  • Trying out new AMP Advanced Modified Polymer Waterproof Kitchen, Bath and Plumbing Sealant by DAP!
If we told you there was a product that provides a 100% waterproof seal with the ability to be applied on wet surfaces, has a 30 minute paint and water ready time, and is specifically formulated to prevent mold and mildew growth for a LIFE- you’d probably think we were pulling your leg, right?
Wrong! According to our good friends at ‪@dapproductscanada5272‬ and ‪@DAPProducts‬ , their fancy new AMP (aka Advanced Modified Polymer) sealant does just that.. and more. Not only does it outperform silicone, its paintable too. For renovators like us, that’s HUGE.
The good news doesn’t stop there either. There’s a whole lineup of AMP products making their way to shelves near you, including: Window, Door, Siding & Trim Sealant, Concrete & Mortar Sealant as well as the product featured in this video, their Waterproof Kitchen, Bath and Plumbing Sealant.

I am not a caulker by trade but I am a carpenter in the remodeling business for 40-45 years. I have used a lot of different caulks over the years and I love AMP caulk. it tools easy
( usually a wet middle finger) and I love how sturdy /strong the caulk bead is when it is set. What I do not like about the product is it wants to keep flowing out of the tube. It does not matter if you use a dripless gun or if the weather is cooler, it will continue to flow out of the tube. So it is messy. A little thinner though and all is good.Other than that ,I love AMP.

This really tools easily for a smooth finish with water?!

Hello - I'm interested in more info about this product - I'm putting in a new polystyrene tub wall surround kit to mate with a porcelain finish cast tub ( not a claw-foot, normal looking tub - 40's era ) - -
In the past I've used MONO ULTRA Kitchen and Bath ( No longer available ) - - What I liked about the MONO was that it could be tooled with my finger and light soapy water to get a smooth transition - - - -
2 Questions : I've stayed away from Silicone because I've seen it stain the polystyrene yellow over time - Will AMP seep in and stain the polystyrene yellow over time ? - - - - Question 2 : Would I have to tool this out with mineral spirits to get that nice transition ? - - If so, will mineral spirits damage the polystyrene tub wall surround ? - - How would you recommend tooling this product under the conditions described, being Polystyrene -to- Porcelain bathtub ? - - - Thank You & good video. - Trish.

Those are some good questions! Unfortunately we can’t speak to the discolouration (we’ve never seen that happen- though I can’t say we’ve ever tried applying silicone to polystyrene either). For technical questions like that, we highly recommend reaching out to DAP directly. As for how to tool this product, our preferred method is to spray little bit of clear glass cleaner (like windex, just get the clear stuff not the blue) over top of the freshly applied bead before you tool it. This helps keep the silicone from sticking to places you don’t want it to, and allows for easier tooling (much the same way dish soap does). 👍

@@RefreshHomeImprovements - Thanks for the SPEEDY reply fellas ! ... So your answer prompts another question - ( ... your comment ) " This helps keep the silicone from sticking to places you don’t want it to, and allows for easier tooling (much the same way dish soap does). " - If you were trying to make a convex fresh bead turn into a concave finished tooled corner, will the over-spray of clear windex prevent proper adhesion where it spreads out a bit onto the tub and polystyrene wall ?

@@RefreshHomeImprovements I noticed in the quick video you made, that you use blue windex. Did I catch that right? Any discoloration issues after the caulk has dried? And for this windex trick, should I look for a ammonia free (safe for tinted) version? -Thanks!

Does it come with some kind of cap to close and use it later.

Good question! Unfortunately this product does not. You can get a set of multi-use caps from any big box store- but this particular sealant doesn’t come with one.

Is this easier to tool and use than 3.0. I read the 3.0 can be messy

Yes, this stuff is great to tool. A little thick, but really nice to tool after👍

I used the outdoor AMP and it was a disaster. Comes out runny like a syrup so top to bottom only or massive cleanup. I'm installing 9 doggie doors in a pole barn structure. Wherever i tried to cleanup the AMP, it stained the aluminum. I tried mineral spirits, nothing. I may be paying for these dog doors thanks to AMP. Every other caulk i've tried wipes away clean. Not this stuff. After 5 days installed, I pulled it off because I didn't want my name attached to how bad it looked. It was still slimy at contact point and will not come up. Today I'm trying MEK, Acetone , anything I can to fix the damage AMP caused.
