    //// THE ROYAL WIND MUSIC
    The Royal Wind Music is an ensemble consisting of twelve musicians from seven different countries performing on a collection of 45 renaissance recorders. The group was founded in 1997 by Paul Leenhouts and has captivated a steadily-growing worldwide audience ever since with its performances of instrumental music from the period 1520-1640. Their wish to bring Renaissance music to life in an authentic and accessible way results in programmes that juxtapose rarely heard compositions with well-known repertoire. Playing entirely from memory and without a conductor, The Royal Wind Music is also known for its engaging performances and ability to communicate with the audience.

    You are also my own chiropractor, yoga teacher and physical therapist. I got an Adris Dream alto and I always got squeaks on only 2 notes--legatto from hi g to hi a. I checked my fingers and air and hit my head with the pearwood head joint a few times Then I straightened posture and the devil was a crooked jaw, mouth and lips pushing air to the sides of the air way
    Now I'm squeakless I'm an ex squeaker Squeaks begone Thank you for the 'How to hold' video

The music snippets in this video are so incredibly beautiful - wish I could have been at the concert. This kind of music is the reason why I started to take recorder lessons.

    Very nice sampling of the group's repertoire, played beautifully! However, I would like to offer a sincere prayer to the current Grand High Poo-bahs of University recorder pedagogy: "Oh Great Teachers de Blokfluit (yes, you, Nederlanders...) please deign to save us all in the audience from the pestilence of watching recorder players doing that extremely distracting and excessive open-mouth nibbling at the beak as an articulation technique. Amen." And while I'm still in reverent prayer: "Tell them that they're making us all dizzy out here in the dark when they're making giant circles with their instruments. Amen, again."

    Thank you Sarah. I really loved that last piece you said was an Encore from your concert. I only wish it was longer, . I love the lively tempo, and bright spirit of the piece. P.S. Which one are you in the group? the frame is too small to pick out individual faces, except for those I know. I recognize, Maria, Stephanie Brandt and Hester Groenleer, but can't recognize anyone else.

    • @Team_Recorder
      @Team_Recorder  6 лет назад

      Hi Charles! We do play it as an encore, but also in its full version during the programme, which is about four times longer! It's a really fun arrangement :)
      In the group I have long blonde hair and a black jumpsuit on (hard to see I know!) In 'De Wert' I am over on the right, playing the C bass recorder, for example, and in 'Froberger' I'm in the middle playing F basset, and in 'Willaert' I'm in the middle playing tenor. And ah Stephanie isn't in this video - I wonder who looks like her!

      Sarah Jeffery / Team Recorder yeah you wouldn’t want to finish a perfect cadence by singing an obnoxious UUUUUUUUUT on the tonic, so over the years “do” was used instead because it just sounds so much nicer :)

    Hey Sarah! I really love your videos! I have a question, how can you get a smooth transition between E and F, and also B and C on a soprano recorder when playing legato ?

    • @zijdezacht3738
      @zijdezacht3738 6 лет назад

      B and C is just a matter of fingering. Instead of B=0 1 play B=0 2 3, then for the C you only have to lift up finger 3. For the E and F, it's the curse of us recorder players...

    Hello Sarah! Is the Royal Wind Music plays onlly renaissance repertoire? Thanks! :)))

    • @RoyalWindMusic
      @RoyalWindMusic 6 лет назад +3

      Hi Noam! We mostly perform 16th and early 17th century music, although sometimes we arrange earlier and later repertoire as well.
      Our setting does not aim to "reconstruct" the practice of consort playing in the Renaissance and in that sense we allow ourselves some liberties, like playing Bach on Renaissance recorders or combining recorder sizes that would probably not have been played together in the past. We do have great respect for the aesthetics, structure and content of this music and hope to "translate" it meaningfully for contemporary ears!
      Thanks for your interest!

    Thank you for sharing. Those were wonderful clips. Question - can everyone in the Royal Wind Music play any of the recorders, or do you all specialize in one/couple/several?

    • @RoyalWindMusic
      @RoyalWindMusic 6 лет назад +2

      All members of RWM can play any of the recorders. For some players, the large instruments are difficult because of the stretch required to cover the finger holes, especially of the left hand. In that sense, yes, there are a few players with a special affinity to certain instruments, like the sub-contrabass!

    • @Team_Recorder
      @Team_Recorder  6 лет назад +1

      Exactly! I unfortunately cannot stretch to the 3 meter tall subcontrabass.. (it’s my left hand ring finger that’s the culprit) but the rest I can! Though height isn’t a measure of stretch- some of our shortest members of masters of the biggest instruments! 💪🏼
