Absolutely love this documentary, I'm incredibly honored to have been a part of it.
We had so much fun filming that day, thank you for inviting me to a site I wouldn't have otherwise seen.
To think, many years ago I found your youtube channel and documentaries and left you comments, to have eventually met you while I create videos of my own now.
What a journey it's been Curtis, you have a very bright future and I can't wait to see more documentaries of yours😊
Aww Kayleigh, it was great to finally hang out in person. And thanks for being part. I love your channel too! ❤️
Wow! This film is absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much for making it and posting it here on RUclips. It’s so good to learn about the less famous figures from Ancient Egypt, and see the beautiful artefacts and structures they left behind. Absolutely wonderful!
Aw thank you! I worked on this film for 3 years!!
The baby crocodile listening to you talk about mummified baby crocodiles: 👁️👄👁️
🤣🤣🤣 I never thought of that
@@CurtisRyanWoodsideI had feeling that baby aligator felt good in your arms and went to check if anybody else noticed it, you defenitely connected with crocodile god
edit: omg, I didn't come to baby crocodile yet when I wrote the comment, that one too became so calm 😅🥰
@drunaisis9797 hahah the babies are so cute
Oh my Gosh!!!! Schools canceled and a new video from Curtis! Blessings do abound!
Haha but school is still important!
gosh this is great. i would love it if you did a documentary about the late predynastic and early pharaonic period of egypt
Ooooo maybe
Just wow. Hope this channel gets massive. Not only is the content amazing, but the video and photo footage actually matches what you’re talking about. All around perfect.
Wow, thank you! And I’m glad you noticed that. I always try and use visuals that are what I’m speaking about or at least from the same time period
Wonderful film, such fantastic research on Sobekneferu🙏🏼✨💖
3 long years of work in this!
What a great addition, I enjoyed the time given to the Crocodile expert's intuitive ideas within the documentary. 10/10
Glad you enjoyed it Dale!
Absolutely fantastic, enthralling. One hour and 20 mins of pure indulgent escapism. Loved it. ❤
Absolutely! It’s a long one haha
This was truly a treasure! What I enjoyed most was the rare and beautiful artifacts from that time period. Many I’ve never seen before on other documentaries! Again, great job on creating and narrating this piece!
Yay I am so glad you saw “new” things Kimberly
Thank you very much, Curtis! Your documentaries are super- interesting and of high quality, and this is one of the best. 👏
Awww that means a lot to hear Claudia! ❤️

@@CurtisRyanWoodside Very much a lady. And a great instructor.
Another amazing and informative documentary ❤❤❤❤❤Was wondering why all pieces related to her are so scattered? Wouldn’t it be nice if these pieces were all reunited? Thanks for all your hard work and dedication 😍😘
Oh that would be wonderful to have all her items back together 😱
Always know it’s going to be a good night when there’s a new CRW video out! Thank you, kind sir! ❤
Ah thanks Kristy

Excellent! I like your Egypt docs, they're off the beaten path. Nobody ever does the middle kingdom, wish the camera had lingered a little longer on the artefacts, the more unusual pieces ...they're really extraordinary.

I truly believe I gained a greater insight for not just of Sobekneferu. The attention and care of passing on the study and knowledge…lol I have gained more information that could rival National Geographic’s modes.
Cheers and much gratitude!
Why thank you! This documentary took over 3 years to research and film. So I hope it revealed new info on Sobekneferu and her time ❤️

I love this channel. Always learning about those important people that no one else teaches about. You're way more brave than me. I would be terrified to get that close to a croc!!

I was really impressed by your flawless work. Immersive and captivating this offered a window in time. Also really enjoyed your exploration of the archetypal and the real crocodile.
😇 thanks so much Christina!
I was scrolling through your videos and when I saw the thumbnail I was surprised to see that you used a photo of the reconstruction/repair of the small Sobekneferu statue that I made! It made me really happy to see it being used in a documentary about her! Thank you 🙂
Hiiii oh wow you made that 3d image? I hade no idea. I found it on a data base of 3D files! I also saw it on Etsy and have been meaning to buy a 3D printed copy to had her in my collection ❤️
Yes, it's my shop. I got the replica (took 1 year to arrive) and then repaired it. It's my passion, I take the 3D scan of the original or replica and repair it the best I can. I really enjoy your videos, so it was a nice surprise!
Fantastic
Shukran!
Excellent presentation
Thank you Kay!
Curtis, this was an absolutely stunning and fascinating production about Sobekneferu. I can't imagine the amount of time and research that goes into your documentaries.
Egyptian art and architecture has always stood out to me as just so stunningly beautiful and unique. Their craftspeople were skilled beyond belief and I only wish that I could travel through time, to experience even just a few minutes of that grandeur. 💗
Imagine if we could go back to see them!? Thank you so much for your comment, this took around 3 years to make.
@@CurtisRyanWoodside I admire your knowledge and dedication so much. Only true passion can produce such excellence.
I'm also constantly blown away that you often sit down to chat with Zahi Hawass. He clearly respects your work a great deal and deservedly so! 💗
Zahi is an amazing man and has been very supportive from my first ever documentary. 😇
@@CurtisRyanWoodside He really is and so are you.
His excitement and passion for Egyptology is so inspiring and it's kind of surreal to think that this history is literally his history, his country and his people. That is mind boggling to me.
And he LOVES the history with his whole heart
Wow just WOW! What a story and i am very impressed and captivated by you're work. Going into such details that i never herd of. Lol you're very courageous to get so close to those huge very real crocodiles .
Nice Curtis, you must be a genius to be able to pronounce these names and cities.thank you for making it interesting.🎉 Happy New year 🎉😊
Hhha thanks! I try my best
Once again ,another awesome documentary by you. Just L❤ve it ! Can’t wait to see what else you do in the future . Keep up the great work you do. It inspires so many of us Egyptophiles😆

Another great video Curtis. This is a fascinating subject and one that is little known in comparison to Tutankhamun Ramesses or Akhenaten. Your apprehension to hold the baby alligator had me cracking up. 😂🇨🇦
😂🐊 he was a cutey!!! Thank you Jean ❤️❤️
I have the book, wonderful story. Cheers Rosemary Western Australia 73yrs
Oh great! What book is that?
@CurtisRyanWoodside I just checked my book case, and I can't find the one I've mentioned. I had to give away quite a few very expensive hard backs to the library. I needed more room. For the life of me, I don't even remember the author or title. I do recall reading this over 40 years ago, I do remember the female queen who worshipped the crocodile. The queen would go regularly in a boat and feed the crocodiles to pay homage, but that's about all I can remember. I apologise if I gave the wrong impression. I know you have an immense amount of knowledge, so would know everything written about the queen. I do love your journeys, I hope you continue far into the future. Cheers Rosemary
I haven’t heard that story, but it sure does sound like sobekneferu would do something like that!
@@CurtisRyanWoodside I will attempt to find it at the library. I'm sure it would have been kept as it was in perfect condition. If I do locate it, I'll let you know 😁
Curtis a very informative documentary of an end of a period in Egyptian history
Thanks David!
Wonderful that you traveled the World to pull the elements of Sobel’s life. It seems that most of the remnants of Female Rulers lives are destroyed and scattered so they can be ignored by His-Story. Thank you for HerStory.
She deserved to have her story told ❤️
that was so interesting about the sisters. also I loved the crocodile dude. Curtis can jump quite fast lol.
Hhah those crocodiles were worse than you saw on camera. Roann did a great job!
Excellent presentation of a now recognized woman who became a Pharaoh.
Cool 👌
🐊
Bellissimo complimenti Curtis😃
😇
Well, is it a goose or a duck @52:40?? Can’t believe he just leaves that unanswered. Unbelievable.
6:52 That statue is spectacular
Fascinating lesson as usual Curtis glad I waited for a time so I could be rested and have apt attention. Crocs are cute when they are little but scary when they are adults. I have to wonder if they ate them as well the pharaohs and princesses. Or did they use them as just pets or implements of power. Also always amazed how all of this is preserved from further deterioration. Great guest speakers as well :) Amazing stuff :) thank you :)
I don't know if there is evidence of them eating them, but they did use them for medicinal purposes.
At 26:11 is shown a necklace featuring the throne name of Senusret (Sesostris' Egyptian name), Kheper Ka Ra. The Ka is difficult to discern.
Timeless Documentation, given the hasty nature of historical finds and even more harpazad audience nowadays I am grateful to find this. Wish tourism industry could keep clear and let Egyptologists do the Tours because we're being robbed of genuine staff that makes sense, always been shown Giza pyramids and camels that never were in any hydrographic lit. 5/5; Ratings !👌
Hold it! Kayleigh, you said the sand originally at the bottom of the obelisk of Sesostris I in Heliopolis protected the hieroglyphs there. However, the hieros at the top of the obelisk are more deeply etched and were obviously more protected than the ones at the bottom of the obelisk. Perhaps you could explain this?
I am so fascinated by the holy faiyum the domain of lord Sobek
You’re in luck then, I have a whole documentary titled wonders of fayoum!
@@CurtisRyanWoodside Ik and I love it

I do, and I don’t haha
interesting. had the found her thomb? when you see zahi can you says greetings from me! was the chamber of the sphinx above exlored?
I shall! You will have to keep watching to see about her tomb in the documentary 😇❤️
@@CurtisRyanWoodside nice. which queens, princesses or pharaohs had the not found? was cleopatra a priestess of hathr and athena too?
Cleo would have worshipped Hathor rather. There are many kings and queens we haven’t found yet… sobekneferu being one of those
@@CurtisRyanWoodside can you read good hieroglyps?
@@CurtisRyanWoodside maybe its a wal carving from her on a wall
I wrote a novel set in Ancient Egypt, culminating in the rise to power of SobekNeferu.
Oh wow! Really? 😱
@CurtisRyanWoodside It's a wonderful story of a soldier and princess who defy the odds and break precedence to usher in a new era.
What is the title
@@CurtisRyanWoodside The Mark of the Bow.
Will look it up for sure!
Enjoyed the programme. Heres hoping that more evidence of her existance is discovered in the near future.
Oh I wish that too !
Had not heard of this lady before but she got me thinking of other female rulers in history (other than the Egyptian ones!) Semiramis in Assyria/Babylon though she is semi legendary. Then empress Wu in China and also the female empresses (in their own right in the Byzantine empire aka Eastern Roman empire) like Pulcheria, Irene and Zoe. Zenobia in Palmyra and in western Europe Urraca in medieval Spain, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and in England Mary Tudor, daughter of Henry VIII first female ruler of England )If we except the empress Mathilda) Mary of course was followed by Elizabeth the First -one of Britain's greatest. There were female rulers in Poland who took the title of king. Catherine the First and Catherine the Great in Russia and Maria Theresa whose accession to the Habsburg throne in Austria triggered the War of the Austrian Succession but she held on to her title despite. Queen Victoria who defined the nineteenth century and finally Elizabeth the Second.
Curtis you are a braver man than I am with the crocodiles 🐊
Ahahah consider that it was not planned to get that close!
Excellent documentary!
All facts, no bells and whistles and very informative.
Professor Joanne Fletcher could learn a lot from this channel, namely, tell the truth and don't use theatrics to make your point!

I have just one question: how many busts of Nefertiti is in that museum? Because the first scene was the iconic one with the pupil missing, then the next the same bust has both pupils.

🐊
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Im only about 15 minutes in and i absolutely love the video.
I want to start by saying i do not romanticise ancient civilizations. I recognize that only elite benefited and everyone else was a slave more or less.
Thar said, I've been learning about the ancient greek culture and their use of medicine. It was rarher advanced. To treat snake bites they needed antidotes for example, a common problem. The way it was done constitutes the ancient rites and mysteries which involve children. The children would be administered daily doses of venoms and medicines. Their body fluids would become the cure. This is just one example of the various rites that existed.
I have come to wonder, did they also knowingly or unknowingly discover stem cells? They worked with infants and fetuses. Its not hard to get bone marrow. I wonder if they mixed the two? They were known for making pastes using herbs and animal parts so why not?
Why i bring this up is ive wondered if Sobek was such a hybrid. Was he the result of crocadile bone marrow fused with a fetus resulting in some augmented human? Was this how gods were "engineered"?
Top notch docu! 🐊 But dear Curtis west Berlin does not exist anymore its just Berlin 😉

Good work, as you always do, but at around 29:40, the explanation of Hawass makes no sense at all, as most of what he says... So glad you were in Kylie, who I follow religiously since her RUclipsr beginnings. She's GREAT, especially in Pantheologycal matters...Lucky Strike for both of you!
PS: I always make mistakes with her convoluted (for me) name: She is Kayleigh! Sorry, my bad...
2nd & 3d Post Scriptum: very funny comment about the statue hips at around 51:00. I love this kind of humor.
