[World War II] After the downfall of the 3rd reich, on the 5th of May 1945, a strange battletook place in the Tyrolean Mountains in Itter, Austria. Soldiers of the Whermacht [German Army] and the US Army joined forces and fought side by side against the SS to save the lives of prisoners being held in the castle of Itter.
Under the command of American Captain John C. Lee and German Major Josef Gangl, the castle was defended by less than 30 German and American Soldiers together iwht the French former prisoners of the castle. Together, and with a little help from their Sherman Tank “Besotten Jenny” who was placed at the main entrance they managed to hod the 100-150 men strong Waffen SS unit at bay until they were relieved by the allies.

To this day, The Battle of Itter Castle in popular accounts has dubbed it the strangest battle of World War II. A realization dawned on me for seeing that the American nation helped their German counterparts to break free of Nazi Germany and help them get their peace and freedom back which is what they did do in the end. It made me come to know that not all from Germany were evil and here the Battle of Itter Castle was living proof that both sides that fought can team up and show that we can stand side by side and defeat a common enemy and thus begin fresh and start a new alliance and friendship and remain in peace.
I'll be honest, as a Finn had I been of military age in the immediate aftermath of the Winter war in the spring of 1940 I very well might have volunteered for Waffen-SS & fought on the Eastern Front for the two years I signed up for without complaint, but after that if I wasn't allowed to go back to Finland to fight the same enemy in my country's uniform & had somehow survived in the SS until spring 1945 (Finland turned its weapons on Germans in Finnish Lapland in late fall 1944 when the Germans didn't retreat fast enough to avoid fighting & ended its part in WWII by driving the last Germans out of Finland on April 27 1945-), I believe I would have taken the first chance to turn against the Nazi regime I got even if I knew it meant certain death.

The German Major sacrificed himself to protect one of the french prisoners from a Sniper
This is wholesome. It shows that some of the Germans still had a heart

Logan green most of Sabaton's songs are based on history... worth a listen and it is cool to have songs to help you remember dates.

the Battle of the Castle Itter saved the souls of many German soldiers, it's one thing to lay down your arms when you know your side has lost, but to willingly turn those arms on your countrymen & risk your life to fight those countrymen who have not accepted the reality in order to save the lives of POWs, I don't think there are enough words in the English language to properly express how much respect I have for those heroes.
