  • An ascent of Ben More from the lay-by on the A85, summit height at 1,174m (3,852ft).
    An early start to this one, as usual. We parked up at the lay-by on the A85 just passed Crianlarich. This is the standard route of ascent to this one, although there are several different routes to be followed.
    After a walk along the A85 approx 1/4mile you come to a small clearing on the side of the road where there’s a gate to gain access to the farm road at Ben More farm. This is followed until you come to the steep “staircase”, from here it’s a straight shot up the mountain! As simple as that!
    Descending to the bealach between Ben More and Stob Binnein is very simple and is very easy to navigate as there has been erosion of the footpath from heavy footfall. Makes it easier to follow. Once at the bealach, the decision can be made here to tackle Stob Binnein or descend down into the Glen.
    On this occasion we descended into the Glen as there was reports of heavy snow and ice under foot on Stob Binnein and we didn’t have the appropriate gear with us this day.
    I really enjoyed this walk and didn’t find it as daunting as some reports had made out. Take your time and keep turning around for the views!

      Thanks for the great comment Christian. My… you didn’t shy away and only went and picked one of the biggest and steepest Munros! Well done! It’s a great Munro and one I’m sure I’ll get the opportunity to tackle again. Thanks for watching. ATB.

    well done lads. We did the 2 at the start of march 2023. Great hills. The rules of ben more are, when you see the sign to Ben More, keep following the path up. When it levels out, you know you have reached the top haha.

      😂 that sounds about right @chrisusher7097. I do like the fact of , when you’re done climbing, you’re done climbing. No false summits or anything! 😂 thanks again for watching. ATB.

    Think this must be the second time I've watched this, I felt the need to rewatch it as I'm doing these pair soon and it was good to familiarise myself with the challenge ahead.

    How hard is it? Coming from someone that just recently done the Cobbler

    • @mountainspeak390
      @mountainspeak390  4 месяца назад

      Hi, it’s hard to say. The Cobbler is a longer hike but a far gentler slope. The angle of attack on this one is a lot more severe. Suppose you would just take more breaks as needed. There’s nothing overly technical on this hike but nav could be difficult in bad weather. Happy hiking! 🥾

    Right decision to call it after the first Munro. Last week, we did 2 out of the 3 Beinn a'Ghlo Munros then turned back. Poor visibility and a snowy slope. Be back another day

    • @mountainspeak390
      @mountainspeak390  Год назад +1

      It's always hard calling it off. Even when you know it's the right thing to do, it still stings! However, these are the challenges that we face and have to overcome as much as actually climbing a mountain. Well done on even having a crack at Beinn a'Ghlo. Not an easy hike that one! Thanks for watching. ATB.

      @@mountainspeak390 no Beinn a Ghlo wasn't easy at all. The first one was a very steep climb especially! Carn Nan Gabhar is the one we didn't do. Looks like we'll have a 14 mile walk when we go back and do it sometime. Hopefully we'll actually get views next time
