Something that I have learned while watching your videos, is that I never really had an “art” or “style” inside me, i was just acquiring equipment. Its sooo easy to buy cameras, lenses, lights, filters, and then running to the backyard to record flowers, and then put it away and watching 100 videos like yours. So thank you for letting me realize that im just a fan of the hobby, while not really an artist that creates. This has given me calmness, because i was previously frustrated that I wasnt creating, but this helped out a little. Your work is amazing by the way, thanks for sharing.

Just a thought which I would like to hear your opinion on: You said that one should develop their own style from early on... Now I thought, what if a (completely) different style fits a specific project better? I hope this makes sense and thanks for sharing your thoughts on this :)
Hey Ranpar. It’s important to build your own style so in the long term you’ll be able to shoot more projects that fit that look. The goal is to build a style that people can recognize you for. If the project has a specific look that you’re trying to capture based on the pre-production conversations, you need to be adaptable enough to shoot it (can’t always have it exactly your way early on).
Every DP has a style. They have to. Being adaptable is good yes, but DP’s that shoot a lot of work that they hate just leads to burnout. There are doc cinematographers, commercial cinematographers, etc etc. It’s best to hire and work with the right people for the right job.
