Parkrun is Failing Females

- Women's Rights Network believes that females have the right to fair competition in sport at all levels, but parkrun is failing them.
Since 2019, parkrun's policy of self ID has meant women taking part have been disadvantaged. This video explains the impact of this unfair policy and that rather than really listen to stakeholders, some of them represented in this video, parkrun has insisted on continuing with this flawed sense of inclusion. Wake up parkrun senior management, this problem isn't going to disappear. Be courageous and do the right thing.
This is a brilliant video. Well explained and to the point. Keep women's park run for women only. And that means adult human beings who were born female.
Great video. Such a shame that parkrun have now taken down all the gender and age records. They were part of the fun. The answer to the problem was not this, but a simple open category for those that have issues with their birth gender.
I’m a male, and fully support your cause. It amazes me that if I comment on a post in support of your cause, I get called transphobic. Unfortunately women aren’t as high on the pyramid of intersectionality as trans people. I on the other hand, a straight white male am right at the bottom 😂. On a serious note, I’m disgusted with how parkrun have handled this, and for them to lie about why they have made these changes, and to not even mention the trans issue in their ‘blog’ update is appalling.
Tbf wanting to exclude trans people from a community activity is transphobic
Inclusion of men means exclusion of women
Thank you for speaking up for women.
Thank you WRN for fighting for fairness in Park Run along with everything else you fight for
Save Women's Sports make parkrun fair for women
Women's sport doesn't need saving, because there isn't anything threatening it
Brilliant - their conduct on Twitter has ensured my family will never take part again.
As a male that had a number of age group records as a male, I totally agree with this. If you where born male you should not be allowed to compete in the female category's.
same with older age brackets. there is no policing at parkrun - anyone can claim to be a 60 year old woman
ohh dear....it seems their idea of inclusion is incredibly twisted and in fact uninclusive.
Our society is really going bonkers!
Categories were invented for a reason. Protect women's sports
Women's sport isn't at risk
@ethandalton6480 really?? With men taking places on teams and medal boards? Lia Thomas displaced at least 5 female swimmers when she stole her title. You can fool yourself; the rest of us can see where this is going. Wise up.
@@FemmeNatal the same Lia Thomas who lost most of her races at that swimming gala? Yeah, really sounds like she's dominating and that women's sport is at risk
Great video, proud to be pictured in it. I love parkrun, it's so sad that they have decided to disrespect half their participants while they are supposed to be increasing female participation. I find it so insulting that for us it has to be 'just for fun' but males can enjoy the competetive element if they want to.
Thank you WRN. It’s extraordinary that parkrun allows men to cheat by running as women.
It's extraordinary to think that someone's would go through expensive and invasive surgery just to set a record at a parkrun
No surgery is required,@@ethandalton6480. A man only has to say he identifies as a woman. 95%+ of these men have had no genital surgery and have no intention of having it.
@@RuthLivingstonethey still take hormone blockers, which are not easy to acquire. Again, sounds like a lot of hassle just to win a parkrun
@@ethandalton6480 they don’t have to take anything. All they have to do is say “I identify as a woman.” This is happening in many sports. It’s grossly unfair.
@@RuthLivingstone can you please name some examples of that happening? Considering the hate that trans people receive, I'm not sure why anyone would want to suffer that just to win at sport, but if it is happening "in many sports," you should have no problem proving me wrong
It’s a race for men and a “fun run” for women tells you everything you need to know about how much Parkrun respect women as sportswomen and athletes. Parkrun is not being inclusive with their policy of allowing males to run as women; they are excluding women and diminishing women’s achievements. It is deeply misogynistic to allow males to compete in both male and female categories.
Was about to post the exact same thing. Women's sport is always belittled. I was a teenager in Australia and remember a local Aussie guy getting the gold medal for weight lifting. The newspaper did a four page spread of photographs. When a local woman won the gold medal in the heptathlon there was one small picture of her (admittedly on the front page) and that was it. My mother commented that the achievements of women were always treated as less.
What rubbish
Great video. Hopefully such a clear explanation of how parkrun are excluding women from their own category will make them feel less comfortable about their position.
They aren't doing that
Always thought about getting involved with Parkrun but after this news about the records and the categories I will not go anywhere near one now. Let women run with women!
You do realise the recent news is Parkrun changing their policies to remove records, and appease us transphobes? Their policy moved in the way you'd want it to, they no longer exclude women, I see no reason not to attend now.
What an absolute mess, a total unmitigated disaster! I don’t have an answer however the response thus far is also far from ideal.
Well done WRN. Boycott parkrun until they change their mind.
No males in womens sport.
In Canada, there are trans-women in volleyball, rugby, and believe it or not a 50 year old trans-woman identifying as a 13 year old female and competing in their 13-16 year old swimming competitions. See REBEL NEWS. Thankfully, there are some in the UK who are coming against this ludicrous practice. Women for women, I say. Thank God for all of you.
Brilliant video. Spot on!
💯
On a point of practicality - how do you think that parkrun should check age and sex?
parkrun just need a fair policy. We rely on mutual respect, community spirit and social norms to do the right thing. If there are occasions when policy is violated, parkrun can intervene with individual cases as they already do for other policy violations.
With their eyes.
In some sports (eg. boxing ) there are weight categories. Are there ever any arguments over how weight is measured ? Can someone declare their own weight ? 🤔( I'm not too knowledgeable on the science, but would some thing along the lines of body mass index be of use ? 🤔
Possibly .I'm exploring all different possibilities so I don't have any solid ideas yet. I noted the height and weight of 'a certain' runner in international athletics, who ran in the female category, was 175cm tall and weighed 70kg. I compared that to a top female runner who ran the same distance (800m) who was the same height, but weighed 60kg. I was 'just wondering' if the 70kg runner lost 10kg , how that would affect their performance ? I'm just 'running' through a few ideas, and I will have to give the subject more study ! @@icannaewatchthisvid
I sent a reply to your question, but I can't see it here. Where's it gone ?🤔@@icannaewatchthisvid
Has anyone else noticed that Kemi Badenoch is always standing up for women. She needs to be Prime Minister.
why can't sporting bodies just have a trans category in the paralympics.
I suppose it would depend if someone would be 'willing' to go in the category that they're told to go in ! If they've decided that they don't want to go in the 'male' category, they may not want to go in the 'trans' either. 🤔
Because being trans isn't a disability. But also there aren't enough trans athletes who compete at an elite level to form a category.
Bring back the records and add a trans category.
Great job ruining Parkrun for everyone.
Parkrun could've followed British Cycling and other sporting orgs y establishing Open and Female categories. Women are not responsible for the choices made by parkrun.
My mom is upset of this discriminations against women's my mom gets beatent by other males who are transgender
I think they should scrap results altogether ! 'parkrun is not a race ! It is a run with friends !' This is how parkrun is promoted. That's how it should be, for fun and fitness. Everyone could still set off at the same time and cross the finish line at the end. Anyone interested in their time can time it themselves, as many people do, and display their performance on Strava etc. Participants could still have their bar codes scanned and have their name published, in no particular order, to show their participation.🙂
Totally agree - a much better solution that takes pressure of those who want to actually run for fun without feeling pressured to race
Or women could start their own event with their own rules.
People are always looking for ways to change things. It is not a competition. The results are there largely so that individuals can see how they progress and not everyone has or wants a stopwatch.
@@davegb99 parkrun HQ is always looking for ways to change too. The name 'parkrun' replaced the previous one, 'UK Time Trials'. And the way they keep using the words 'The Feel Good Movement', they may be about to change again ! 'Tail Runner' has become 'Tail Walker'. Walking 'parkrun' is in ! When I started, 'Unknown' runners had there times displayed in the results. etc. I would agree with you about starting a new event. That's a good idea ! 👍
16 age course records across 1200+ parkruns is an incredibly small percentage.
Parkrun hasn't failed females. What you meant to say is that parkrun has failed transphobes.
@@S7Vmv an adult human female
@@S7Vmvso women who are in menopause, or who have had their ovaries removed, are not females?
@ethandalton6480 female is the egg bearers of a species. Regardless if those functions work or not.
How many women have to be denied their accomplishment before it matters to you? 10%? 25%? Half? And then what, when the proportion finally meets your threshold?
@@SoorAurora about 0.0001% of records are currently held by transgender women
Get a life. Who cares about records ?
