Cool. The original Toad rules are in the back of the book. I think the token you held up was Alignment rather than Fate. The final Crown of Command action from the first to fourth editions is one of the most house-ruled elements of the game--right from the first edition. I've never played a session where it added anything to the game just a tedious die roll every turn. Each to their own though. 🙂

@michaelhill6453 It was an alignment token, I was just slapping this video together real quick. The video was really more for people who haven't been playing for the last 30 years plus. I've played many games where the person rolling the crown of command was defeated by another player before they could take everyone out. No one has to take my suggestions, it's just how we like to play.

I agree. I like the new rule much, much better. The old rules were sweaty and took too long.

the digital 5th edition is coming out on November 14th, my best friend and I were introduced to Talisman about 10 years ago by a mutual friend of ours. Our first intro to the game was in person with the physical print of the game, we were absolutely hooked after that. We couldn't find a good copy of the game but one day we saw there was a Digital edition, bought it and all the expansions. We've been playing almost twice a week together against a bot to fill in the third spot since then. So happy we'll be able to gradually introduced the game to our other friends with a fresh new edition of the game. To be frank the old digital edition was a little to complex and busy to introduce new players.

I know of a different ending. After killing the dragon (or not - whichever) whenever it is your turn you actually command someone to die. If they have a shield or whatever they can roll a die to try and survive (or use spells or whatever), and if they do not (or they fail of what they tried to do) - they lose a life. I like my ending better 🙂

You have just returned to the original rules :D

Many of the "new" rules where already houserules. The crown killing ending was flawed and you can be in a loop. That was lame.

The assassin blocks the combat attack die for all encounters. Including the dragon!! 🐉 that’s getting a bit to op perhaps. On the other hand maybe it’s just cool with the updated rules that you suggest with the dragon. 🐉

They changed the end to make it take less time I guess. My longest game in 4e lasted about 6-7hours, not a lot of people are ready to comit over 3h let alone grind for a whole afternoon :D you can always change the ending depending on the group/table

If you had a straight choice between buying the 4th or 5th edition, which would you take? I prefer the art of the 4th edition, especially the board. The new board lacks the "scrolls" look and seems too modern for high fantasy? What have you found?

@Vlad65WFPReviews def would buy the 4th edition no questions asked. I got this cause I didn't wanna pay big money for the 4th.

@@stevensmagiccastle Hi. I did get the 5th edition as it was easier (cheaper) and the co-op expansion is almost out too. Btw, the token you showed was an Alignment token (good, evil neutral). (I see that has been pointed out) The Talisman vets I know say the fate tokens new ability to let you move exactly 1-6 spaces is a positive game changer to end hours of frustration. We played a three-player game in about 2 hours which is actually a good thing.

I watched another youtuber who I think i agree why they changed those rules was to try and speed up the game a bit. Luckily they still have the option to play the old way in the back of the instructions.

@Kain5th oh yeah that's certainly why they did it. And I get it, but if you have time for a long game, I just think the original rules are more fun at the end of the day.

Yes. I kinda agree. Toad really sux. That said with the new fate system you can use this to go directly back to pick up your lost items. Since you can choose the amount of steps. If not someone else steals your stuff before hand though. I will say becoming a toad in the game can turn you into a loser really fast. I really like the ending you made. Defeat the dragon, then get the crown and so forts. Awesome.

I have a huge sentiment to Talisman, it was a game which introduced me to board games decades ago. I do not like the latest edition. The miniatures are cool and that's pretty much all good I can say about it. The new publisher could do one of the two things. Either use the experience of previous editions and make the most classic Talisman ever with all its quirks or introduce radical changes. Essentially make a completely new game: think Runebound 1st edition vs Runebound 3rd edition. It could be a whole new chapter in the game. Yes, that would not be the Talisman everybody knows, but that would be the whole point. Sadly somehow the publisher made a game which is kind of the same and yet worse than all previous editions.

So you've turned the game back into a grindy, luckfest that takes days to play. Bravo 👏
