Really like the idea of drilling the pilot holes before punching. That would surely give this novice a lot more confidence in getting it straight and centered.
Nils, I watch you from Russia and your videos help me in my blacksmiths way. I restore and use old Soviet hammers and your beautiful hammer could make my progress in forging faster. With respect from Russia. Hammertime)
I’ve hated the notion of a pilot hole for a long time. I have made many great hammers without a pilot. However, I have come to appreciate the idea lately. It gives more than a good chance of centering the eye. I also embrace hand forging. But I always do as much as possible under a powerhammer. Including punching the eye. I’m old. I’m mad. And I detest work that my tools can do for me. Nils just showed us excellent work!
Have been wanting to start forging for a while now, but haven't been able to convince my parents to allow me to start. If I won this give away, it would definitely help convince them to let me invest in some forging equipment. I think the work you do is excellent, keep up the good work! Hammertime.
Nils, you are by far my favorite smith to watch. Everything from your techniques to the way you explain everything. It genuinely makes me excited to watch your “Hammertime” videos. 😅
Great job on forging the hammer. We need a weekly HAMMERTIME! Would love to see a big hammer making convention take place with all the best hammer makers out there. It'd be a blast.
I love your work. Very precise and professional. A joy to watch. And you were probably reading a lot of minds. For those of us who do not own a power hammer, it would be a real treat to see you craft one entirely with hand tools (belt & angle grinders allowed!).
Greetings from Ireland. I am thinking of taking up blacksmithing as a hobby, I've done several blacksmithing jobs in the past, more out of necessity than just for fun. Something like this would inspire me to begin.
Go for it. I started 4 years ago and have now become good enough for people to pay for my work. I can't make a living out of it, but it sure is great to have people appreciate my work.
Hammertime! Love the videos! It's gotten me interested in blacksmithing so I'm currently building myself a gas forge. I'm about halfway through the build process but I'm really excited and a hammer like that would be an excellent way to start smithing
Hey Nils i actually just started my blacksmith journey. It are videos like yours that fascinatet me and are the reason i started to want to become a blacksmith to begin with. So it would be a great honor to own one of your hand forged hammers. Hammertime Thanks from Germany^^
Hammertime! Nice video on making the new hammer Nils! I am dabbling in casting and plan to use my casting furnace as a forge and a small vice/anvil to get started in forging small items. The hammer looks great and would be the perfect first hammer for anyone starting out. Keep up the good work Nils!
Hello! I am new to blacksmithing and don’t have many tools or hammers just yet. I have been watching your videos for a while and have found them very relaxing and informative. That hammer is absolutely beautiful! Hammertime
Hammertime. Thanks for giving us a chance to win. I am making my forge now that I am retired from the Army and can stop moving around and have a workshop all to myself.
great video as always nils. i have my own blacksmith that i started a few years ago whith my grandfathers old tools and anvil, i have been putting up making my first hammer for some time now but after watching your video i have decided that its time... hammertime
Fantastic work as usual Nils, even before you mentioned it I was thinking “wow, clean lines and great symmetry”. Well Hammer-time is pretty much what smithing is, either hand held or mechanical, there is a hammer involved somewhere. These hammers are up there with the axes you make, all functional and all things of beauty.
As much as I would love that hammer, I am just glad that you take time out and create this content sharing your hammertime with us so we can all learn.
"Hammertime". That is a beautiful hammer and I'd love to have it. It looks perfect for the work I'd like to do but there is no way that I think I'd be able to make my own. Thank you for showing this and offering up this hammer.
What a great piece. Well done. All I can say is Hammertime! I am indeen one of those who find themself in need of a new hammer. Best of luck to everyone else. Cheers
Great hammer! I've started forging some months ago, forging a hammer like this will also be a great goal for me, but before I need to improve much more. Thanks for sharing Hammertime
I really love your videos.....hammer or axes....Would love to do mine, but don't have all the stuff yet nor the place for. Glad to see people like you keeping on telling the old art of handmade & forging of tools...Hammertime !👍
“Hammertime”! This would be excellent I have just finished getting a forging set up on the cheap going to be forging tongs this weekend! A good hammer would be the best thing to happen to me this year!
Nils, That hammer turned out nice, I'm not in the market for a new hammer yet, so I'll let somebody else win it. Thank you, for taking time to build, film, edit and post this video.
Hammertime! Nice video, beautiful hammer. I am a weekend blacksmith/bladesmith, and all my hammers are modified cheapo hammers. My most recent is a hardware store ball pean hammer, where I flattened, then twisted the hammer head, to create a diagonal pean. It's a little smaller than I would have liked, but it turned out great. It would be awesome to have a quality hammer so I hope I am the lucky one chosen.
Summertime is Hammertime….Wonderful job and a great hammer, keep working and enjoying a wonderful blacksmith ingenuity cheers from Luxembourg 🇱🇺 Europe momentary in Italia 🇮🇹
I don't need a hammer-at-this-time so I'm sitting this one out. I don't really care what you make, so make what you need or want. It's just relaxing to watch the bright hot metal go darker and darker as you shape it it, and have the process repeat until "the thing" has emerged from it's hiding inside a basic shape. It was there all the time but it took flames and hammer strokes to lure it out. Same reason I watch Thorbjörn's channel.
I'm always amazed how effortless this all looks. I've forged an axe recently, which is similar enough in some aspects, and it was freakin hard work. I would certainly appreciate that hammer for my own Hammertime :D
Really cool hammer Nils! In the past 2 years i have grown a passion for forging but i do not have good enugh equipment. This hammer would help out alot, Thanks and Hammertime!
I've been injured for a while but even if I don't win is about that HAMMERTIME again... I'll always hurt but my God given time here to create won't last forever! It's a beautiful hammer, one day I hope to try my own hand at making one!
Hammertime. I'm a newby, love to make something usable from chunk of metal. Thank you for your videos, really inspiring. Love watching you, Torbjörn Åhman and Rigoni Ironworks
I started last year and even tough i do not have a real blacksmiths hammer i love the craft. i have lots to learn and looking forward for a good "Hammertime";)
It would be a great honour to use this hammer on one of the ocean going tugs i am captain on. Forging is something i started a year ago with forging a knife, but i would be very happy to forge at home as well when i retire after 50 years at sea, keep up the good hammertime work
Hammertime! I have just started setting up a forge to go with my leather shop and I hope to make my own hammer one day! Until then, yours will be greatly loved and cared for. And properly fed 🤣
Your hammers couldn't have turned out better. You can't get any closer to a Swedish cross peen hammertime than a Swedish guy forging a Swedish hammer. Great job and keep up the good work Nils!
Setting up my forge currently. Working with second hand tools or trying to make them myself. Now it is hammertime or time to get a proper hammer. That would be a great addition and the base for making new tools.
Hello from Japan! One more captivating video, and a beautiful tool! It's really difficult to get your hands on a good hammer when starting forging. I am struggling with a cheap, re-hardened one for too long... It is time for a new hammer. It's Hammertime ! Good luck to everyone entering the giveaway!
Well, I almost have my forge finished. Never forged before, but I think that hammer would be one to be very proud to own. Not just for me but for anyone who appreciates a craft such as this.
I'd love to see a hand made hammer! I am a big fan of the design of these hammers they're really nice looking!! I have been wanting to try one for a while. I just bought 4 feet of 1045 so I think now is the time! Thanks for sharing- Hammertime
Hammer time!! *Commences baggy-pants dance moves. For real though, since I first started watching your axe making videos I’ve coveted your hammer. I really like the proportions and the long pein. I’d love to see you make one of these with hand tools to make the process more accessible for me to attempt to make my own. Love your work 👌🏽👌🏽
Hammertime 😮 Hey Nils Ogren! I’m an excited new smith with nothing but the passion for Viking culture, a particular interest in axes and, a willingness to learn. Your videos are PERFECT for getting me started. I would be honored if you picked me to receive your hammer, it would absolutely be my favorite tool from someone who has turned their passionate hobby into both a successful and entertaining brand. Thank you for the time you’ve put into these videos, you’re my go to RUclipsr for this content. Much love, Josh.
Hammertime. I've been wanting to get into forging but had to get my M.S. under control first and just did. I retired from being a steel worker. So knowing metals grades and how they act would make forging a little easier for me.

Hammertime! Hammertime! Hammertime!
Really like the idea of drilling the pilot holes before punching. That would surely give this novice a lot more confidence in getting it straight and centered.
It makes it faster and easier to get the biscuit out too.
Don’t sell yourself short. You’re an extremely talented blacksmith! Credit for your skill is well deserved! Oh!! Hammertime!
It's always fascinating to watch how different smiths approach the task of making a hammer.

Hammertime! Your videos have inspired me and a few mates to get into smithing, an Ögren hammer would be next level!
Very nice job, love the control you have with the power hammer, some might say, “It’s Hammertime”
