I do professional board repair everyday when it comes to soldering irons you don't get more with more expensive ones. The important thing is to get a t12 cartridge style tip that has the heating element in the tip, not the old fashioned ceramic heating element that the tip sits around. There's tons of knock offs that can be had for as little as 20-30 bones. I have a hakko but I almost never use it and use my knock off t12 i got for 25 dollars on amazon. Also for board repair 2 soldering irons is much more valuable than 1 valuable one. It makes removing smd components very easy like smd resistors and leds. A good iron stand that preferably has a spot for brass shavings and a sponge is also a good investment. I don't use my hakko station much at all but I do use the stand.

I'm more passionate about this these types of things as a career rather than other things, which makes me wonder if I even need to go to college to learn all these things.
The problem is that there aren't really any schools that teach this kind of work. Everyone I know who does it is either self-taught, or has an electronics engineering background for product design/testing. I'm self-taught, and you can get pretty far just by watching others, learning, and practising - but the catch is that I have a lot of gaps in my knowledge for EE theory. When you get into the maths of how to calculate component values and stuff, I get left behind big time. Ohm's law is about my limit 😅
Have a question I'm using a Acer Aspire A315-54. What happened was I inserted the charging pin on a USB port and the wires where exposed on it. Smelled like the pins where burning and when I inserted the charger on the charging pin it showed that it's changing, switched it off and now it can't charge or switch on.
My guess is that one of the secondary power supplies on the motherboard has blown up. I'm working on a board with a very similar issue to yours at the moment, but I'm waiting for spare parts to arrive. In my case, the power chip the drives the USB port power had burnt out, and taken the 5v regulator with it as well. Once I've replaced those chips, the board _should_ work again.
Tv repair men didnt have these schematics back in the 80s and 90s yet they still managed to fix the tv / vcr without a schematic. Heck even today we have repair men that dont use schematics to find a bad component.
Hi mate can you talk about ground where it goes to (ground duh) but not always! In a laptop it usually goes back to a metallic part of the chassis but doesn't that mean you could get a shock. I have a gap in my understanding
This is actually an interesting topic... I'll see if I can do a talking-head on this one at some point to cover the basics as best I can. The short version is: Theoretically, 0v is ground. But if the device is on a fully-isolated power supply, the device's 0v rail might not connect to the earth pin of the plug. This is called Floating, it's 0v relative to the power rail of the device, but because it's not directly connected to earth, there might be a potential difference (voltage) between 0v and Earth due to static, charges in the air, etc. This is why some laptops (infamously macbooks) can give you a faint tingle when on-charge, because you're touching the Device Ground (0v) and Earth, and sensing the potential difference between the two. This potential should never be enough to actually give a shock, but it's hard to go into detail there without real-life examples.
@@Adamant_IT thanks for the explanation man I'm working through your board basics at the moment, not far in yet but from what I'm seeing it's very well presented. I've done basic repairs but never component level, it's satisfying to bring something back to life, so here I am! Basic electrical knowledge and fault finding with a multimeter would be a good video IMO. Cheers
Hello, I have no experience in board repair at all. I know the basics of what makes up the board. How long will it take me to become a good technician?
On two occasions, in the video, the physical board is held up to compare to the board-view on the screen... Both times, the board is held upside down compared to the image. Just an observation. ;-]
hi Adam, i am trying to use OpenBoardView program you mentioned here, did some random download of several .brd files and none of them are managed to open with it. it always shows "There was an error opening the file: (*path and name of the file*)". Am i missing something here? btw i am using OpenBoardView v8.0 in windows 10 OS.
Hmm... should be that simple. The problem is that due to the copyrighted nature of the schematics and board view, there's not much I can do to help, as I can't send or receive any files of that kind to test them for you. I've only looked at the Apple BRD files, if you're testing with other brand computers, those might be less reliable. I don't generally use board views for non-apple devices.
@@Adamant_IT one of some files that i downloaded is intel galileo reference design that available to download directly from intel's website, so i don't think it is restricted to view due to copyright thing, isn't it?
Aha, I just downloaded that same file and also couldn't open it. So there must be some kind of format issue there. I'm not sure of the nuances of BRD files, but I think this particular one needs fancier software.
@@Adamant_IT ahh.. relieving to hear that it is not just me who can't open it lol, so it's not my system then. May I ask for your suggestion about other good alternatives to open brd files? of course freeware is preferable.. :)
do a system restore bruh... should fix the issue. Also check for malware. Doesn't sound like a hardware issue because the consistency is, well, too consistent.
It would be nice if someone, other then in Hindi, would produce a 1,2,3,4,5, on desktop motherboard trouble shooting from the plugs clear to repair on a dead motherboard. Checking here you should get, and if you don't then do this, and or this...... It would be nice to be able to get a schematic or have one shown for the board being worked on to help learn. I have tried for weeks to get a schematic for a 100 to 200 series gigabyte board, but they will not sell and online I have only gotten viruses. Thanks

In my case, the power chip the drives the USB port power had burnt out, and taken the 5v regulator with it as well. Once I've replaced those chips, the board _should_ work again.
@@Adamant_IT Would you document it with a video and I'll go through it and see if I learn something. Thank you
Sir please where can i download these .brd files from.
is there a name for the logic board or is it just called logic board
And subscribed... Thanks for the information!
Amazing and interesting work👍
Is it the same for TV boards
Good introduction and great tutorials. Keep them coming . Thanks
Tv repair men didnt have these schematics back in the 80s and 90s yet they still managed to fix the tv / vcr without a schematic.
Heck even today we have repair men that dont use schematics to find a bad component.
hi.i would to ash regarding your power suppy..were i can buy with the same one?i have mine but it does not give amps without shorting the test
probe
Hi mate can you talk about ground where it goes to (ground duh) but not always! In a laptop it usually goes back to a metallic part of the chassis but doesn't that mean you could get a shock. I have a gap in my understanding
This is actually an interesting topic... I'll see if I can do a talking-head on this one at some point to cover the basics as best I can. The short version is:
Theoretically, 0v is ground.
Cheers
Sir, I am a photo copier technician. Can I know how to find circuit diagrams of photo copiers such as Toshiba e-studio 257?
Where can i get the board view file for HannStar J MV4 94V-0
Hello, I have no experience in board repair at all. I know the basics of what makes up the board. How long will it take me to become a good technician?
Self taught no school
What is meant by "live booth ok'"?
On two occasions, in the video, the physical board is held up to compare to the board-view on the screen... Both times, the board is held upside down compared to the image. Just an observation. ;-]
I’ve tried searching for hrs for a schematic for a intel dx79to. With no luck could anyone help me out
Very well spoken video.
hi Adam, i am trying to use OpenBoardView program you mentioned here, did some random download of several .brd files and none of them are managed to open with it. it always shows "There was an error opening the file: (*path and name of the file*)".
Hi, I have a NVMe that needs repair. Possibly voltage regulator due to short. Can you do a repair of m.2 NVMe?
Not something I've looked into yet I'm afraid!
Do you do repairs for people?
Sir, do you have any idea, my pc restarts after every 30 mins exactly. Is it a motherboard problem?
do a system restore bruh... should fix the issue. Also check for malware. Doesn't sound like a hardware issue because the consistency is, well, too consistent.
Very informative video! Thanks!
liked the video for the motherboard art on the wall.
new subs here.. thanks for the video. more inspiring videos to come.
Thanks
sir...where i can download file of laptop board?
