.
Please stop asking ‘’ whats up’’. People can’t answer ya know
Explanations are not thorough and it is difficult to visualize what he is doing as his hand block too much of the visual field.
Here is a common sense pro tip for you. Tie the knots before you cut the lace than you would use a lighter to melt and fuse the tip ends.
I'm not taking "pro tips" from someone who doesn't know the difference between "than" and "then"
@@dfsw Exactly. So you better keep on doing it YOUR way.
xxgg - I couldn’t get the knot small enough to allow the connector to push together. Wish I’d seen your advice beforehand.
As a workaround, I didn’t knot the lace, but melted enough of the end of it to form a “button.” It doesn’t look as strong as a knot but, hopefully, it’s enough.
It's pretty ridiculous that #Salomon have designed such a stupid lacing system that takes nearly an hour to change the laces in one pair of shoes, requiring not just the supplied threading-tube, but also scissors, matches or lighter, a tooth-pick or other sharp object, AND a friend to help! And then make a video that doesn't match the components, and doesn't show how to fit the laces inside the snap-caps at the end. Salomon - please just go back to using normal laces that thread through eyelets like real shoes.
Totally ridiculous design.
Salomon laces are junk. They are the reason I no longer buy their shoes.
