    In my opinion this is a honest test. Did similar test with Jeep Cherokee 2.8CRD that has LSD rear diff. It is enough for daily use but it can not be compared to real 100% lockable diffs like MB Geländewagen has. By pressing buttons you may lock central rear and finally front diff. That gives you equal speed on all four wheels and if at least one wheel has a traction the car remains in motion.

    As you got the answer down below. 1st make sure your oil In front and rare diff are new and proper % of mix with oil and mopar addin for LSD or buy dedicated good pre prepared oil for WJ and LSD. Depend of mix and oil, reactions in LSD hydralock can be shorter or longer, aork or not work at all. Also those hydralocks are getting used and it's ok to change them in old cars. Cost one of those can be around 400 USD, there are also custom ones, not from mopar, at last in Poland. After all make sure you have some AT tire not summer ones on sand. And to provoke system push the gas to the end which make wheel in the air spin and connects lockers. Mine do better than this 100 times. I use ro pass trough hole shape of tube where you depend just of 2 wheels all the time.

    Yes changing the rear end fluid and put in the synthetic 75w and 2 oz of friction modifer will help. I can do a brake stand with one on dirt and one on tar. Without the front driveshaft in. The Squeek is NOT from the axel but from the belt slipping when the rps drop extremely fast.

    I know it's an older video but common. Flush and fill ur diffs/transfer case with the proper amount of additives and you won't have your issues. My wife's 2000 WJ does not have those issues that you have......mind you, I make sure fluids are changed yearly or more depending on off-road abuse/water. As for 4-lo operation, hers stays locked front and rear acting like a fully locked 4X4 meaning both sides and ends turn at the same rate/speed when 2 tires are airborne in a slow crawl in first gear.

    The WJ Grand Cherokee's traction aid is basically a limited slip setup, only electro-mechanically enhanced. Because of the low mechanical advantage of the clutch, the system requires some amount of wheel rpm to effectively transfer torque to the gripping tire. Although effective enough in many situations, it still loses utility to the brake-based traction control system which works extremely well even at very low wheel speeds.

    Well I recently purchased an '02 GC limited and I am very impressed. This is also my first jeep. I have had 4x4's most of my life but this is the most capable(yes I know... What should I expect). Although I've only done very mild offroading in mine, I have took the opportunity to get opposite front and rear tires completely off the ground. Yes, the jeep was teetering. If my diff's didn't completely lock I could not tell. When the front wheel and rear wheel began to spin, I heard the usual noise

  • @Founas007

    nosamtoothug: Transfer case of Quadra-Drive I Cherokees has full time 4WD. You can choose 4HI or 4LOW. "Lockers" works the same for both (4HI, 4LOW), but at 4HI is open the central differential. Hope this helps. :)

  • @astrak1001
    @astrak1001 14 лет назад

    QT2 seems to transfer the power pretty well, it doesn't seem to take the extra RPM to get it transfer the power. Haven't actually had to use 4LO yet here in AZ surprisingly, but the Jeep just crawls over the rocks and even if only 3 out of 4 tires are touching the ground it still goes even in the slippery sand on rocks. Interesting vid though.

    @Founas007 Thank´s for your answer. Im happy to say i bought a 2000 GC Laredo 3,1 TD yesterday. :) I tried it a little bit today. I drove up a quite steep hill. Wet grass.. No wheelspin at all. I love the car already!
    Best regards Jimmy.

    I checked your videos and video called "jeep wj e zj raduno a pesaro" points your jeep works the same. Check for example 38sec of your video and you can see the rear passanger wheel don't spinning (locker doesn't lock) and at 1:17 drivers front wheel at backup doesn't spin. As I mentioned in my video, the Quadra Drive works, but it acts as limited slip and you MUST increase RPMs.
    BTW thanks for your videos, I watched them all :).

  • @Founas007
    @Founas007  14 лет назад

    @J1I9M7M4Y: It depends on how and what kind of terrain your driving in. If you want it to be more fuel efficient then get Select Trac and run on 2WD for hard surfaces. If your going offroading, then you need Quadra Drive. The Selec Trac in the WJ’s dont have any traction control, so you don't have lockers at all. Personaly I prefer QD. But if your main purpose is for highway use, then get Select Trac.

  • @bjrc1979
    @bjrc1979 12 лет назад

    I forget I'm limited on space here. Anyways, mine seem to work like an actual locker. Mine did not show any signs of slippage as with a typical LSD. I've done the test multiple times with the same results and without having to rev my engine to achieve full lock.

  • @seveseven
    @seveseven 16 лет назад

    Mine will come a lot closer to locking out than yours will, you might want to change your fluids and make sure you use the correct type. I've been high centered with my jeep with 1 front tire, and 1 rear tire on the ground, and had suffecient torque transfer to spin the wheels on the ground, just not enough traction to get me off.

  • @Founas007
    @Founas007  14 лет назад

    @DJELGALLO: Nope, it has to say Quadra Drive under the 4x4 label on the back door, otherwise it's Quadra Trac. They are two different systems.

  • @jms9618
    @jms9618 16 лет назад

    I thought this was a good display of the quadra drive. My work pc doesnt have sound but i have 2002 overland and it will sit and spin all day if you barely press the pedal you must lay into it to for it to transfer power to the wheels with traction but it does work

  • @TroyoVlogs
    @TroyoVlogs 10 лет назад +9

    You are totally wrong. I have quadra trac 1. And when you use it at street full time 4x4 that is the one you are using will be capable of manage almost all wet and dry situations. Because it lock central transfer case and rear and front limited slip diff work just as a locking diff but isnt the same. If i put 4low this will engage 100% locking front and rear shafts. So at low range you will use locking diff 100%. This way jeep rocks. It works awesome.

    • @Knochensplitter

      Quadra Trac CANT lock the Diffs, only the NV 274 center diff, thats all.

    Your diffs most likely don't have the correct fluid and/or friction additive. I've done similar tests with my WJ and it doesn't show any slip compared to yours. The "squeak" coming from your rear diff confirms that, as that is the Varilok slipping (not enough friction additive)

  • @dentondunn4346

    Replace the friction plates. Worn out brakes won't stop a car and worn out friction plates won't allow the varilock system to engage.

  • @garyolson3315
    @garyolson3315 10 лет назад +4

    Just curious, did you change out the transfer case and diff fluids with recommended Mopar fluids and friction modifier before testing? I have a '99 210,000mile WJ Quadra-drive 4.7, still works incredible. Quadra-drive needs to 'spin-up', especially with the passenger car tires you have. Fluids ARE important. TJ, XJ and WJ owner.

      +Gary Olson He's making Jeep look bad, a 4x4 is only as good as it's tires. I take my 2015 GC Limited off road all the time, but I swap out the tires If I know i'll be playing in the mud or snow all weekend.

    Agreed 100% i have a 2004 WJ Limited with of course QuadraDrive. This guy can barely make it up hills that I can literally almost idle up. Ive gotten the front right tire and the left rear tire off the ground completely and they lock completely within a few seconds. I think there is something seriously wrong with your jeep. This is why you were unable to find anything about it on the internet, because it works great!.

  • @tts60r
    @tts60r 12 лет назад +1

    my ass its not for serious offroading. It does better then almost all the stock suv's and trucks in its class. As the guy said below your clutches for the Quadra Drive system are completely worn out. Id get that serviced and I guarantee you will notice an extremely large difference. All of the situations you show in this video i have also done and had absolutely no problems. The locker kicks in after about 2-3 seconds on all 4 wheels on my 2004 WJ.

  • @autospecial1
    @autospecial1 6 лет назад

    They're not lockers, it is a limited slip front and rear. The transfer case transfers power to the front as needed unless put in 4 low. Even then the axels don't lock since they're limited slips.

  • @tomtran4431
    @tomtran4431 10 лет назад

    I had quadra trac I swap to quadra drive I used red line fluid for transfer case( because I went to jeep dealer I ask fluid for 247 transfer case they give me atf 4 )and both front and rear axle I used luca 75-140w.

    First: all videos was made in 4LO, with central diff locked.
    Second: all videos was made with at least 1300 RPM.
    Third: the "locker" worked, but not 100%.
    Fourth: post your test video to RUclips to see how it works

    I believe Quadra Drive I will work perfect n snow. As I said, the system is not bad, actualy it's very good system for a stock vehicle. But the lockers has a limit of torque they are able to transfer and front differential seems to be weaker ther the rear one. The new Quadra Drive II system is much stronger, check the second video.

    Check your fluids bud if they're not exact the right ones or they're worn out the giroter pump system of limiting slip won't work as well. That and I believe the quadra drive system maxes out at 60-70% of engine torque on one wheel not 100% as that doesn't even make sense because somehow the engine would need to magically know what wheel is getting traction.

    Looks like it was doing pretty good for a stock, VERY USED, 4wd jeep with crappy city tires. Rebuild that 4wd system to stock specs and I bet you wouldn't have the issues you complained about. If you saw the tests that jeep puts their new jeeps through you would realize it would be impossible for the quadradrive to not work how they said. Otherwise every jeep owner could sue them.

  • @funkmonster
    @funkmonster 5 лет назад

    You seem to have street tires on this Jeep which is the biggest mistake anyone can make. When it comes to getting up hills and over mud and rocks, tires are about 75 percent of what is going to get you traction. I could drive all your experiments in my 2WD Explorer with off-road tires. I did it often.

      Tires has nothing to do with the test.Actually the best way to test its having worn tires and having a properly working differentials and transfer case with the right oil and additives recommended by constructor. Think about it..this is terrain,what about snow and ice. The point is testing quadra drive, not off roading.

    75w140 synthetic oil with (Mopar friction modiefier 70 ml front and 120ml back), and amounts should be just right. anything else will give you poor performance. the law is to start with less Friction modifier and gradually increase untilt the trubbing stops... too much will cause too much slipping and your quadra drive will not work. I spoke to the local Jeep dealer and the mechanics said its a bottle in the front and a bottle in the back of the friction modifier... this is the lazy mans way of doing it and wont give you optimal results.
