we used to stick plastic to our old single pane windows, that used to make a huge difference, especially with the wind whipping through. i have cell shades now and double pane windows, i keep them closed and it seems to help with the heat staying inside.
Hello and a deep thanks for this and your Bali blinds thermal video. What can you say in comparing effectiveness of cellular blinds to a thermal blackout or similar curtain for keeping out the heat? In the case of direct sunlight or in indirect sunlight radiant heat gain?
Thank you for testing this! Did you test the effectiveness of the shade when leaving 8-12 inches open to be able to see some view outside? That's my concern in blocking the entire window, in my case for blocking outside heat from coming in but still want a little bit of view.
cheers bud. ordered my blinds

I found on my black out vs light filtering shades, that the blackout kept identical rooms about 1 degree cooler.

Opening the shade allows for air circulation / convection and defeats the purpose of the shade. So it wasn't tested for.
