    Unfortunately, there's no way to eliminate the snap back. That's just how planes work. Yaw is really only ever used for taxiing. At least there's no way to fix it that I know.

      Shadowgjh gitgjh Just FYI yaw is used for much more than taxiing, it's how a plane stays coordinated during turns, if you turn without using it you risk slipping or skidding the turn which can be dangerous. Also its used to help account for turning tendencies caused by a rotating prop.
      I dont have this game but I imagine if you slowed the return of the stabilizer to the center position to be smoother, instead of instantly, you would get less of the "snap"

      Ryan gray, exactly. I dont play the game either, but i think if you somehow manage to set it up so if the target gets like 10 or 15 degrees in front of it (when we are talking about it like nine and three o'clock are 90°, 0° exactly at twelve o'clock and so on) it would use the controls more gently, just small course correction. Just like real life pilots and autopilots slowly roll out from the turn.

      Oh the yaw isn’t used for taxiing, only the front wheels, watch real planes it doesnt move. You can remove a lot of the ‘snap back’ by having a bigger tailfin and smaller rotating elevator... kan here uses his whole tail to turn which means when he stops turning the plane is going a different direction then his tail says

      Demotiviert, there's a water mod that allows boats, he doesn't have the water spawned in immediately, you have to place the water in when you start up the map.

    Kan, have a look at PID controlers
    I know it's hard to do that in scrap mechanic but if you make it work, you'll have perfect controls.

    This plane with the same speed is flying as good as ScrapMan, im curious who would win, Him or AI :D
    maybe challenge for multiplayer: Few Players against many AI planes with the same speed :D

    I have an idea for multiplayer Monday!
    Why don't you and everyone else in the Monday crew build different parts of a plane that each can all shoot with turrets and etc.
    and then you spawn a load of these planes and see how long you can last. there could be two different teams of two that compete against each other and see who will last the longest. The vid was great kAN carry on with these itelengatia creations!

    Separate the rudder into 2 piece, a stationary part, and a moving part to solve the snap back.

    if u want particles, load in your creations and after that reload your world. now all creations in your word have particles again.

    A sensor in the front that shuts down the whole construct so if it ever crashes nose first it "dies".

    That 2nd wing is kinda acting like flaps do on a real plane (except they extend the wing chord rather than change the angle of attack). Neat idea.

      real flaps extend the chord and split the wing so the boundary flow doesn't reverse, which you can't simulate here

      Yeah, just saying with how close it was to the wings and the angle it looked like a big set of flaps rather than a second wing. Not really working like flaps, so I guess I misspoke.

    The snap back is not a glitch, but something that happens in real life. The velocity of the plane is slightly behind your heading when turning with yaw so it goes back to where is velocity is.

    You could fix the snapback problem by using amaller wings as a rudder behind the tailfin. For exampe: mm dogfight planes

    the "snapback" is due to momentum still in the direction u were facing before turning, and that creates resistance perpendicular to the tail wing and pushes it back

    to get rid of the "snap back", make the rudder have a fixed part that doesn't turn in front of the turning part.

    I made a cardboard plane based on kAN's original test plane, and I find the electric-engine driven pitch control much easier and more consistent to use than anything controller-based.
    I also made a plane with a camera-controlled tail gunner position (but it's not cardboard).
    So this would be an interesting experiment with a tail gunner to see if they can take out the pursuing AI planes.

    you can use 3 ai blockes to chack if the player is far to the right/left or not that far and with that adjust the amount of force needed to turn

    to prevent the snapback. add a static verticle fin, just like in real planes where only a part of the tail fin turns not the whole fin.

    I just wanna say snap back is natural and yaw is used always in air combat so it doesnt matter if the yaw in this video looks unrealistic

    the snapback effect is just newton's third law in action. the tailfin is moving so fast it piushes the plane the other way.

    I think you should put the turning back wing on its edge and not on the middle. That might fix the snapback

    Use suspension glitches for flight controls. Works like a charm. I use it in my planes

    The snapback effect is the way aerodynamics work with yaw if you want to know how wings and back stabilizers (aka vertical and horizontal wings or yaw and pitch) then use simpleplanes and yaw when used its going to always snapback but yaw is not use on it's own unless its a helicopter , in a plane yaw and roll together is used for drifting turns when pitch and roll is not precise enough I don't have the degree of an aeronautical engineer but simpleplanes has taught me how aerodynamics work.

    Umm kan that's how planes work that's why you dont use rudder for turning unless it's a minor adjustment

      You would usually see pilots using rudder in the air only if they are landing or taking off in a major tail wind

    You should use rolling for steering, which eliminates the snapback, and to roll back you should set the wings on a slight angle (so it looks a bit like a V from the front and back)

    For the past few hours, I've been thinking about how to wire up some logic for a mostly functional Kestrel from FTL: Faster Than Light. If I send you some diagrams, do you think you could build it? I neither have the game, nor a functional computer at the moment, so I'd be quite happy if you want to give it a shot. I currently know how the doors sub-system and weapons system will work, including player proximity sensors for automatic doors, as well as manual overrides from the door control room.

    Make the Hoth scene from star wars 5 where you need to defend the base from walkers and enemy troops, you also have the snow speeder ships so you can fly and take down walkers but they shoot you so you gotta be careful!

    Is it possible that the snapback effect is coming from the torque when the bearing rotates the rudder? So if you add another bearing somewhere that rotates a block of the same weight as the rudder in the opposite direction to the rudder it'll cancel out the torque. Maybe?

    Yeah but also make a AI plane that flies itself and you can sit in the back and shoot with a turret
    So you are a back gunner.
    I d download it just to try to shoot the others without anyone complaining about my flying "skills"(I have literally not clean yet)

    kAN, you remember your old cruise control car? Well that required multiple engines because you couldn’t remotely change the power of them. But with the electromagnet mod, you can change the power remotely. So can you make an electromagnetic cruise control car?

    3:50 Incorrect. On a real plane you would roll and yaw at the same time while lightly pitching up but only so you don't lose altitude.
    Doing this in scrap mechanic would require n extreme amount of logic, controllers, bearings, and precision. this is much easier for a human.

    So what happens when you put a static small flap in front of the tail or behind.
    Don't have the game and ik that ... Not really wind physics but was thinking that they usually would increase the flat tail surface to adjust drag and rigid flight or add two tail pieces?
    Honestly I'm not a sure what will happen but I'm curious. How far will the wing physics take.?

    If you want to add explosive to your misile in the next update ur gona have to fix the missile raming the groud else they will explode caus they hit the ground
    So you should try and fix that problem

    um, im like... 3 years and 2 months late... but... i think your thrusters don't have particles because the settings got changed in your options menu... there's a drop down menu for particle quality... if you go to video settings.

    can you make the real ai planes roll 25-30 degrees the direction of the turn while turning like real planes?
    That would fix the snapback.
