- Day 2 of my January video challenge, and I’m feeling the exhaustion from yesterdays marathon of a day! 😴 Today, I tackled pulling out Christmas items from my antique booth, but I’m completely stuck on how to reset it for the new year. I could really use some inspiration-what would you do? Let me know in the comments! Hopefully I can come back to this with a fresh mind and revived energy.

As much as you like the drapery wall, I’d love to see a soft looking lace layer over your dark brown sheers. I see hand crochet tablecloths from time to time in thrift stores. , also I’d love to see old windows that have some stained glass or interesting mullions hanging in front of your window. I’d also look for upholstered pieces mixed in with buffets. Stack books and then put something reflective on top. On your manikin, put a jacket and a scarf along with the wool skirt and brown blouse. I’d also hang a purse in her shoulder, and even have a pair of gloves peeking out of the pocket of the jacket. More is more.
Yes! I've definitely wanted to do more layering, just have been limited by my current inventory. Hopefully, today's sourcing will help a bit
I feel like you should move the clothing out front, kitty-corner the tall cabinet in the back, cut some greenery if you have any way to forage - to fill up blank spaces as you redistribute your inventory across the pieces.
Do themed resets like you've been doing recently sell better? I imagine it's easier to find inventory if you're not limited to a theme, though I only shop booths not run them so i have no clue what the impact is. Maybe you could do grouping with items of like color to catch the eye until you've got the themed inventory you want?
Its so empty! You might need to open your mind to new stuff to source and also dedicate serious hours sourcing thrift stores. Getting into spring now is a good idea. In my opinion, you dont need a stone wall, you have that nice brick in the back. You also don't have the time since you need to source new stuff😁😁😁. Its going to be fun coming along you this january.
I am opening a third booth today and have some Easter marked ready to go. I have had booths for 33 years now and I do get exhausted from it at times. 🙂 I love your themed booth and it always looks great. Your space is so large that I would think about doing the themed items in one large space or maybe like the middle and sides. But start sourcing lots of things that would complimemt but not necessarily have to be in your theme and it would help you to fill up your large space! Love watching your videos!
YES!! An early spring reset is a great idea. The muted tones were good but now please bring in some color. Replace the grapevine wreaths with something brightl! Bring in a few new light pieces of furniture and you'll be amazed how the creative juices will flow again!
That's a lot of empty real estate you're sitting on my dear. Maybe dedicating two or more days to scouring Offerup, FB marketplace, thrift stores etc.. to bring in inventory would be good which I think will provide its own inspiration. Walls I think should always be packed with art if they're empty, gallery wall style. I love the cozy inn idea and I pray that the thrift gods will be with you in your sourcing journey.
I just reset my booth day before yesterday. I filled it with natural textures that i can then layer as we get closer to spring instead of a full winter look this ywar and i have already sold so many pieces i have to go refresh today. Dont sleep on january and pass it off as a slow month. In my area people get excited to see whats new after christmas. I love your idea of a stone or wallpaper on the large wall! You will figire out what works best for you, your space and your inventory. Oh and the window! I used to have a large window in my old location and it would frustrate me. I did what you did and put curtins only to realize how much selling space i was giving up treating it like a window so the curtins cane down. I necer wanted to cover the wondiw up because of the natural light but i added some simple 2×10 pine board shelves across the window lower where small items were still shopable and hung large scale art from a brass chain up higher leaving lots of open space for light but getting so much more real estate as well.
I definitely feel like the windows have a lot of real estate, and I've been trying to do a better job at using them! Many vendors put larger shelves there or use shutters. I'll have to play around with some ideas! I do love your approach of the natural textures. Hopefully I can get this reset done as soon as possible, because you are right about January and I hate having my booth down. Tomorrow will probably be a big project day
Mandy if you can thrift some winter whites or creams or some reds for Valentine’s Day decor to help reset your booth! If you can’t find refs then go with some Easter items in pastel’s❤!
A wintery theme with pops of red for valentines day would be really fun!
Coffee filter snowflakes of all shapes and sizes on that window. Can the curtains be pulled way back or removed? Hang snowflakes or hearts from your garland. Then white and/or red pops of color everywhere using doilies or napkins to create little vignettes with your inventory.
Remove the curtains and put a long desk under the window, have a glass shelf or glass table in front of the window and display glassware. Remove the wreaths
I agree. Get ahead of everyone else with Spring-themed items. Animal figurines will sell year-round. I'm not a creative planner. I just start in one corner and style it as if it were my home, then expand and blend. You have a large space to fill up. I'm sure it will be great. Lol. I wish I had your problem of low inventory. I always have enough to fill multiple booths. Too easy to buy too much when there is such great stuff out there.
I spoke to someone today at my market and she also suggested bringing in spring/Easter items 😊
IMHO.... I like to see the windows, daylight, and outside. The sofa or smaller pieces to keep in open. Sending creative vibes to you.✌️. Perhaps set a table for 2,4 a romantic, or a Galvalentine, fun evening ❤💖
Love the stone wall idea! Maybe save the cozy winter inn idea for Christmas 2025? What about English cottage / countryside ... combining cozy and relaxing / resting (throws, pillows, teacups) while dreaming / planning a spring garden ... so gardening books, tools, botanical prints and garden layouts, sketches, etc., birds, woodland creatures, maybe add a little whimsy, soft spring colors.
Let's go shopping!
I'm enjoying your daily vlog ... and appreciate it takes a lot of work and dedication.
Reading other comments, definitely open up the windows. Maybe repaint ... a soft sage green could work well in your space and with your aesthetic.
@@kathleenlewis239 I love the English cottage idea. I'm ready to bust out my Victorian rose style items.
I liked the sofa you sold against the window wall. Setting that area up like a living space with the big windows helps people image the pieces in their homes.
Whatever you do will be very appealing because you always make it work.
Hi Amanda! I love watching your videos and seeing your journey. I hope you can fill up your booth space asap! May the thrift gods be on your side. In your space, I would love to see a gallery wall with artwork, oil paintings, tapestry, plates, wall baskets, etc. To fill up the blank walls. I like the peg hooks. Maybe you can source a buffet furniture to go underneath it. Because it's still winter, I think making everything look cozy is great. Use Lamps, rugs, blankets, mugs, sweaters, winter theme art, etc. I like what you're doing and I wish you lots of success! You got this! Sending good vibes all the way from Oregon!
Thank you! Textiles is definitely something I want to get better at utilizing this year. I've got a bunch of frames for the wall space, so I think we will get started on that soon!
Since you don’t have the inventory yet, I’d skip ahead to spring. I always struggle finding inventory in January, so if you start looking now, it may be spring before you have enough. As for leaving the booth empty in January, I suggest pushing some shelves and/or a long table all the way to the aisle and putting your remaining fall/Christmas inventory there. It’s very neutral and can certainly sell all year. That way you’ll still have some cash flow while you’re working on the bulk of the booth behind it.
Great idea! Making sure I still make some sales while updating the space is a priority. I think you are on the right track.
If you have spring stuff, it's definitely not too early. We started our Spring/valentine's reset today. We'll have pics up on Instagram tomorrow night.
Unfortunately, I don't have any spring stuff yet. Honestly, I have very little inventory at all. It's almost like starting from scratch again, so I'm a bit stressed. 😅 Interesting that you bring in spring and valentines so early! Do you feel like it sells well when you pull it in now?
@gildedgoodsvintage I'm sorry. I'm sure that is stressful. Yes. It one of our best ways to make sales for Jan/Feb. It's already on most people's minds. It helps that big box retail stores already have theirs out. We are thankful for the people who shop local and for vintage instead. 😊
I'm feeling stuck in my booth right now, also. It's a tough transition from Christmas to....winter?.....spring? As an idea for your blank wall, I used peg board but covered it with peel and stick faux brick wallpaper. You could try it with faux stone. It makes it really easy to hang art, etc, and the holes don't show as much when you move things around. Good luck to us both 😊
I have been selling in a booth for over 10 years, #1 priority is inventory. No theme is necessary, sure it's fun, I buy what I can find and put it in my booth almost immediately, I only have holiday things, which are pulled and stored. You can still do themed vignettes on shelves. If you buy what you like things will come together, my main category is farmhouse type items, but I still have shelves for art glass. I source mostly from estate auctions. Good luck, you can do this
January can be so hard, but you've got this! Your taste is impeccable. Get out there and do some shopping! 😅 Happy new year!
Living in Minnesota, I think of spring in two phases: the earlier March early April not quite winter look and the full on brighter green first flowers of spring look. Maybe you could could think about the winter\almost spring look: So silver and winter white, some warm wood tones but little touches of color throughout
I think that is the direction we might be heading for the first part of January!
Go for Spring. I would fill up your shelves with what you already have in there. I always love your themes but I would just put in what you have for now and then just add in more later. Jan-April are usually good months for me.
You can also make the bookshelves different themes so you don't have pressure to redo the entire booth a theme. When I'm at a loss I group by color or material ie woods, brass, whites, blacks, etc.
Thanks for the input. I love both ideas. I've started pulling a spring theme together. Now just have to focus on what to do for the next two weeks.
I think your idea of doing a spring reset is the way to go. I have a booth and I tend to go with whatever is going on in the "big" retail stores. Our local Hobby Lobby was setting up for spring about a week before December 25th!!!
Valentine's decorations pink,red and white hearts,clothes etc
Here is an idea. I love how inspired you are by the stone wall and also overwhelmed by the size of that project. What about creating a stone fire place with old world chimney? I love styling a mantle so it’s a great display piece and would help pull the space together.
Just an idea. I certainly feel stuck at time with my booth until inspiration meets energy. Cheering you on for the month!
Mantels are some of my favorite! I've seen a few booths in the market create a faux fireplace setup against the window wall. That would be a fun project to try and create!
Unblock the window wall, get artwork to cover the walls, or fabric, or wallpaper scraps. Definitely keep the peg wall, you don’t want to reinvent the wheel, put like colors together. Amanda’s Mercantile is a genius stager and sourcer in Virginia. Check her out.
Amanda really is a genius stager. I found a bunch of frames today so I think your idea to cover the walls in artwork is where I might be heading!
You always have such unique pictures that you put in your booth space-do you have one similar to the scene you described that could be your inspiration? What about putting reclaimed barn wood on your blank wall? I know whatever you do it will be stunning!!
Love the barn wood idea for this booth. Next to the brick would be awesome! I've been wanting to add depth and texture to the back of my booth wall in Montana and I think barn wood would be great. Like a really light weathered grey is what I'm after now. Thanks for the idea!
Maybe start with a more wintrey color theme like blue/ white, add silver pieces, mikk glass. All shades of blues. Thats what I'm going to try!!❤
I’m not so sure about mixing a stone wall with the current brick wall. Might be overwhelming to the eye.
peel and stick stained glass panels on the window!
Love your booth! Thinking about adding clothes to my booth, what are good brands or looks to source I'm clueless lol, thank you
Thank you! Natalie and I don't pick by brand, we usually go by age, style, color, and material. Cotton, silk, wool, linen, and leather items are all great picks. Then we try and find items that fit our aesthetics. I go for cottagecore and light academia, natalie goes for whimsi-goth or dark academia styles.
Of you don't have enough stuff to fill your booth, why not relocate the tall bookcases away from the window?
Do you use the peg rack to display clothing?
I haven't tried that yet! I usually hang art, baskets, or other interesting items that will fit.
