Met him back in the eighties when he was performing at Exeter air show flying his Harvard. Not only was he a great pilot and put on a great display but I got to chat with him after. We just talked flying as I knew music was not what he was there for. He was fascinating, very humble and quietly spoken and very engaging. He struck me as the perfect person to share a pint or two with in a quiet old country pub and talk about everything as he seemed very intelligent and thoughtful. No wasted words, just a very interesting person to engage with. I so wanted to gush and talk about the music but I’m glad I didn’t as it would have not shown him the respect he deserved for his flying skills.

It was trendy for journalists not to like him. I used to get abuse from the staff in Harum (Enfield Town) and fobbed off in HMV anytime I asked if they knew when they'd have the new single/album. "Next Week" seemed to be the answer, regardless.
When Lorraine interviewed Gary many years back she commented on how "refreshingly honest" he was. Gary has always been the first to admit when things haven't gone right in his career but he's held on in there and proved his fiercest of critics wrong.
Went to the Wembley gig and it was piggin awesome! The only thing that could top that night was to shake his hand. His music has been with me since I first became aware of him and to see him live for the first time now I am 61 was an emotional thing for me. Numan was writing and singing about a dystopian future ruled by a totalitarian government by AI robots where free speech and critical thinking is ruthlessly surpressed over 40 years ago on the album Replicas. He was chillingly accurate. It's an incredible shame he is 100% with the bullshit narrative, as are 99.99% of all the other celebrities. He is at least double-jabbed and yet states he had it bad. Both of my sons have tested positive recently using the dodgy home tests and had nothing but mild flu symptoms. And yes, they are unjabbed. What I find shocking is the mental gymnastics with those that follow the narrative when they say they got really sick after having rolled their sleeve up. Unbelievable.
