I finally got around to trying this method and it worked! It took a few times but I think I have it now. It's way easier on the Avid Control then using the Econ software on my Mac. Thanks!
Thanks for a great video. I have the S1 and layouts is great to work with. But I have a problem: the layouts I have made in a session, stays in every other session i open. Like a kind of global setting. What have I missed? Regarda from Denmark
Hey. Thanks for watching. This is a common issue and most likely nothing you did wrong. Open a brand new session and open EuControl and check the layouts tab. If there are no layouts, (expected) its likely just the button labels that are stuck. In Eucontrol, clear out the S1 button softkey assignments and reprogram them for layouts. Hopefully that will do the trick.
Hi, thank you for the video. A year ago i was able to create 1.ALL tracks and 2. BUSes layouts directly in EuControl (no Avid Control needed). I added this tu the first two colored soft keys...This way i was able to switch between all tracks and buses in every project without programing. Now after some software updates it wont work like before. Is this function gone? Or i missing something? Thank you for your help
Hi Jozef. Thanks for checking out my video. You can definitely still create layouts using just EuControl on the "Assign" tab. Remember, layouts are tied to sessions. So creating a layout in one session will not carry over to a different session. However, you can import and export layouts in EuControl on the "Layouts" tab. That might accomplish what you're looking for. Try exporting your layouts from a working session and then import them into a different session. The track names will need to match though. Let me know how it goes.
Awesome. Glad I could help out! You may want to look into folder tracks. Having started with layouts, I feel folder tracks are a little bit more flexible and require less upkeep than layouts (just move tracks in and out, ECT). I've converted all my Busses to routing folders. I saved my folder structure as a track template. Recalling the track template restores ALL of my folders. Just something to tinker with in your free time. 🙂
Thanks for the great videos. I just got my S1 and i'm having trouble figuring out how to navigate back after opening routing folders. Sometimes double tapping the channel's select button works for this but sometimes it doesn't . Please can you help with this? Thanks
Hey, Andy, thanks for checking out my vids... Are you doing a folder spill (double tapping the SEL button) ? If you're doing a folder spill, the Folder track should populate the 8th channel on the S1. Are you seeing that? If double tapping the SEL button on the folder track is not doing it then you can try holding the surface Shift button, top left, and pressing the first button down on the lower left. (Also Shift, but different). That should bring you to the default layout (provided you have not made custom layouts) which should set all the channels to auto- assigned. Additionally you can try pressing both Nudge buttons are the same time. That should close the folder spill too.
@@anthonyanzalone Spoke too soon. I don't know what I did but I can't close the Drums folder now no matter what I try. Even double clicking on the pro tools folder icon doesn't close it.
@@andywickett22 there are two things that can possibly be happening here. 1. You're doing a folder spill by double tapping the SEL button on the S1 (what I was talking about previously), or you're Opening and Closing the folders from within Pro Tools or using the folder soft keys. If you're toggling the folder open and closed then on your keyboard try SHIFT + F (I think that's the keyboard shortcut for opening and closing folders) You can tell the difference because when you open and close a folder in Pro Tools the tracks will collapse down and you will only see the folder track.
Hey! Quick question How does this work with multiple s1’s? Can you have more than 8 (lets say 10) tracks in a layout? So Layout 1 = all Layout 2 = 12 drum tracks Layout 3 = 2 bass tracks etc Thanks in advance!
Thanks for checking out the video. So Ya, if you have multiple S1's you'll be able to create layouts with more channels. So if you have 2 S1's then you can have up to 16 channels in a layout and so on.... Hope that helps.
At the current time, no. You're bound by the amount of channels/faders. That could change in the future. For instance. Their flagship S6 is not bound by channel count. You can bank through larger layouts. So, who knows. 👍
@@antslivesound aaah i see I suppose vca/folder spill lets you bank through channels? Since you are spilling all tracks grouped to a vca fader? I have well get having multiple tracks on an 8 channel surface update Will you make more videos that go in depth on the s1 and dock?
An iPad is all you need to do many things. I always advocate for trying Avid Control first before buying any control surface. It's free and may very well suit your needs. At a later point, if you feel like you want some more tactile control, then you can figure out if you really want the transport controls, or simply more faders.
Hi. Thank you for great video. Is there any way to sync layout from S1 to DAW sw? Layout is fine, but Nuendo (in my case) show all channels (like your PT). Thanks.
Hi Pierre, thanks for watching. I know what you're looking for but layouts are for the control surface only. I'm not sure about Nuendo, but in PT there is a way of grouping tracks, then you can show/hide the tracks on the screen based on the group. PT also has folder tracks, which can be collapsed and opened to show/hide it's member tracks on the screen. I hope maybe these concepts can help you in Nuendo.
@@antslivesound Thanks for your reply. I arrange some macros in my Metagrid Pro app. Now I am able to show/ hide track types and f.e. Drum tracks, Drums with Bass etc. And it works now in arrange window of Nuendo and with my S3s. Avid Control sw does not working this way.
@@antslivesound So I figured out, that Avid Control show/ hide tracks... but only on S1 or Artist mix surfaces (which I have). Not on daw (PT, Nuendo)... Or I missed something?

Don't know if you can help me my iPad and fire hd is connected to protool but not showing and ipad or fire hd
This is great. What I noticed is that you barely touched the hardware excepting the iPad.
Yep, part of the goal was to build the layouts with Avid Control, as opposed to using EuControl. I feel it's much easier.
for some reason i dont have the assign button, cant seem to figure out why!
Hmm, do you have your control surface connected, and is it visible and allocated in EuControl?
