    Congratulations on your excellent, non rushed relaxed delivering at a normal easy to follow/listen to speed. Looking forward to your Z8 coverage, in particular your 24-120 Z review. Thanks again Suscribed!

    I like the unhurried, relaxed approach you bring to your videos... Mixed feelings about the card maintenance software. On the one hand, the price wouldn't place too much of a strain on anyone's budget but... A few quid here, a dozen there, a hundred somewhere else - and we arrive at an annual total which may need a reconsideration. The second "but": I'm a mere amateur but I do shoot quite a lot, yet I've only experienced card failure once: it was a Sandisk Extreme Pro V30. I was reviewing images on the camera LCD and decided to delete the last but one as it was visibly blurry due to user error. I switched the camera off, then on to check some other shot I thought of, and realized all pictures I took prior to the one I'd just deleted were gone! I was pretty dismayed, switched the camera off and drove home. Once there, I took the card out just to give it a shot in the reader connected to my PC and... presto! The photos were all there, intact. I've no idea of what had happened in the meantime but I sure learned to resist the temptation of culling pics in camera at a location! Other than that, no card failing on me, and I've used SDs (Lumix, Olympus, Fujifilm, Nikon), CFs (Nikon), and an XQD (Nikon).

      Sorry to hear about your card woes. Nothing worse than that sinking feeling that you've lost photos. It's one of the reasons why I'm glad to be back to a camera with two card slots. I know £8 / year isn't a lot, but all these subscriptions add up don't they!

    After doing a lot of research and watching multiple reviews, I got the 512 GB Sabrent Rocket CFX PRO. Wow, it's up there with the best in terms of speed and build quality......but not on price!!!! (it's a steal) 🤩😁

    I picked up a Z8 last week and grabbed a 1tb Pergear Ultra and a 512gb Sabrent v60. No regrets with Stills to the CF and Videos to the SD.

    Hello Julian, I know my question may sound trivial, but I often wondered about the numbering of the card slots themselves. In the Z8, Slot 1 sits behind Slot #2. To me it would seem obvious to reverse the order, especially since the two cards are of different formats. Perhaps seen by others as an inane observation, but that's the stuff I notice and it often makes me stop and question why manufacturers do what they do.
    I especially enjoyed this video as I found it exceptionally helpful given that you mentioned the accumulation of different memory cards back to the days when you used your D850. Great video, as always and many, many thanks for the care and effort you put into all of your postings.

    • @jbairdexp
      @jbairdexp  Год назад

      Hey Paul, I'd never really thought about it that way! lol Slot 2 is lower down on the Z8 than slot one, so it depends on which way you look at it :-) Anyway, thank you for watching (as you always do :-) )

    I selected the Nextorage B1 Pro and the Nextorage UHS-II Pro card for my Z8. Both have performed flawlessly and write speed is incredible. I only shoot RAW and at 20fps I never fill the buffer. I am also using the Prograde CF Express B and SD reader and it is fast.

    • @jbairdexp

      I don't think I've heard of Nextorage before but good to add another brand to the list of possibilities. :-)

    In case you are not aware, you can also 'sanitized' your cards on your Z8 by selecting 'Full format' instead of 'Quick format'. I use Angelbird AV Pro SX 160GB. Good price per GB.

    • @jbairdexp
      @jbairdexp  Год назад

      Just out of interest, how long does a full format on your Angelbird 160GB card take?

    • @sinwong6612
      @sinwong6612 Год назад +1

      @@jbairdexp The Angelbird took 8secs for full format and 2 secs on Quick format. My Delkin Black 256GB took 7 secs for full format and 1-2 secs for quick format. The Angelbird sustained write speed is 1480mbs and the Delkin Black is 1530mbs.

    Hi Julian, One of my CF Express cards is a Pergear 128gb which worked perfectly with my Nikon Z7II, but my Z8 will not look at it.
    Even after a full refresh.

    • @jbairdexp
      @jbairdexp  Год назад

      Hi Douglas that's a bit of a pain. Perhaps that is something that might get fixed in a firmware update to the Z8?

  • @IanAtkins5
    @IanAtkins5 Год назад +1

    I downloaded the Prograde refresh pro software for my two cards (I have the 350GB and 650GB versions of what you shared) and I was surprised to see the cards had a firmware update. I can't find any information on what this firmware update included. Any ideas? I had never heard of a card having a firmware update!

    • @jbairdexp
      @jbairdexp  Год назад

      Hi, I was aware that firmware upgrades for cards were a possibility but I still haven't seen any - I just checked as well. It's odd that there was no description to tell you what was in the firmware though. Probably just improvements around stability I would imagine. Unlikely to make it worse though!

    So is it impossible to record video on both cards even when not recording in 8k?

    • @jbairdexp

      Unfortunately not - even in lower resolutions. I don't think you can even do it on the Z9 either which has two CFExpress slots.

      @@pinchofclarity I'm pretty sure it's the same story for all Nikon's. Might be worth checking the online manuals for the Z9 though. But yeah, I get ya, redundancy for weddings is pretty well essential.
