…when the world still had a certain charm
One thing I noticed about the Florida clip was that hardly any Americans were overweight in 1968
And 56 years of McDonald's, Wendy's, and Taco Bell later ... 🍕🍔🤣
That'd be because it wasn't until the 1970s that High Fructose Corn Syrup was created and rolled out, and that a major meta-study incorrectly linked fat consumption to heart disease while ignoring the sugar element, thus setting in motion a huge dietary change that has been harming us all ever since.
One wonders how many people will notice that the obesity problem suddenly kicked off after the 70s, before everyone actually asks what changed in the 70s...
@@NicholasBrakespear home run of a post
@@NicholasBrakespear that, and the fact that back in the 70's there wasn't a McDonalds and a Dunkin Donuts sitting on EVERY corner
@@jim2lane That's secondary. Those two changes - the advent of HFCS and the study linking dietary fat to heart disease - are the reason "junk food" became so successful. Which is to say, so profitable.
They became profitable, because the increased sugar content, coupled with decreased fibre content, meant that food was much cheaper to produce (it doesn't go off, and thus can be transported further).
Fructose is highly addictive, it is metabolised like alcohol, and suppresses the satiety hormone. From the 1970s onwards, the food industry effectively had a legal way to follow the same market practices as drug dealers. And of course, in addition to being legal, their poison went in everything - sweet food, savoury food, drinks.
The notion people have, that burgers and fries are unhealthy, misses the point. A real burger and fries? Absolutely fine; protein, good... sure, a bit too much vacant starch in the fries, but potatoes aren't the greatest evil.
But you go to McDonalds, you're not eating a burger. You're eating a highly-processed, highly-preserved bit of meat, smothered in condiments that are full of sugar, drinking beverages that are full of sugar and salt and caffeine (to make you pee, so that you want to drink more - gotta love coca cola), and usually you'll have something ultra sugary to go with it as a treat, like a milkshake or a donut.
To put it simply though, there was a perfect storm brewing in the 1970s; massive financial motivation, coupled with a lot of corruption, and a sprinkle of flawed science. Everything that happened on both the market side of things, and the consumer side of things, is a result of that storm. And we're still caught in it.
Ah the days when women weren’t plastered in tattoos and piercings
same as men... it's so silly making of yourself a picture that nobody is going to look at tomorrow...
I could imagine this kind of travel video was what my parents and grandparents watch before moving from New York
Cairo looked much better then, than it does now
OMG YES, its a 3rd world country now
@@airwriqyes indeed
Because its tourist spot duh
Progress isn't inevitable. To wit, Trumpism.
And the difference between 1973 and 1982, just the airport alone!!!!
The Miami one is gone. Now nothing but high rise condos that block the sun after noontime. Oh you want a beach chair? You can rent one for $150.
OMG Those stylish cars from 60s! ❤❤❤
What a fantastic time!
So many colourful cars! 🚙
I love the nightlife/neon sign clips. So dreamy!
I like this video. These seem like pleasant places to go!
Wonderful idea!!! More of it!
Thank you :)
Too bad Mexico and Florida have turned into such $hit holes😢
Watched every second of this one. How i wish we lived in times like that.
You do realize that only the very rich would experience this travel? for the rest of the people it was work work work work work work and maybe a football match on sunday
@@Blackadder75 I was speaking of living in the 1960s. There is nothing wrong if you have been successful and have money to travel.
We do.
the time when people was polite please thank you words in every day use
what do we have now the cancel culture, me me me, professional victims , not taking responsibility of your actions
I am so glad I got to live in some of that time frame and what have the youth of today lost
Thank you!
Old Ben Kenobi telling me about modern Florida is pretty cool, I guess
The 'priceless Book of Kells' - so why isn't that the lady turning the pages wearing cotton gloves to protect the precious book?
I wasn't aware that it was just a modern practice to protect precious artefacts by wearing gloves. Or maybe some people didn't wear gloves, despite being instructed to do so 🤔
💖
Thank you.🍃

"50 years ago Florida was a slumpy wilderness" - and now it is about to go underwater thanks to human-induced global heating.
That was supposed to happen back in 2012. Oopsie.
No it isn't. You need to get to the beach more.
Rainbow logo, unsubscribed. Hope it was worth it.
Why?
