it (was) not that deep or difficult, you just had to walk in with confidence past the security guard and climb the stairs (or use the elevator, which at my visit didnt worked. And i even was on the real top lol
I am American whose best friend is Serbian. When I graduated from university, my parents bought me a ticket to Beograd to visit him and his wife. This building absolutely fascinated me when I saw it and has lived in my mind ever since. The risks you took to get in there, and the time you spent inside that tower overnight took some serious passion and dedication. Hvala. Greetings from Austin.
Hey, this is awesome. Man, what a flashback I just had. My mom worked at Genex her entire life, and as a kid, I used to spend a lot of time there with her at work. I knew the building like the back of my hand. Genex was among the first companies to start using PCs, specifically the Pentium 1, and before that, they used IBM workstations. Genex was the most powerful Yugoslav company, but during Milošević's rule, it was systematically destroyed, and they eventually succeeded. Believe it or not, there are still ongoing legal battles initiated by Genex employees related to the money they were supposed to receive at the time because they were either laid off or forced into retirement. Genex is the best example of Serbian foolishness: Is there any other country in the world, regardless of who comes to power, that destroys its best and most powerful companies? None. But in Serbia, it's different, and Genex is the best example of our foolishness.
Lol, same. That contrast was hilarious. Excited about ancient technology, literally just handled a decades older version of the technology 5 seconds ago
@@micahw83 Well he is younger,my parents bought me commodore 64 in 1986 ,it had cassette player ,then i saved for a year and bought 5.25 disk drive ,it was wow for me then .In 1989 i bought Amiga which had 3.5 disk drive
There is so many beautiful places in Serbia, medieval monasteries, ski resorts, fortresses, rivers, countless architectural styles, yet foreigners spend 99% of the time on the ugliest part, which is like going to New York to see ghеtto projects and not to see Times square, Wall street, Central park, Liberty statue and so on.
Wonderful video! I visited Genex Tower in 2018 and was able to walk straight into the elevator as the lobby was unmanned. I went up to the restaurant and found that the doors at the top few levels were all locked. I then took the elevator back down where a security guard appeared and asked me how I'd managed to enter the building. I simply told the truth, and thankfully, perhaps because I didn't speak Serbian and was obviously a harmless tourist, he just let me leave.
Fascinating how it's typical Yugoslav late 70s, early 80s interior. Same kind of the style could be have been seen in Ljubljana and Zagreb. In Zagreb, mostly some public/local government buildings are in this style, just bricks are usually - red. Such a socialism vibe there.
@@dzonikg that is a shame, i'm also quite a fan of it, even down to the more vintage 50s - 60s look i'm british but just spent 8 months in armenia and i loved that soviet architecture that's still plastered all over the nation, just left in the middle of nowhere are massive factories and such now in tbilisi and there's definitely a lot less in the city, but the architecture still manages to stand out
What an amazing experience and so good to see it hasn't just been trashed by those who have visited this place. Did you catch up with your friend in the end?
Genex was large company ,mostly tourism ,it had company call Yugotours which had more then 300 offices around the world , had own airline call Aviogenex ,but in 1991 with war and UN sanctions it bankrupted in 1992 and building was mostly abonded since then and was decaying .Residental part was where Genex workers lived
That flag isn't a flag of Republika Srpska, it's the people's flag of the Serbs, the one you use at the weddings for example. The official state flag is with the coat of arms, while the people's flag is like the Russian flag, only upside down. And people's flag also has the official status, according to the Constitution.
Nice building ,l hope government of Russia can reserve and restore that building again ,you're doing good work mr VAGA VAGABOND ,CONTINUE DOING GOOD WORK 👍 🎉
So many questions. I love this though, something about abandoned buildings where a lot of people used to be. I would have liked to see the residential area, just to see what it looked like.
If you are also looking for a special place in Belgrade with lots of cafes, bars, restaurants and the charm of something special, then you should visit the place where the Vinyl Bar is, it is so extraordinary. I hope you have a great time in Belgrade and best wishes from Berlin.
This is a video filmed recently inside, by a Serbian RUclipsr: ruclips.net/video/TtHBBxYHdas/видео.html It's in Serbian, but the images speak for themselves. Please folks, this place is under total reconstruction inside. This is not a tourist site. You may risk getting caught, arrested, or hurt by the debris inside.
Oh I definitely can't wait for your Serbia video tour!! I've been watching vids about Brutalist Style Architecture around the world, it's a coincidence that you show this magnificent tower. Are there many surviving Brutalist Architecture around Serbs and Europe? Or are they mostly abandoned?
Have I understood that right, that you climbed step by step on the stairwell up to the top of the rotating restaurant? Chapeau!👍👍👍 Or was the elevator still working?😱😱😱
Great video. But please be more careful on the roofs. Belgrade is known for it's strong winds, and that roof doesn't have any protective fence. We wouldn't like you to die from falling of the roof.
Serbian RUclipsr Kresoje Produkcija entered the building by daylight. The flags of Republika Srpska and Serbia are the same - red, blue, white. The state flag has the coat of arms on it, and the people flag doesn't. So, what you saw could have been the flag of Serbia.

People hate this kind of architecture because its associated with socialism and Yugoslavia, but look at the neighborhoods built in Belgrade in the modern day. Messy houses stacked on top of each other, cheap concrete poured unevenly, no parking or trees left between buildings, a slot club on every corner. This is the legacy of modern Serbia...
Can't believe your courage. It's so strange, because it looks as if the offices were left in a hurry. Surely companies normally leave the office clean and bare for the next tenant. It looks as if it had been evacuated, and then just left like that.
At 1:45 It's not just the flag of Republika Srpska. That is also a Serbian national flag. Red, ble and white without any symbols or coat of arms. A flag of all Serbs
Most state owned enterprises collapsed after the collapse of Yugoslavia, Genex was the largest export company, but it's hard to export Yugoslavian products when there is no Yugoslavia any more.
Well done, you have achieved something many have not managed to. You reached the round top and stood on top. Great video.

Mad respect man, I’ve seen many just talk outside the tower but never seen anyone actually make it inside and go all the way up!

99%? Možda 5%, ili čak i manje.
Ja kad bi otišao u Njujork ne bi me zanimalo ništa od toga što si naveo, isto tako su nekim strancima interesantnije ovakve stvari kod nas.
Not many westerners know of those places. Belgrade is the only well-known city and often for the wrong reasons.

Reconstruction works inside have started and during the day there are workers there.

Most of housing from communism era are still used, so they survived.
Have I understood that right, that you climbed step by step on the stairwell up to the top of the rotating restaurant? Chapeau!👍👍👍 Or was the elevator still working?😱😱😱
I didn't use the elevator because I assumed that in this case the security guard could suspect he/she was not alone in the building 😂

Some video were deleted by RUclips, some were deleted/hidden by me to avoid strikes and subsequent deletion of the channel.
