    Are you having trouble drawing smooth lines in Procreate? In today's video, I walk you through the different techniques I use, my canvas and brush settings, as well as some exercises you can do to draw smoother lines!
    *EDIT: The brush featured in this video was something I originally found on the forums that I have since stopped using after making my own brushes from scratch (which is what is in the brush pack for sale in the video description.) I know the original poster had pulled the download file for that brush (not sure if it was ever reposted.) I also had made so many adjustments to that one that people didn’t realize they would have to do the same and it caused a lot of confusion. My cartoon brush pack features all the brushes I currently use with all of the settings already fine tuned and ready to go (there is one in there similar to the one in this video but is actually so much better.) Hope this helps!

    When I was a growing up in the 50’s I was never able to hold my pencil the proper way like you and others that I’ve been observing. And I remember being taught the correct way to use my arm like you mentioned. For some reason none of the correct techniques felt comfortable for me. I wonder if there are others with this issue like me. I was never able to draw. I think it might be to late for me. I’m fascinated by people’s ability to draw because I’ve always wanted to. I also think artists have an ability to see things differently. Anyway I enjoy watching your talent.

      linda1541 drawing is a craft like most things. Just as a person learns to lay bricks, bake a cake, or learn a variety of things, drawing is the same. Just constant practice and learning. You will develop a style and be just as good as anyone with an imagination

      No this isn't true! I've NEVER held my pencil properly. I still hold it weird! The best thing to practice is to be really confident in your brush/pencil strokes.

    • @darshia33
      @darshia33 4 года назад +1

      Alice absolutely. knowing which stroke direction is your strongest is the best way to do drawings. A lot of artist constantly turn the page in a way that they can use their favorite stroke direction

    This video saved my sanity. I just started digital art after years of traditional, and not being able to make the marks I wanted to on my iPad had me wondering if I had forgotten how to draw. 😆
    I was about to give up. I knew there had to be a simple way to adjust something or the other, but I had no idea where to look and what to adjust.
    Thanks a lot man.

    I haven’t even finished the video, but I’ve already learned so much about brush settings! I didn’t even know I was looking to adjust maximum size, but I absolutely was and I’m so happy I fixed it. Coloring will be so much faster. :D I’m sure I’ll learn about inking, too.

    ive tried to make clean line drawings but when i zoom into the lines they end up being jagged, so can you make a video on how to make one of your brushes for clean line art

    • @BeeJayDeL
      @BeeJayDeL  4 года назад +38

      It is probably going have less to do with the brush and more with your canvas size. I usually use a 4500x5400 canvas....if you use a small canvas, your lines will look jagged when zooming.

    Serious question that might come across wrong: does this not hinder your growth as an artist? Wouldn't it be more efficient to just practice your line work until you are good at it? What I mean is if you have an ai constantly fixing your mistakes then you can never learn from your mistakes. Apologies if that sounds rude, I'm just curious about the impact it has.

    • @BeeJayDeL
      @BeeJayDeL  3 года назад

      No…I’m pretty good at my line work traditional or digital…no app is going to do the work for you without an initial amount of talent. Feel free to compare your work.

    I was getting so irritated about the side of my hand getting caught on the screen, and you explained it perfectly.

      That was a brush that was something I originally found on the forums that I have since stopped using after making my own brushes from scratch (which is what is in the brush pack for sale in the video description.) I know the original poster had pulled the download file for that brush (not sure if it was ever reposted.) I also had made so many adjustments to that one that people didn’t realize they would have to do the same and it caused a lot of confusion. My cartoon brush pack features all the brushes I currently use with all of the settings already fine tuned and ready to go (there is one in there similar to the one in this video but is actually so much better.) Hope this helps!

    So I have a bad ass drawing I’ve already done of Wednesday, I used the Baskerville brush, but it’s very pixelated line work, is there anyway within procreate to smooth the lines after it’s done?

    Great video. Thanks much. Cannot download the brush. Message is that software caused an abort. I have second gen ipad pro and Procreate so not sure why.

    What is your advice for someone who is using another iPad which obviously does not allow for Apple Pencil?

    • @BeeJayDeL

      Honestly, it is going to be hard to do a lot of the stuff I do in these videos without an Apple Pencil. The pressure sensitivity is how I achieve the look and feel of most of these lines. I would really try and upgrade to one that allows for the pencil. Not sure if you saw my other "What iPad Should You Buy For Art" video, but I break down the differences and buying recommendations in there.
