  • Thank you for the 1k likes on my vlog about this Liszt :) Keep reading for the behind-the-scenes story:
This was my third and last take. It was recorded after my Goethe class at Yale in the morning and I wasn't very alive in the beginning, plus there was construction going on right outside and workers were hammering bricks whenever I had rests in the music... Even though I only wanted to do 2 takes, I ended up with 3 in 2 hours and I was exhausted by the end :p I always find it strange recording Liszt in an empty room because I think I ride off of the live energy from being at a performance whenever I play Liszt, so it's very possible that I would play this differently live. Also, I can never play 100% of the notes - which is usually expected in a recording but more normal live... Anyways, I hope you enjoy this recording as much as I enjoy this piece :)

Perhaps because the number of those who have absolutely little but who are interested is getting smaller, and the amount of money makers is having less and less time to deal with beauty and culture. Provocation!!
Once more, thanks to Ms. Poon, also called Tiffany, for uploading and sharing this recording.
Erratum: sorry, Cecil St., you mean callers for this piece of music. At this point of time, Ms. Poon has the princely sum of 217,000 subscribers !!?

I also learn a lot, and I have the most fun, watching Tiffany's playing and vlogs.

I’ve learned a couple of Chopin pieces now and i’ve never been happier about practicing and learning hard for such beautiful pieces. Hope to be able to learn this one day.

I didn't care much for Franz Liszt's piano works; always considered them empty razzle and dazzle. Until I heard Tiffany's interpretations. With Tiff, Liszt's piano music comes to life, and gets a depth and meaningfulness that goes far beyond the usual in such a way that it makes me come back, and listen over and over again.

I'd suggest you listening to the following pieces:
      Un Sospiro
Transcendental Etude no. 11 and 12
      Consolation no. 3
      Sonetto 104 del Petrarca
      Les jeux d'eau à la villa d'Este
      Ballade no. 2
      Funérailles
      Sonata in B minor
If after listening to the pieces above, you still have the impression that Liszt's music is just empty razzle and dazzle then I have nothing more to say...

I’m not an exoert, but I listen to enoug piano music that I know what makes a good performance. It’s unreal how great your performance sounds. No details lost and no phrases cut off. It often frustrates me how (proper) pianists can play things without keeping a phrase going, or losing clarity or attention to the important theme. I don’t know this piece very well either, but I’m definitely rewatching this :D
