I would have to disagree completely. The concept of being an industry plant is the antithesis of being a true artist. The concept of an industry plant is when the record industry themselves try to emulate a specific style that's already worked for another artist solely for profit. The art itself is secondary. The "artist" is viewed as simply a commodity to exploit until they fizzle out, at which point they will find a newer popular style for another one of their "artists" to emulate.

Baby Keem blew up with Orange Soda, and even though the sound was unique, his growth was artificial. He still has a lot of personality and a new sort of sound, but there is very little you can argue against in terms of him being an industry plant. For me, this shows that an industry plant can be unique and innovate a genre.

not only does this assume a lot of things, it implies the sole purpose of the existence of music is artistic expression which is obviously not true? like pop is a thing and thats fine

@@smy_chris Good pop music still is a valid form of artistic expression. Case in point, the entire Black Moth Super Rainbow discography.

I think *talented* industry plants, can and do work, but I’d also like to say, using your connections isnt a bad thing. Bc if you had those same connections, you’d use them too.

    • @kingvampstan
      @kingvampstan 4 месяца назад +4

because the thing is there have always been talented industry plants but record labels should only exist to support and promote those talented individuals into the “industry”

Technically majority 90’s singers and RnB groups were industry plants because they would make them go through music training and stage training for months before putting work out. But that’s back when they believed artist development was the key to capital success. Now labels just find the trend, throw money at it, then dump it once it’s not hot anymore.

I think people respectfully more have a problem with people curated by others and presenting as though not, than simply being praised for a mass audience. It's cringey. Also I don't think Billy Eillish is amazing, she has 2 decent hits, talent is subjective though so IMO Ariane Grande is probably one of the most successful music industry plants ever, I don't like that her level of fame/money seems very unbalanced to her talent to me.
    These 3 guys suck too:
    Jack Harlow
    Slowthai
    Ice Spice

I feel like someone having connections or having extra help is just typical to getting out there and signed in the music industry for every artist. I always thought of industry plant to be an artist solely created and manufactured by a label in a very artificial, non-organic way. Upon researching, it seems to not be the case but even back in the day, people became successful by being signed (with or without connections) and being properly marketed/promoted to the masses so the idea of someone being pushed to the forefront in todays age just seems very typical to me, especially for a label-signed artist. Point being I don’t personally see a distinction that would separate most of todays artists from that “industry plant” label.

But the industry plant is always planted for the audience, not necessarily because of their talent. Even the name says it, audience is the rich soil, and they are a plant - unfortunately most times a crop.

Being a cherished musician has always been difficult throughout history. Because there are vastly more humans that want to be paid to sing than society will pay them to sing. Look on the plus side, if this were 1000 years ago, nobody made massive money off singing. Nowadays, like everything, if you win the singing lottery, you will make bank. SUSAN BOYLE comes to mind as to one who won the singers lottery.

An up and coming artist or musician being pushed by their record company or management is not the same thing as a "plant". A plant is someone who maybe had an image or a style and an executive or person in power sees that image and (mutually with the plants consent) takes control of appearance and artistic output.

  • @smy_chris

i feel like in part industry plants are just artists who have more accessibility to money than "standard" artists and just use it as a way to success bc why wouldn't you? its like nepotism babies in another font. like i feel its more of a system problem if anything, as per usual

I thought the 'Industry Plants' were given lessons and training on how to do everything that they do by the label. The people behind them run the show and the 'Plants' always remain under the impression that they have been discovered, taken a chance on their talents have been top tier since before finding a label.

I disagree. The market for music is limited, afterall, people only have so much time, so much wish to listen to music and there are only so many people in the world. When an industry plant makes it big, it takes up market space that could have been occupied by any other artist that's trying to make it big on talent alone.

Good thing this whole video is nothing beyond a mere opinion...
Cuz industry plants destroy the whole concept of what being successful is. No matter how crappy their songs are, they'll always been charting. And upcoming artists model themselves after "successful" artists that are liked because they were forced unto people, not cuz we really like them.
And lastly, industry plants are put there to change and manipulate people's perceptions.

the problem with industry plants is not their talent, it’s their voice. because they’re NOT ALLOWED to say ANYTHING not it the national heritage foundation playbook and KEEP THAT MONEY. have one of these plants say something about 30,000 dead palestinians or the working poor or the fact that there isnt one county in the US where a couple working minimum wage can afford an apartment. that’s the problem with plants, that’s why almost all of our media and politicians are plants. and even if the few that say say, they don’t do. you’re living in Vichy France.
