The dutch rule is not only that the game is being abandoned when something hits an official, it’s also that the game will be stopped if anything literally gets thrown on the field. So you could throw a plastic cup onto the field (What happened at PSV - Ajax) and the game would still be paused for 15 minutes.
Extremely excessive rule. We, the dutch, are known to make a big deal out of something small. This doesn’t help the problem but only makes it worse, as drunken students who are there watching the game, or cocaine sniffing hooligans, or even people from the opposing team in the home-crowd, can literally just cancel or disrupt a game for the fun of it. Dutch football is broken at the moment
