3 Simple Hoop Earring Designs #1: A Silversmithing Tutorial
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 сен 2024
- This tutorial shows how to make 3 different interesting hoop type earrings. There are tons of variations possibilities with these, so have fun experimenting! I would categorize these as beginning level. The stones on the second pair are 5 mm faceted Citrines. The materials for these can vary, but for these ones, I used 18 gauge sterling round wire, 20 gauge sterling round wire, 14 gauge sterling square wire, 1.6mm OD sterling tube, 22 gauge sterling sheet, and some 3/16 inch fine silver bezel strop in 26 gauge. As always, I use hard silver sheet solder and My-T-Flux from Rio Grande.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, as I've taught people for most of my life. This hobby turned into a fun side gig for me for years while I taught public school. Love the idea of the interchangeable charms!!

Genius.....yet again you knocked it out of the park. Your directions are so clear and helpful. Will definitely be making the second design in multiple diameters as I get asked for hoops all the time. I also love the hint of having different dangles for buyer to choose from. Thank you again for your time and effort.
What a nice thing to say Lee! I’m really glad that you like these:)
Great earrings and very clear instructions and demonstration. Thank you. Just a side note: the four-leaf clover has absolutely nothing to do with St Patrick. He used the shamrock, which has three leaves, when explaining three persons, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, in one god.
Thanks Bernardine!
❤❤❤❤❤
Super nice earrings, Chad. Three more projects to add to the to-do list. I love hoops. The hardest part seems to be avoiding making them too heavy. These seem like they will be nice and lightweight.
The three ring ones may be a little heavy, but the other two are really light. Thanks Bees!
I would love in the beginning when your goung through your sketches to recommend other types of wire or product that will compensate for the things you have if I do not have them that will help me out tremendously! Happy holidays from Equality Jewelry
I will try to do this more. Good suggestion Dustin!
Hi 😊
I have been hoping you would do a video on hoop earrings. Thank you so much for this. I've never attempted to make any as of yet, but after seeing your video, I definitely feel like I've got the courage to try.
As always, I find your tutorials great to watch and easy to understand and follow.
Thanks again 😊 xx
Thank you Kim! I'm glad you like them:)
I want to make them all! Thanks Chad.
Sure Melinda! Glad you like them:)
So happy you did this video I just got requested to make hoop silver earrings thank you so much for your share
Glad I could help:)
yeah wearing heavy earrings all the time can stretch the ear lobe as you get older they drop but heavy earrings can cause a bigger drop and stretch the hole
Nobody wants an ear slot:)
I would love to see a demo where you hammer the hollow hoop earrings so they're hammered around the earring except for where the wire is connected and the air wire goes inside the tubing. Thank you. I have a picture if you need it.
Hello Lauren:). Do you mean hammering the tube itself?
@@chadssilversmithing yes, I have pictures, but I can't send them on RUclips
Great earrings, such nice versatile designs. Thanks s much.
Thank you Pat! Glad you like them:)
Love them all, they each have their own character. Awesome silversmithing as always Chad and thanks for sharing. Take care and have fun!
Thanks Gazz!
Good lord, man … math AND science lessons included in this tut? Are you Sure you’re a RETIRED teacher? 😆 Seriously, tho, great tutorial on hoop earrings. I never thought to use tubing and I’ll have to try that next. 😊
Ha! Thanks Kim:)
Great each one of them!❤❤❤
Thanks Cecilia!
Inspiring. Thank you.
Thank you Reid!
Hi Chad - loved the video and the finished products. Did I miss you finishing the first pair? How did you shape them, and what happens with the thin solid wire to make them fasten together? Thanks so much. Jilly
Hello Jilly! I just shaped them around the ring mandrel and bent up the end slightly so it fits through the small hole drilled near the end. Hope this helps.
@@chadssilversmithing Thank you. I'm going to give it a go!
Would you recommend round or square wire to make a ring setting or pendant setting?
I use both a different times for various styles. I use quite a bit of square, as I like angular things.
Thanks so much for making the hollow hoop earrings. I was super excited about how you formed them without the tubes getting kinked. A question I have though, since you didn’t finish the war wires on camera, what keeps the ear wires in the other side without the wires falling out since the wire is 20ga and the inner diameter is larger?
Hello Tamara! I just cut them so a tiny bit projects into the rear of the tube. You have to flex the earring a bit to pop it in or out:)
I have Learned such a lot from you, thank you. Please could you tell me what scissors/shears do you use? Thanks!
They are just Fiskar's craft shears. Thanks for the nice comment Fiona!
Hi can you come to Australia and give me private lessons because I can’t leave the house due to phobia and I have been working with sterling silver for awhile now put need more lessons in flat metal . Just put it down as a holiday
Hehe! I would love a holiday in Australia:). Wish I could afford it!
Hi Chad, could I ask how long you made the wires for the discrete pair of earrings (2nd pair) so it would just tuck into the hole, also how does the 3rd pair ear post connect? I dont quite under how they are secured into the groove... Thank you so much
Hello Mazkay:). I think they were about 5/8 inch or so. On the pair I made, that allowed just the tip of the wire to pop into the tube. On the last pair, I cut a deeper groove underneath so it would seat in there better. In hindsight, these ones are hard to put on, so I might have come up with some other way to make the closure easier.
Third one, how does people wear them? I mean the the wire, it's soldered at one end and the other goes behind in the middle.... 🤔
Those you’ll have to pull the wire to the side slightly, slip them on, and move the wire back gently.
@@chadssilversmithing oh got it now👍 thanks, have a great day!
Like what’s that flattening thing? And that round thing called?
Custom made bench block. Basically a little anvil. The cylindrical thing is a dapping punch.
What tools do you need exactly to make simple silver hoops?
Hello Twin House Studio:). Hard to answer that question in a comment, but you might want to check out my basic tool video. It might address most of that question: ruclips.net/video/agEo6P3T1Ps/видео.htmlsi=6La_aSY9VEf17Jza
@@chadssilversmithing thank you :)
