    Dirk Pitt, death-defying adventurer and deep-sea expert, is out to the ultimate test as he plunges into the perilous waters of the Pacific Vortex -- a fog-shrouded sea zone where dozens of ships have vanished without a trace. The latest victim is the awesome superb Starbuck, America's deep-diving nuclear arsenal. Its loss poses an unthinkable threat to national defense. Pitt's job is to find it, salvage it, before the sea explodes. In a furious race against time, Pitt's mission swirls him into a battle with underwater assassins-and traps him in the arms of Summer Moran, the most stunningly exotic and dangerous toward disaster, Clive Cussler plummets his hero onto an ancient sunken island-the astonishing setting for the explosive climax of Pacific Vortex!

    My first Clive Cussler novel was SAHARA. Didn't realize there was a long list of Dirk Pitt adventures. Really enjoyed this introduction to many of the characters I loved in SAHARA... Sandecker, Rusty, Al Giordino. Looking forward to following their progress in the next novel.

    "capable of cruising at 125 knots, through the timeless depths at 2,000' beneath the..." Ahroo? Cruising at 125 knots? Uhh, I'm not a boat guy, but isn't that awfully speedy? That's 144 mph lol

    I am left deeply confused. How is it that he ends up with twins later in the series if all he did was “kiss her softly” about three times? Is is like that old myth about getting pregnant from a toilet seat?

    About hr 5 why does it repeat? It's most confusing 🤦‍♀️

    • @patmans88
      @patmans88 9 месяцев назад

      Yup 3:58 it repeats the "they killed him!" wearing a muumuu part. You have to skip ahead to about 4:58 to not waste an hour repeating.

    Oof. The very next paragraph: "The Starbuck was like a thoroughbred jumper at her first horse show, "chafing at the bit, ready to show..." The saying is: "Champing" at the bit, not "Chafing". Good Heavens. Three minutes and 22 seconds is as far as I'm willing to suffer through this though, I'm afraid.

    I gave it a good shot but this story is so ignorantly racist in its portrayal of Hawaiians and the reader so dead set against learning the actual pronunciation of the Hawaiian words in this ridiculous story- even though you'd think that's part of his job- that I just couldn't waste any more of my time.
