When people say punk gave thrash, they actually mean hardcore punk, which turned to hardcore. In a sense, hardcore isn't the genre, it's a separation from genres when kids were screaming about their problems and keeping positive, not worried what subgenre of punk or metal they categorized theirselves. Why madball and h20 will tour with each other with the same energy from the crowd.
